Good to see quite a few TNFers today at a generally sunny CPoP, especially Tim Murray and Arttidesco who had set off from Bristol before dawn cracked.
I shall leave it to Messrs Raine, Arron and Rainford to post their pictures of the highest fliers at the bridge

Suggest Robbie Kerr in the Radical :)

Why? Aren't they good enough photos?

Absolutely nothing wrong with the photos -they're brilliant  . It's just that I don't recognise the likes of Jorg-Oliver Holzwart's 'Brutus'

Rob Hall in the W125 replica

We had an amazing day out, and the weather was remarkably kind. It was good to be part of the little TNF gathering at the bridge – seeing the wonderful W125 pop over the bridge followed immediately by the early Cooper 500 was a slightly surreal experience. I saw lots of cars I’d never seen before, including the Lotus 35-Martin V8, the JAP-engined Tojeiro, the ‘Jenks’ Lagonda special, the propeller-driven Messerschmitt and of course the incredible aero-engined monsters.

I thoroughly enjoyed CPoP, and hope to be back next year. On the way home we saw a rather depressing sight - an Aston DBR1, which I assume was the one which had been at Cholmondeley earlier, stranded by a roundabout on the outskirts of Whitchurch with collapsed front suspension.

Slightly disappointing to hear one of the commentary team come out with the old chestnut that Stuart Graham was 'the only person to have won a TT race on both two and four wheels'.

I would have posted earlier but garden duties with the strimmer took out my BT cable - whoops! ...although I managed to sort it in a quicker time than some of yesterdays lap times!

Another enjoyable CPOP and good to meet up with the merry band of TNF'ers.

With regards to jumping, Alan Rennie flew his Lotus 35 quite well.
Posted Image

The Sinsheim Museum are big supporters of CPOP and always turn up with some interesting equipment although perhaps the UK weather perhaps doesn't suit their 1907 Maybach - Zeppelin 23 Litre.jpg :)
Posted Image

Possibly the loudest car was the 7 litre Chevy Corvette - seen here planning jumps in the Paddock in friday mornings rain.
Posted Image

Rod Stansfield was out in the DSJ inspired Lagonda Rapier. This car looks beautiful, so I think the good scribe would have liked a few oily finger marks on it!

PAR at work - plus an Arrows A6 :)

Good to see a JPS Lotus 87
Posted Image

Nothing to do with TNF.... but no matter the weather the Supermotos are spectacular. Quicker than the Supercars last year!!

Wanted to see the '03 Bentley and was not disappointed.

Had a great time with Tim visiting Cholmondeley for the first time yesterday, lovely to catch up with Alans, Cox and Raine, Phil and the ever enthusiastic Simon. Sorry to have missed Sarge in the commentary box.

Sorry, Phil, Rob Hall this time :)
A gorgeous day today; one couldn't have asked for better weather and, yet again, the forecast had proved to be inaccurate - why do weather forecasters, with all their sophisticated equipment get it so wrong on a regular basis?
Although not 'Nostalgia', the battle for honours in the supercar and track day classes is good sport to watch. On his last run, Robbie Kerr left the record at 55.26 seconds with his Radical, seven seconds better than the best supercar. Jolyon Harrison took regularity honours with his 1949 Frazer Nash High Speed. Best Historic F1 was Rob Hall with the JPS at 63.39 seconds.
Lovely (and lengthy) display by the peerless BBMF with Lancaster, Hurricane and Spitfire all giving their own individual performances before joining up to head back to Lincolnshire.

My apologies, D-Type, in all honesty I hadn't got much time or the programme and, other than Brutus, I wouldn't have named the remainder with any accuracy. So also thanks Alan for doing the honours.

Battle of Britain Memorial Flight took me by surprise as it was a little early, in fact it happened to arrive just as I was purchasing some stuff from a German chap. Great display, almost as if the Lancaster was indulging her children, just circling in the background while they performed for the crowd, then coming back in to shepherd them off home again.

Posted Image

No matter how often they do this, it always draws a crowd. Duncan Round and Mavis, the Packard engined Bentley special.

Posted Image

I'll stop there as my programme is still in the boot of the car.

So which bit of this is 1907?

Early Zeppelin would be side valve and 21 litre - just as the Douglas Fitzpatrick Met - and as I understand it the Met is fitted with the earliest survivng engine

Later Zeppellin as used by Collings in his Mercedes Maybach creation was OHV and 19 litre

None of which fits with 23 litres.....so what is the background of this machine?

Here's what the Sinsheim museum says about the car:

The engine in their photo appears to be OHV.

Nice to see one and all (as well as assorted Halls). Herewith a couple of things I noticed.

Posted Image
Keith Harris: Chevron B25 1, Orville 0.

Posted Image
Rare flame-free shot of the Packard Bentley.

Posted Image
The idea Gordon Murray pinched from Messerschmitt.

Posted Image
In the first year of the CPoP, Andrew Wareing took a wrong turn after the chequered flag and drove his Williams FW06 to the fringe of the A49. He had no such problems this year with his BRM. P261.

Posted Image
Saturday's Spitfire flypast achieved greater heights, as did a couple of buzzards loitering near the himp-backed bridge, but Tim Marshall-Rowe was ever elegantly airborne in the Dealer Team Lamborghinii Manchester QV500 Superleggera.

Posted Image
Phil Rainford is terrified of Maseratis - something to do with a Scalextric accident in 1966, I believe - and still takes shelter behind the nearest tree whenever he hears a 250F.

The Warsteiner car captioned as Rob Hall in an A6 is Rick Hall in Abba Kogan/Omnium Ventures' A3. Phil has been briefed on Hall identification but not on the various strains of Arrows :D

It was driven on a number of runs by Anthony Reid, Ralph

PS Sorry to have missed saying 'Hello' to elansprint, glanced on the opposite side of the track but was offered a ride in Phil Hosker's Bentley but, sadly, had to decline.

I believe that there were supposed to be no 'spectators' at the HUMP back bridge hence the lack of speakers. However if there were no signs prohibiting spectators then I suggest you report this oversight on the CPOP website and I am sure it will be rectified for next year.

Just off to put some pics onto farcebook so will be back later to add some into this thread.

The stretch between the bridge and the finish was a genuine spectator area, with ropes to keep us away from the track and also from the field behind us. We had a very good view of the action at the bridge. I suspect that a lot of people didn't realise that it was there - we only found it thanks to advice from Messrs Arron and Cox.

Last year it was cordoned off to general public because they'd assigned that bottom field to be the helicopter landing area, I seem to recall locked gates and so on, though people were climbing them. This year was properly roped off for a path along the side

As I suggested earlier it may pay dividends to let the people at CPOP know that they need speakers down there next year!
