Today we see outrageous things like Vettel ignoring team orders bc he is faster than his teammate. In other seasons we've seen things like driver blackmailing his team with threats of showing emails to Mosley. Who's the most ruthless driver in F1 today?

Alonso ruthless? :rotfl: his driving doesnt put other drivers lives at risk like schumacher's did.

It has to be Vettel, because he seems to like running himself or other drivers close to the wall.

On track? With intra-team politics? In general, based on the 2007 shenanigans, I'd have to agree with those who said Alonso. But I don't say this approvingly.

Of past drivers? I can't say; pretty much all drivers pulled some ruthless stunts from time to time. There surely are some 'ruthless' drivers at the back of the grid, too - though they're probably more likely to be known as crash-prone.

No, he would have never given a hypocrite apology.

It isn't Alonso. He's one of the fairest / cleanest on-track, and I don't say that as a fan of his.

I don't think the OP was focusing solely on on-track behaviour. Other than that I agree with you.

What I was trying to say was that FA's ruthlessness (for want of a better word) doesn't include on-track stuff, so he's not the most complete in that respect. :drunk:

To be honest, Alonso is way too emotional to be ruthless. I'd go for Schumacher.

Politically? Alonso by a mile. Closely followed by Prost (although that's circumstantial).

On the track, Schumacher.

Fixed that for you. Thank you.

On-track:

Schumacher / Senna (track action)

Coming up:

Vettel.

Off-track:

Alonso (politics)

It's not comparable.

So you feel Alonso is ruthless in PR and in the way he treats his team, but in racing he is more like Raikkonen, Button, etc. Vettel the more Senna type?

It takes extra outrageousness to hire BRIATORE of all people, in conspiring to subvert Ron Dennis WHILE working under him.

Something like that - he's too fair on track to be Dick Dastardly is all I'm really saying.

Most of us only really know the top drivers. From those, I would tend to pick Alonso. Hamilton and Vettel are too busy apologizing. :)

Alonso. He's at least up-front about it. No 'oh, I didn't realise what was going on, I'm sorry!' there.

Ruthless in his mindset, but more clean and effective on-track than dirty/knife-edge stuff. Vettel is trying to be hardcore but can only pull it off with half-baked tricks like Australia 2011, Hockenheim 2012 and Monza 2012. Sometimes when he's in the same circumstances as others it works correctly and he has a VERY good move (divebomb at Sutil in Australia, outside pass at Barrichello in Brazil 2009, credits for that) but I think his mindset is wrong and he tends to push the boundaries beyond the rules where f.e. Schumacher was pretty much always closer to that AND more effective.

You seriously think he'd have to do that? I think we've seen before, it just doesn't come to that with Fernando, it's much easier.

I totally differentiate between being an outrageous brat behind the wheels and being ruthless and manipulative "off the track".

Fernando also has the utmost respect of every other driver out there. Even Felipe. It's a lot easier to get your team-mate to play ball when they actually respect you, Webber is never going to play with Vettel again and it could end up biting Vettel in the ass.

Not sure what you mean by this. Vettel was issued team orders to let his teammate win and ignored them.
