Does anybody have any information on the 1965 Autosport Championship? I am looking for the race venues and results if possible. I'm particularly interested in Dick Crosfield and his Shapecraft Elan.
Thanks,
Mike

CLASS WINNERS = to the competitor scoring the highest number of marks in the class in five races and/or the two hillclimbs an Autosport Trophy
THE CHAMPIONSHIP = to the winner of the final event the Autosport Series-Production Sports Car Championship Trophy.
Furthermore the final was run on a handicap basis, the winning Fitzwilliam/Carnegie MGA receiving 9 credit laps.
As might be guessed, it all prooved rather unsatisfactory and for 1957 it became a more conventional championship !

You need to be careful with this - rather strangely the overall champion was the winner of the final 3 hour race, regardless of points, but the class champions were based on points. The regulations (Autosport 5 Oct 56) say

Thanks RAP - that is very helpful. As you state, not the most satisfactory set of regulations !! I can see why they moved on...

Interesting that the winner was the Fitzwilliam/Carnegie MGA and had 9 credit laps in a 3 hr race. I wonder who did the handicapping. Fitz himself was relatively slow but there was a right ringer there in Robin Carnegie (Earl something or other), he managed to finish 33 in the Mille Miglia in a pushrod MGA.
