Yes - he is so rubbish that if you rank all the 9 driver pairings who scored points in 2012 as a percentage of the lower placed against their team mate he comes a lowly 3rd in the table with 73%, only beaten by Button (99%) and Kobyashi(91%).
But there again, since when have the facts meant anything to a large number of posters on here

The 'facts' are that certain elements of the media rammed him down our throats constantly as the most incredible new talent F1 had ever seen, a role which he quickly accepted and proceeded to polish his cock at every opportunity. Most people here know deep down he's a decent top 20 driver, but they(we) begrudge having someone foisted upon us as Fangio's nemesis when we can clearly see he's not 'that' special.

How can a man who is an F1 racing driver, who circulates with the rich and famous on a weekly basis, literally lives life in the fast lane ...be so utterly bland ?

I'd say the camera staring him in the face and recording everything he says might have something to do with it.

Some people handle it better than others. I'm sure he's not as dull in real life as he portrays himself on camera. I'd have thought that would be impossible.

Isn't that a definition of Kimi?

Isn't he hired to drive cars quickly? I guess you'd prefer Will Ferrell in the car?

any thoughts on Kamui for 2nd seat?? he can bring 8m i heard. Most importantly, he is fast and consistent.

No..but somebody with a personality would be a step forward - its not even as if Di Resta has proved to be that good on the track. From a commercial/PR point of view a personality is a step in teh right direction - particulalrly if his team is going down the pan as has been suggested.

Sutil can bring more than that, and is (was) quicker than Paul. Koba-san is out, I fear. Bianchi is also quick as you like, and could perhaps come with a discount on Ferrari powerplants in '14....

I guess you must have a better insight into the requirements for drivers abilities, both on and off track, than Mercedes who have supported him for quite a few years.

... in DTM.

Not quite the same thing. Personally I thing he's worthy of his FI seat, but have absolutely no idea why he and the BBC think he deserves a seat at Mac or Ferrari, where apparently he'd obliterate everyone.

And the F3 Euro Series.

As for the ongoing issue of media hype, firstly i'm sure most media hype up a driver from their own country more than is probably justified (since the majority of the demographic will be looking out for home drivers) and secondly the hyping of the hype on these forums has made it sound worse than it was. At the start of 2011 there was a lot no two ways about it but it has calmed down since then, unlike this place!

Everyone can relax and get off their high horses as far a PDiR is concerned for this year as the media will be ignoring him for the much greater 'prospect' who as far as I can recall certainly has a much more impressive CV in the lower formula :rotfl:

Common mistake made by many because of media. Why would Force India run Bianchi to get cheaper Ferrari engines next season? They could just as easily run Bianchi when they actually have got Ferrari engines.

I can't wait to see his beaming, happy face when he talks about this news. I love the guy's enthusiasm and exuberance, it's like having James Hunt back with us.

Oh.

Nurse! My medication!!

I almost laughed my ass off. :rotfl:

That's a common mistake to make. Actually, Latinate Celtic names are given the patronymic 'di', whereas Gaelic Celtic names can take the patronymic Mac, Mc or O' amongst others. Therefore, in the same way that Jermaine Sporran would be a viable name, with the addition of the patronymic it becomes Jermaine McSporran. In the same way, Joe Calzaghe, a Welsh Latinate Celtic name becomes, with the addtion of the patronymic, Joe di Calzaghe.

No need to confuse things by questioning someone's nationality.

Perhaps, but the other way of looking at it is by acknowledging that Di Resta is one of the very many Scots with Italian ancestors.

And who was his team mate who finished 2nd!

Don't also forget he won the F3 Masters

In different circumstances Paul should have beaten Vettel to F1 but he wasn't one of Marko's Golden Boys!

That's partly true, and all the more reason to capitalise once he got there. Trouble is, he started quite well and proceeded to get worse; keeping Sutil very honest to start with, then slipping back, followed by a hiding from Hulkenberg. Had he impressed enough he may well have got that Mac seat, but the reality is that he's done ok, enough to keep a seat, but not enough to make the sort of ripples Vettel did.

His confidence took a knock after the new developments didn't give him the boost they clearly gave NH after Singapore. NH is a seriously impressive pedlar and I still think that the Force India pairing was one of, if not the strongest driver pairings on the grid.

I hope they both do well.

DIR needs to concentrate on moving forward during the race, which I think will be the litmus test on whether he excels or does a Sutil.

It wasn't a hiding, they were very close up until after Singapore then afterwards Pirelli's choice of conservative tyres really hurt Paul with his smooth style and helped Nico and his more aggressive style.

Force India admitted themselves that they failed to react properly when understanding why Paul wasn't able to switch the tyres on.

That is a possibility :)

It's a linguistic anomaly that there's no way to tell by the name.

I think that Di Resta is an ok driver but he isn't as good as the medias wants to show us, he is a good driver for a team in the mid-back of the track.

I hope that the second seat in Force India is going to be for Jules Bianchi, he isna great driver, I saw him in the F3.5 series here in Barcelona and he is an amazing driver. Unfortunately Frijns kick him out of the race :(

Indeed, they've even got their own Wiki page, with di Resta being amongst them.
