Frosted Kellogg's Gr-r-rand Prix
The game, although released in 2002, IIRC was based off the 1997 Formula One season. The graphics and game-play were surprisingly good for its time, especially considering that it came free along with a two-dollar serial box.
Epic game.
Starting to feel nostalgic again, I wish I still had it.
The game is actually called F1 Racing Simulation 2, originally released back in '98. Looks like someone just stamped a few logos on it.
Was a pain to try and catch those slides in simulation mode and frankly I got the feeling that the AI was cheating somehow - couldn't match their laptimes. It even had a pretty good in-built telemetry IIRC.

Yeah, and apparently they were based on real events.
Wikipedia articleThere are eight different modes to race, the new ones being a career mode in which you start with a poor team and must drive well enough to earn competitive rides, and scenarios recreating key races for particular drivers.

Not my first racing game I think, but great multiplayer fun down the pub. It was around the same time as Roadblasters.
I remember Super Sprint but the one I think of for the scuffed elbows was on a similar arcade set-up for Indy Heat... running over your mates pit crew to slow down their pit-stops!

The scenarios were interesting but a couple of things were wrong with the overall game. Two I can remember:
- Career mode. I won a championship in a Stewart in my first year, yet was only offered a Prost for my 2nd, otherwise if I declined their offer I was stuck with Stewart for another year.
- Qualifying if its wet/dry. I had one qualifying session where it was belting down with rain only for it to dry enough for slicks in the last couple of minutes of the session. I went out along with three others on slicks, set a fast time along with the other three and because every else was outside the 107% rule it mean't only 4 starters for the race.

Videogames.. hmmm i remember pit stop 2 on the C64. But the game I consider my first was Indy 500 from Papyrus (steering with the mouse, great idea!) and close second F1GP from Crammond. And wow Test Drive, how awesome was the Countach!
These games rocked on the Amiga.

Nice.
I remember the game very well. The AI on expert level was untouchable, I swear they had 20 tons more downforce than me, judging by how much more speed they could take the fast corners.

Very first was I think Lomard Rally on the C64. However I was young, it was before I got in to F1, the game was difficult and not very good, so it didn't get played much. Thus I count Bill Elliot's NASCAR on the PC as my first true game. I played it a lot with middling success, until one day I stumbled across a setup that suddenly had me winning races. A week later I managed to lose the piece of paper I had the setup scribbled on, and I never won again.

Oh, I remember that game! Used to love choosing the 'Gold' driver and seeing how fast I could go around Hockenheim... I remember that if you used manual gears and geared it properly, you could exceed the speed of sound in first gear. Good times...

Toca touring car championship on Playstation. It didn't take long till I was onto Gran Turismo either though!
Excellent game! I always loved driving as James Thompson in the Honda, Rydell in the Volvo or as Will Hoy in the ford for some reason!
This was my first though -
Remarkably simple and addictive

Phew, good question!
Really don't remember the name of the console, neither the name of the game.
The console included a wheel and a small screen with in orange colour on black background. Borrowed it from my littlesisters friend, 'think it was in '79 or '80.
My first C64 game i clearly remember, though!
Mastertronics "Speed King"
My fav. track by then was Paul Ricard
All time favourite is Geoff Crammonds Grand Prix 2, of which I participated in the internet series LFRS (Little Formula Racing Series) between 1996-1999
Edit: totally forgot Pitstop for C64!!
Don't really remember if it was before or after Speed King, but I loved it just as much

Baddog,
Looks closely something we kids did in early 80's and older kids in 70's.

Edit: Never mind. your game seem to be board game with little cars while Neppis was and is real sandbox turn based racing with 5-10cm long plastic 50's racing toycars.

Stlll got my dad's one of those, though a different issue. Fantastic game mechanic using the speedometer to control your car and speed limits with penalties to tyres and brakes for exceeding them on corners.

Am I the only one to remember "Mario Andretti's Racing Challenge?" First PC game I bought with my own money, didn't have an Atari or anything like that growing up.
I progressed onto GP, GP2, Indycar (including the expansion pack with the extra tracks), NASCAR, etc before the cost of upgrading the PC exceeded my desire to meet it. Then I got a Playstation and started all over again....

REVS on the BBC Micro, in 84 written by Geoff Crammond, later more famous for F1GP/GP2/GP3/GP4.

And Chequered Flag on the Sinclair Spectrum, in 83 /84.

And you whippersnappers can get off my lawn !
Love your Chequered Flag retro! The good old days! Have you also, by any change, footage showing the 'Nigel Mansell Grand Prix'? It was also a Spectrum game. The turbo made lovely purring sound when it kicked in. I've managed to dig up my old sheet with lap records: Monza 0:54,10 - Saturn Sands 1:12,24 - Silverstone 1:01,34 - Cambridge Ring 0:46,26 - Brands Hatch 1:04,78 - Monte Carlo 1:39,26 - Le Castellet 1:15,94 - Micro Drive 0:49,04 - Psion Park 1:23,78 - Zeltweg 1:05,74 :-)

Accolade Grand Prix Circuit:
Then onto GP2/GP3/GP4/F1Challenge/rFactor/iRacing
Same here. That engine sound (together with GP2's kerb-rumble) is forever etched in my brain. Wasn't there a mode that allowed you to compete with others locally, sort of turn-by-turn? Maybe this is just something we as kids made up, but I remember playing entire championships in that game. The Hot Seat in Crammond's Grand Prix games was the next best thing.
After GP4 I played Live for Speed for a while, but haven't done much 'serious' racing in years. Compared to LFS, the online components of most other games are fairly terrible, and always seeing the same tracks (both in LFS and in F1/GT games) has left me bored. When I go for an online race these days I usually turn to the rather fantastic Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. It has Danica Patrick, so there's that...
Memories i did attempt driving the real 24 but lasted 2 and a half.
I actually did that with a couple of friends in Test Drive: Le Mans. Good fun!

Absolutely there was! You could customise the number of players and the number and length of each stint. A red light on the dash would flash to let you know you were approaching the end of your stint and that the AI was about to take over.
Among my circle of childish friends this moment was always met with a chorous of "FLASHING KNOBS!" in an 'Allo 'Allo accent.

Hi. Can anyone help me out? I do not know how to post videos directly. Thanks!
I guess it was "Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge" for the Amiga Commodore
https://www.youtube....h?v=Ui8xYi0nL-k
Then, years later, games were much better and I started getting interested in f1 games with "F1 World Grand Prix" for N64
https://www.youtube....h?v=LT6oYj9tzTI
But I think those games cannot be called "simulators", so the very first one for me was "F1 Challenge 99-02"

i have played a lot of racing games and ran through sim games, almost exclusively motorsports, a few stand out:
Micro machines i liked along with f1c 99-02, and super monaco gp
while not strictly racing games, they had vehicles and speed involved and sometimes you could race others, midtown madness, motocross madness and GTA:SA are examples, i was particularly partial to loop-de-loop around the chicago city zone.
other arcade games like re-volt, test drive and need for speed were apart of the charm like lego racers (the original, not the abomination that was the second game which was awful).
some sim games like f1 99-02, rfactor and iracing
some sim manager games like grand prix manager 2 and mygpteam.
i pretty much played anything with 4 wheels on it.
