F1 is the most popular racing series in the world. But not in every country, more and more states have new most favorite racing series:

- Scandinavia: Rallye
- USA: Nascar
- Brazil: Stockcar
- Australia: V8 Supercars
- Japan: GT Racing
- Espania: motorcycle

have you other examples? And why are these racing series more popular than other series?
In USA for example the split of the ChampCar series in 1996 gave Nascar more popularity.
But why is Brazil now more interested in Stock car? They had a very famous F1 history?
And why is Formula Nippon and Formula Racing in Japan downrising?

Austria: Ski, for what I think are obvious reasons. But F1 the next after that, and by far the most popular one involving an engine, nothing else even is mentioned in the general media.

Motorcycle racing pretty popular in South East Asia. They even race underbone/moped there.

I'll actually say rallycross for Scandinavia. Of 78 (or was it 81) European Championships to be won in "real" RX-classes (not counting some of the more obscure ones). 53 has been won by Scandinavian drivers, and 8 by finns. (Finland is not a part of Scandinavia).

I think it was this way because it was cheaper, and more free regulations, while having Martin Schanche made the media go crazy in Norway. Not to say that it was fantastic racing until the "Rallycross Specials"-era started to decline, and the homologations-rules got stricter-

That's not the case at all.
Stock Car barely has TV time (next year 3 races will be broadcasted on free TV) and it doesn't have much value for the main public.
Truth is motorsport is in a downward spiral here in the country.
F1 is by far the most known and followed race series; Formula Truck and local Superbike series are the champions in attendence while Stock Car has the biggest promotion and is the main national championship. But only that.

In most countries, after F1 the national touring car style series is more popular than open wheel. BTCC does very well in the UK, F3 gets more drivers than fans. F3 is a support series to DTM in Germany, etc.

If we're talking about motor sports, F1 is way ahead of everything (bar DTM, maybe) in Germany. MSC and now - though to a far smaller extend - VET did respectively do the job :)

Years ago, back in the days of Walter Röhrl and Audi fighting at the top, Rallye was very popular I guess. So was the old DTM, when it was called Deutsche Tourenwagen-Meisterschaft and more (non German) manufacturer were involved.

Never knew Scandinavia was a country and "states" like Denmark / Finland or Finland / Sweden are all for the rally. But thanks for clearing it out...
