The first difference is clear just from the fact he now has his own column. No words from Lewis needed!

I think he got one article about charity so far.

I just hope he will manage his time well, so he isn't distracted from his racing duties "ooh sh**, I got deadline tomorrow" :)

He is hosting a twitter Q&A on Friday too. It's at 9pm local time so not sure if it's a team thing or something he is doing on his own at the hotel.

Seems the Lewis personal PR campaign is in full swing now. I guess the freedom he's got now he's left McLaren is the reason for all this change.

Guess this will make it a bit more difficult for benson and bbc to be unfairly critical of hamilton

Either way good on ham will be nice to get his true opinions without his words being misinterprited by the media

wonder how restrictive that Mac contract was....

one might also say he started getting tattoos once he knew he was leaving Mac....

Doesn't he already have that with Twitter?

Still, looking forward to it. Should be entertaining reads.

I have mixed feeling on this. Is he really going to write this column or will it be a PR piece written by someone from XIX that he approves? If he does write it, how much "behind the curtain" stuff will he let us see? I don't think Lewis is political by nature so I'm hoping it won't be a propaganda vehicle for him.

I would say that Lewis will write that. At least Mark was writing it like that

McLaren controls everything. This is OT but I am sure McLaren made sure he did not contact Sutil during his legal troubles. For me it was a shame on Lewis part but then again he sold his soul to the devil McLaren team.

Back to topic Webbers column was great, lets see what Lewis can do. He is never short of giving insights so looking forward to it provided its about F1. I just hope its not about his lastest fishing trip with Alonso, or playing play-station online with Heiki or popping over next door to see Nico and his GF.

If true that would be outrageous.

If made up, that would be outrageous.
Maybe he'll comment on his relative freedom in his column.

It's Hamilton's column so he will write about what he thinks is important to write about. There will be those who will like it and those who don't will not read it - that is obvious and inevitable.

Exactly, just as Webber wrote about his love of other sports, Lance Armstrong, his own charity events, new contract, etc. He'll write what he wants.

Actually, Webber didn't "write" anything, and I wouldn't expect Hamilton to either.

Mark Webber was talking to BBC Sport's Andrew Benson

Yep. As with Gary Anderson they have a (phone) chat with Andrew Benson - who by the way must have the day of his life - and he'll type it into something worth reading. I liked how they did it with Webber. Webber being Webber and all.

great news, fair play to both Lewis and the Beeb.

It does look like that McLaren contract may indeed have been quite restrictive, and it does make you question some of McLarens policies.

Andrew Benson is an odd writer, he goes to extremes over Lewis. His on track triumphs get cheered to the rafters but he fixates endlessly on his mistakes and what he sees as Hamilton's personal flaws too. He's like the narrator in Gossip Girl! Doesn't care whether Hamilton is up or down just as long as there's drama. And when there's not actually any drama, he's not above trying to stir it up.

Still, I always liked Mark Webber's column and was sorry when he gave it up. I look forward to hearing what Lewis has to say.

a) The first column is always going to be a personality-heavy introduction.
b) There hasn't actually been any racing to discuss.

It's topical. People will be interested to hear how he's found the move. I don't even know why I'm repyling to you. Perhaps let more than 1 article come out before you've made your mind up? Or was Mark Webber's series so perfect that you haven't been able to emotionally let go? I found it interesting to hear his mood and experiences from his mouth rather than some self righteous guardian journo or agenda-based fan for once.

I feel cheated, I was expecting him to say something stupid again and I would have a belly laugh. Maybe next time. ;)
