How many fans will support Mercedes as Schumacher is not there any more?

I am just wondering how many fans will be supporting Mercedes as Seven times world champion is no more driving for the team.
Personally I started supporting Merc because of schumi & always followed team quite closely - bitterly disappointed though.
Now as schumi is not in team, I am not sure if I will be bothered if they finish 5th or 15th.
I am quite sure lots of Hamilton fans will be supporting it, which is understandable, but my question is for existing merc supporters will they still support the team?
I know there is arguments like in football you should support club irrespective of how they perform or which player plays for them, so you should stick with same team - but I think quite a big chunk of schumi supporters who are not lewis fan might go & support other teams or drivers.
Will be interested to know your views guys.

→ − Schumacher Fans + Hamilton Fans = Net Supporters Gained or Lost.

Here's the scientific formula to determine the net gain/loss of Mercedes supporters.
→ − Schumacher Fans + Hamilton Fans = Net Supporters Gained or Lost.
I will say net supporters probably lost as Schumacher has far more bigger fan following than hamilton

i, like many other watch the SPORT of F1, the technology, the speed. if merc can sort their aero and give their drivers a fighting chance to mix with the big 4, i'll root for them. ATM, i'm supporting LotusF1, but i see no reason to hate any other teams, i still harbor a soft spot for Mclaren, though that soft spot has almost vanished in recent years.
so in short, if anyone leaves Mercedes cause Schumi isn't there anymore, then they should stop watching F1 altogether and play Bingo/Pachinko instead.

I won't be so bitterly disappointed if they do not produce though. And I won't be riding the rollercoaster of hope like I did 2010-2012.

Will take quite a few years or a move to Germany for Mercedes as a team to develop a "soul" of themselves
Hamilton driving next year will generate interest and bring fans/groupies but their interest won't be with the team.
In fact I suspect the team bashing (akin to what happened to Whitmarsh) already to start after the first few bad races.
Only winning (big time) will bring in fans and that I can't see happening very often next year

They will stay around, very quite, but will jump out of the bushes if someone is trying to downplay the achievements of their idol. Some others will go to other threads to argue Schumacher was better than XY because the special circumstances (tires, team mates) helped them to be a the top for a long time even if nobody asked them to do that. Oh wait. that was another driver

My believe is, that W04 will be better, if they will sort out LL of 2012. Drivers will pick up on that hope, and carry the fever forward. Still, Schumi gone, he might work with AMG, who knows, but Ross alone cannot pull me back to get excited about Brackley. My respect for the brand however (road cars) is something else.
I cannot understand why people make a link to the Mercedes road cars. Mercedes is a high end brand and supports a Formula One team with money. But this are two completely different sectors. Red Bull can't produce road cars I guess and Pirelli's tires last longer than 10km. It's childish to say I never buy a Mercedes again because they failed in Formula One. But the marketing crew has to think about if a company like Mercedes can handle midfield team any longer. it is clearly is disadvantage for their image.

You can't blame them for giving him the platform to come back and be as bad as he was.I support only Schumi in the past years. I never liked Mercedes (not just in F1, I don't like the whole brand), and after what they done with Schumi they are on the very bottom in my ranking...

For 2013 I'll be following Merc as a Hamilton fan. Haven't followed a team since the original Lotus team folded. Plus I like Nico. Looking forward to a fresh start.
Same here! I can't wait for next season. I have never had much cause to follow Mercedes but with Lewis at the team I shall have to! It is going to be very exciting!

I think that you understand that Stuttgart is pouring advertising funds into Brackly to promote their brand (road cars), which is my link to that team. Not all people like their road car, and I can understand it, I really do. For me it is the same with Lexus. The car is very, very good, and people love it, yet the design leaves me cold without rational explanation, and I have great respect for Toyota as well. In simple terms, it's like with girls, some get you going, others don't, and life goes on. You are of course right, that results of 2012 got Mers' name being dragged through the mud a lot, but that's the risk they were aware off. What future holds we do not know, but changes of various kind should be expected.I cannot understand why people make a link to the Mercedes road cars. You're obviously expecting Lewis to do a lot better than the pensioner?I'm out. Only followed them for MS. Why else would you follow them? Hamilton will be there now and their fans will now know the feeling of looking down the list and seeing their driver in 7th and 8th and getting excited with the odd top 5 qualifying grid spot!
Which wouldnt be hard I guess.....

I just hope Mercedes money can turn this British team into a winner and with a British driver now in the squad, hopefully that will lift the team to the spirit of the good old days.
Sadly the "good old days" of this team are only in your mind (except for a 100% fluke championship)

I suspect the poster was thinking of the 1930s German Mercedes team ..........
II never realised until recently that drivers for British teams have have won the WDC and WCC more times than all the other participating nations added together (even if you can take a joke and count Red Bull as Austrian).

99.98% of Schumacher fans over the age of 28 were Mansell fans in '92!The Manchester United Syndrome ..........
(the other 0.02% had already started supporting Prost in preparation for '93)

Also, I wonder if there were many BAR/Honda/Brawn fans who might have been turned off by Schumi's presence, and will now like the team more that he's gone?
I think the only certainty is that Lewis will bring over a bunch of fans.

I would keep "supporting" Mercedes if they gave Schumacher the treatment he deserved. But, instead, they were one of the most pathetic things ever in F1 that I have seen from a team with reasonable money.
You can mock Andrea Moda, HRT, Minardi and etc, but they at least were very poor to justify their performance. Mercedes/BAR/Honda(Brackley team) were extremely incompetent and I can't relate to them.

If you only followed the team because Shumacher was there then you weren't really a Merc supporter at all.

The Mercedes team is more like the hapless Jaguar team than the mighty silver arrows of bygone eras, however. Quite a distinction.so in short, if anyone leaves Mercedes cause Schumi isn't there anymore, then they should stop watching F1 altogether and play Bingo/Pachinko instead.
Maybe Monster Energy will buy it and make it a winner in 5 seasons time?

At this point Mercedes is a very generic F1 team, bought and sold a number of times and lacking an identity. They haven't achieved much; what is there to inspire loyalty? All that is to come, perhaps.

He isn't my favorite but I was a fan during his comeback. He seemed so much friendlier and warm the second time around. I found him rather cold and distant the first time. He always had a genuine smile on his face when the camera would show him in the garage. How many Shumi fans were there at the end? A lot fewer than in his heyday, it seemed to me, with the gloryhunters all switched to Sebi. And what about Ferrari? Surely fans who followed MS to Merc are driver fans anyway.
