My name is Adrian ward, I have just completed what maybe the smallest aero engined special in the vscc a chaterlea cyclecar with a blackburne tomtit v twin aero engine

Pics here http://rides.webshot...IQC?vhost=rides

So now my next project is a recreation of the jappic cyclecar , this car was the holder of a number of j class up to 350 cc records in the late 20's early 30's ,

I have spent an interesting day at the vscc library to try to find some contemporary information rather than the rehashed descriptions from wiki and later books , I was lucky to find some detail pics that I hadn't seen

Research here http://www.flickr.co...s/55288722@N00/

So I have spent a few weeks drawing and I have now starting to build the chassis

Build pics here http://www.flickr.co...s/55288722@N00/

However it's not that easy I am still looking for the correct engine a 1926 350 jap ohv twin port engine with a forward facing mag drive , or something close, and a sturmey archer CS top mount gearbox

I would love to hear anything of the cars later life, and what happened to it , as it would be great to find some original parts

Cheers Adrian

Did you know that the Jappic was used for record breaking at Montlhery by Gwenda Stewart and Douglas Hawkes in the late 1920s. It was renamed the HS Special, (presumably for Hawkes-Stewart) and was sadly lost in a fire during 1932 when the sheds under the Montlhery banking caught fire?
Best of luck with the project.

There is an interesting newsreel of the jappic containing some good detail shots, and to see how small the car was,

I will try to find what records it broke in France

It would be great to find some of the original car

Had a rear axle and hubs made To match the front hubs I have

Seat made and I have started on the pedals ,

due to the cold weather and it seems my workshop is 2 deg below ambiant its been quiet in there, but it has meant that most drawings are done and delivered to the water jet cutting man, so should be collecting a box of parts on monday,

been juggling with engine postion and pedals as its all very tight in the bowels of the car, as it was built for record breaking ,slowing down was not very important , but having only a hand brake next to the gear lever may make it enteretaining trying to change gear and brake at pardon

so currently i am trying to get both the clutch and brake pedal in the footwell
