The livery is simply sublime. I'm banking on the car being a strong mid-field contender like last year.

does anyone agree with me on this ? the car looks beautiful in still shots and studio pics but in the actual footage on track it doesn't appear anything like that
From what Hulkenber has said, the car will be very competitive in specific tracks like Barcelona, Suzuka and Silverstone. And it looks like it'll be crap again on tracks like Hungary, Singapore and Korea.

Adding a new level of maturity to this forum?Think you'll find he ran out of talent in turn 1 and ruined his own race.
Plus his face is annoying and sense of humour is poor.

can you please say where did he say that?
I'm not doubting you, I just would like to see what more he said about it

C31 was pretty better but C32 is not. On the other hand VJM05 is very competitive and enough to challenge top teams.
And I've never seen the car not starting by mechanical trouble since America 2005.
How many points did Kobayashi lose because of the easy mistakes or poor strategies of this team and does Hulk this year?

Any details on what this vaguely stated "fuel system" problem was?
#116
Posted 17 March 2013 - 17:04
Hopefully the car should be more competitive at Sepang, and Hülkenberg will have some good luck to make up for this weekend. A shame that Force India has already bagged a decent haul of points, but it should be a close fight between these two teams in particular, especially once Gutiérrez gets fully up to speed.

I would guess some sort of a leak, the source of which couldn't be identified in time, as Kaltenborn specified that the withdrawal was made on safety grounds (i.e. fire risk).

Now that Hulkenberg is on board as a highly rated driver, and that they committed a massive screw up here, I hope to see balanced criticism.
About Esteban, hard to tell. He had pace, but only 3 or 4 laps after changing tyres. After his second stop he was losing 4 seconds to Bottas in the first few laps (even lost that position on track), and then eventually he caught up, being much faster than the Williams. Hard to tell what was that about without Nico as reference. Really hope the car doesn't take that long to bring them up to decent temperature.

Apparently there must have even been a crack in the fuel tank (not just a hole), they need to send the chassis back to switzerland and get another one as a reserve to Malaysia.

Hulk racing Melbourne for 3 years already and no laps completed.

Sauber have a good base to improve, and they've got a fantastic driver in Hulkenberg to grab some big points. Gutierrez has fairly low expectations at first and I think the odd points finish should be considered good progress.

Esteban was in route for his 1st point, but they decided to try a 3 stop strategy that involved ~30 laps on a set of mediums instead of covering for Vergne and Bottas. Typical ******** Sauber strategy. He also lost a lot of positions in the start, which didn't help.

He said pre-season that the car was "amazing" if memory serves, in high-speed corners, but that hasn't seemed too evident this weekend. Perhaps the car get's unsettled when there are direction changes in high speed. I mean, one thing is T3 on CdC, quite another is T5-6 on Sepang Int.

Monisha Kaltenborn: "We are happy about this result, because we had an unexpected difficult weekend. However, we were able to improve step by step. We now have a better understanding of those areas in which we have to improve. This will help us to exploit the full potential of the car."
Not many clues after going through the PR filter...

Hmm, tantrum from Hülkenberg! It will feel all the more annoying to him because the Force India has been so fast these two races.

I think it's definitely annoying him but there was definitely something to his comments. Monisha mentioned some sort of trouble but didn't elaborate. Hopefully something will surface as to the issues he was complaining about.

- Why didn't we pit? I though we were planning to. I was pushing for pit again"
- We'll discuss later, we have a different opinion here.
Since they indeed needed the 4th stop, Esteban would be right in that they should have stopped when they had a cushion to Vergné and Bottas. Would have exited behind, but not a big gap plus fresh tyres.

I saw that, hopefully some jurno asks regarding it in next race weekend. I Felt it was not about tyre deg, may be related to stratergy/pit stop calls!!Did anyone catch what/why Hulk was pissed off after the race on the cool down lap?

She's not doing the strategy. Taking into account Sauber's brilliant strategy calls in the past, they obviously leave those decisions up to a coin toss or something.yep, Esteban had 10th assured had he stopped again. My guess on who messed up? Monisha for sure

According to German-language sources Blick (Switzerland) and Auto Motor und Sport (Germany), however, Hulkenberg told his team after crossing the line that the result was “unacceptable”.
“Thank you guys,” he is quoted as having said by radio, “but we have to improve in many areas. This is not acceptable.”
Blick quotes the 25-year-old as adding: “When I go at the speed of Ferrari, Lotus and McLaren, I quickly ruin the tyres.
“Now we have a lot of data and impressions and I hope we can draw the right conclusions.”
Auto Motor und Sport quotes Hulkenberg as saying: “There are still some areas where there are gaps. The car does not fit me like a shoe.”

This.
Seemed like Kobayashi always had the worst strategy during the races he was in. Sauber seems to be generally just shooting in the dark on strategy. Sometimes they nail it, with Checo's brilliant races for example, sometimes they languish back in 17th.

Like a true mediocre team, they always split strategies with the drivers (with the tyre saving one almost always assigned to Perez), seems like they're scared of going with one for both drivers

I haven't payed close enough attention to say if this is definitely true or not, but if it is, I wonder if its just a calculated risk they take for the team's sake? When you're in the midfield and ranging from 6th to 14th or so, points aren't always a 'gimme' in any given race weekend. But if you can ensure that at least ONE driver gets a good finishing position, it could benefit in the long run. For instance:Like a true mediocre team, they always split strategies with the drivers (with the tyre saving one almost always assigned to Perez), seems like they're scared of going with one for both drivers
A single 8th place is better than a 9th and 10th place combined(4 vs 3).
A single 7th place finish is equal to an 8th and 9th place combined(6 vs 6). It is better than an 8th and 10th place finishes(6 vs 5). It is also TWICE as good as a 9th and 10th place finish(6 vs 3).
A single 6th place finish is equal to a 7th and a 9th place finish combined(8 vs 8).
So really, for the team in the midfield, this sort of splitting of strategies might actually make a good bit of sense.

Typical Sauber strategy. Toro Rosso got a P7 too. Freaking disaster. What an absolutely atrocious strategy! I'm sure that Hülkenberg could have beaten Button, or at least finished close behind him, if the team had mirrored his and Vettel's strategy. Instead, he finishes a minute off the lead, losing more points to Force India. Ridiculous!
Hulk still put up a decent fight.
Esteban? Really stupid rookie mistake. Fantastic first couple of laps, from 17 to 11, but what for? Hope Monisha slaps his head into place.

Hulk understood how Kobayashi felt on this team last year.
I've seen same situations for 3 years; too slow pitstops, rubbish strategies and no points.
Hulk shouldn't move to Sauber, it's possible that he is in a same way as Kobayashi - loses his seat in F1.
