Every race makes it clearer that it's Alonso who is winning the WDC. Still this "last race" mentality keeps suggesting otherwise. It's pure bollocks.

At least the WCC prediction is cooling down already as the season draws to an end.

After Italy it's (again) all over folks! Lewis takes the WDC home this year! This time we even have some changes in the top of the WCC as well! Bye Bye RBR! Now how about this Italian trend?

In the other news it's good to see that Felipe will probably get to keep his seat as he is moving Ferrari up in the WCC, but still it's still in the air as Sergio is the same with Sauber!!!

The Belgian trend sees Jenson dominating the Championship (congrats!) and also interestingly Michael winning vs NicoR!!! So the come back was worth while after all!!!

Big movers in the midfield (NicoH will finish in front of Lewis), but for some reason the WDC changes do not carry forward to change the WCC standings much. Probably because of no two team mates scoring big in Spa.

You are mistaken; Grosjean came third today.

Yeah, that's why I put him up to a total of 211 points (76+15*9) for the end of the season ranking. But I'm sure there may be errors in the list.

The formula I used is in the Original Post. So total points so far + points from latest race * number of remaining races.

So for Fernando: 164+10*9=254.

Doesn't the Castrol Edge Ranking thing try to do something like that? But also takes in qualifying performance, fastest laps, overtakes and all that jazz.

You can't predict lottery. Look at Sauber: almost best car in Germany and nowhere in Hungary.

If Massa was semi-decent this season, Ferrari would be 2nd - they're only 3 points behind McLaren. If Massa was decent, they'd be first in WCC.

Felipe is climbing and climbing and climbing! He will finish the WDC only two places behind Fernando, as it seems. Amazing - how much better he is than the whole season seemed to tell us.

Michael Schumacher in 15th is worse than I thought - I had him down as 12th or 11th... :eek:

Surely the Brazillian trend will decide this.

The funny thing about the little formula I'm using is that the Brazilian trend really will decide this ;-)

It would be interesting to also have a little wider prediction window - say the last 3 races.

Do you mean Current Points + (Points from Last Three Races / 3) * Number of Remaining Races?

Yes. (Obviously, if there were just 1 or 2 races in a new season you take the average of those.)

Maybe I could do that next season. Maybe last 4 races would be more representative than just 3, while still being quite rapid to accumulate.

This season I invented this thread at the half-way point after 10 races and I'm using just the last race to do the prognosis. And I did it to prove to myself that the concept is flawed :-)

As the season comes to its end, your prediction thread closes in on the actual reality. By the last race you will have reached absolute accuracy!! Not bad for any prediction system. ;-)

Typo in the Lotus points, should be 338.

Looks like it's going to stay open on quite a few places to the very end. In constructors, Sauber is very close to Mercedes, Williams could still challenge Force India and even Lotus still has an off-chance of reaching McLaren.

In the drivers side, I don't know if the order behind the top 2 really matters much, but quite a few changes are possible there anyway.

EDIT: Haha, I had an error in my Excel sheet (no surprise there) and all the formulas give Vettel on top 40-60% of the time. So not so interesting after all.

Only the one considering the fifteen last races give Vettel on top 80% of the time ;-)
