Bernie will probably say "ah, but it's better for UK and European viewers. Same goes for why he wants to make Australia a night race. Thing is, alot of people enjoy races at silly o'clock European time. Plus we have 1 full night race and 3 sort of dusk/night races already. It's not interesting or exciting having more night races. 1 night race might seem different or exciting, but having numerous dusk/night races just makes them seem...........ordinary and nothing to get excited about. Is Bernie going to increase the number of races on the calendar? Because aren't there meant to be 2-3 new races in 2014? He can't get rid of every European race bar the classics surely. Then again, with Bernie, it's all about the money, nothing else matters to him.

If the market Bernie wants to cater to is in Europe, then host the races in Europe.

If it is a global series, then behave as if it is a global series. All F1 races should be run at either 01:00PM or 02:00PM local time, and the rest of the world should set their alarm clocks accordingly. As someone posted in the Singapore thread, the fact that we are in Singapore is completely lost, by it being a night race, it could be anywhere in the world.

Bernie was once the man making F1 what it is today, but his past success have faded and for the past few years he have done nothing good for the sport, and arguably is dumbing down a superior product into something less appealing.

Moron that I am, I will continue to watch regardless of ever increasing poor management.

They are aiming for a night race on a street circuit with a marina section so its great to see they are full of original ideas for the design of the track. Can't we just have Imola or the Red Bull Ring back please?

Nobody cares about all that. European broadcasters get 5 times more viewership for races broadcast at "normal" times than they do for races broadcast at 4 am. So they pay more for them. So Bernie needs to cover that demand. And since Europe doesn't have the money to host races and F1 is moving eastwards then you can expect more night races.

Let's first see what the track lay-out will be.
Bangkok is not a bad place for a race me thinks.
Also Thailand with the Red Bull links makes sense
Anyway happy it will be a night race

Would be interesting to see which venue it will replace.
So in 2014 races in Sochi and Bangkok

This time of the month already? But haven't we had a Thai Grand Prix rumour this year, Bernie could of thought of somewhere new. Almost certainly not going to happen.

Actually I believe that a Red Bull Grand Prix on their own circuit could be fairly likely in the near future. Just depends on getting the track up to scratch.

Do people in South East Asia has no original idea on how to promote their country? We already has Malaysia and Singapore GP. There also has be rumour about Indonesia want to host GP as well. Do they know there is a lot more sport that can promote their country? How about hosting a motoGP or WSBK for example.

Has also produced a Grand Prix winner, incidentally.

But I'm not sure about this. Did someone ask Bernie about where he would like a future GP and someone misheard it as "Phuket"?

If true, another country ripped off by Bernie, another government funded race that's meant to lose people's money that's better spent for sth else.

Thailand is indeed a big base of car manufacturing in Asia, but I'm not sure F1 is a good idea there.

And I have no idea where in that vastly over-populated city they can host GP. Maybe they can develop industrial bay areas, I dont know, but then it will not have Bangkok feel at all (unlike Singapore that still retains Singapore feeling alot), but most likely will be like either Valencia or Yeongam.

Indonesia wants to host Moto GP in Bali, which makes sense given how bike mad they are there.

Haven't heard any murmurs about F1.

We have enough street circuits!!! FFS I don't see why we need more. The only ones I enjoy are Canada and Aus, Singapore isn't that bad but I wouldn't miss it, and as for Monaco I really am not a fan. I don't see why people are so blindly loyal, I can see why drivers would enjoy the challenge but as a race it is poor.

Apparently Ecclestone is a huge fan of took-took racing.

First he took Turkey off the calendar, then took forever to get rid of Valencia :p

I was about to disagree but this season is 1/4 street circuits.

Honestly I don't really think of Can and Aus as street circuits, I know they are, but neither really feel like one.

Oh no

Street tracks bore me. i could live with Monaco becasue it used to be a one off and has a lot of history, but unless it is wet it a boring race. Same goes with Singapore. Don't really like where F1 is going to be honest.

I like Singapore as a night race. Like Monaco it is a challenge and it is great to see cars playing dare with barriers. But as far as I'm concerned there should be one night race only, otherwise it loses the attraction. Aside from that, no issue with a race in Thailand.

Bangkok is a fabulous destination and one of the world's premier cities. If they get the circuit layout right, it could be another gem in the schedule.

Face the fact, Asia's influence is steadily growing in the world as it is in F1 - much of the sponsorship money already comes from Asia, and the potential for additional growth in the region is enormous.

I find a well-laid out street circuit a lot more sensible than another multi-billion dollar purpose-built track a la Turkey and Korea, that wastes tremendous resources and could end up bumped off the schedule after a few runs, leaving the facility wasted and idle.

Furthermore, anything that gives us more Asian grid girls, I am completely in favor of!

if the track layout is good, i dont mind another street track, and i dont mind night time or a dusk into night race

theres like 2 races that finish in the dark, and the other 18 odd are daylight. so if it was a daytime race it would be more like 18 other races than 2.

ANOTHER street circuit?! WHY????!!!!

There are no grade 1 circuits in Thailand, and street circuits are cheaper to design and easier to certify to FIA standards due to very low speeds, plus holding the race downtown means Bernie does not have to wait so long as his Limo takes him to a suitable restaurant for dinner? :)

I assume the race will be held in the Phuket area, and the target crowd will be mixture of local "car nerds" and drunken British yobbos?

Sound like a black hole money pit, that will end in bankruptcy for the organizing company to me.

Car culture in the country (and indeed the neighboring region) is 90% about Toyota and Honda, who evidently do not race in F1  . Mercedes sell well to wealthier folks even with tariffs in the three digits 100%+, and I suppose there are a few Ferraris about. I see no benefit to Renault from this race at all, they do not even sell motorcars there.

The stewards will be exhausted, that's for sure...

I believe the average took-took driver does not understand the concept of road "rules". :)

Holding the race in downtown Bangkok sounds like quite possibly the worst idea of all time, surely they cannot be that desperate to copy Singapore  . The road surfaces will make an average Indycar street race look billiard table smooth for one thing...

Valencia and Singapore really are terrible circuits, it's like they have learnt nothing at all since 1985 when the Adelaide Grand Prix debuted with it's simple, elegant and mostly fairly wide track in park surrounds. Singapore is at least a great spectacle though, if not for the racing.

The new pits are basic and only of a domestic racing standard. FOM requirements would not be satisfied, regardless of the FIA kindly restoring the track's Grade 1 certification.

As to why they demolished the old pits before getting full planning approvals for the extended circuit, only DM knows.

Nissan probably sell 1 passenger car to 7-8 Toyota passenger cars though, so I wouldn't say it's a raging success. They are quite good in the commerical vehicle area however.

So ripe for some high profile marketing then - like F1 maybe?

Have they stopped rioting and demonstrating in Krung Theap yet? HArdly been the most stable place in recent years, although after Bahrain I guess that doesn't matter anymore.
