Singapore 2013

Well, it looks like (of all places) I'll get to watch my first live F1 race in Singapore in a few months as I'll go to a local uni for fall term. I've read the old Singapore F1 threads, but thought I'll open a new topic for this years GP.

A few questions to the more experienced members:

- Where to sit? Apparently, it's a case of the more expensive, the better view in Singapore, but I'm a bit on a budget naturally. GA won't be great for a city circuit I suppose..?
- There are a lot of concerts during the race weekend, is there free access if you're a F1 ticket holder? Where do they normally take place (vicinity maybe worth considering when picking your seats)?

I'm sure there will be more questions, but that's about it for the moment.

P.S.: Just found out that Justin Bieber's to headline closing concert in Singapore and was like !?!?!

If there still was the Kangaroo TV thing, you could consider a room in the Marina Bay Sands for the same amount of money as an F1 ticket and catch the race from the airbed in the pool with a Singapore Sling in your left and the little screen in your right

I've managed to wangle a business trip to Singapore over the grand prix weekend!

Like you, Jovanotti, I'm trying to work out which tickets to go for. I did General Admission back in 2010 at Silverstone and have to admit I didn't enjoy it too much because I was standing the whole time. I'm very fidgety so I hate standing still, and when it comes to race day if you don't have the willpower to stand still for hours I doubt you'll get a decent view.

I like the look of Bay Grandstand but it seems so much cheaper than the other grandstands I'm wondering what the catch is? Personally I think all the other grandstands are too expensive for what it looks like you get, it's not as if Singapore has an iconic corner like Eau Rouge. I do like having a seat so I'll probably go for Bay, if not I guess GA Zone 4. Apparently that zone is near the main stage (which I was told today is near the Padang grandstand) so it's good from an entertainment point of view too.

Also, Justin Bieber can happily be ignored. He's performing on Monday evening and you need to buy tickets separately to get in, so I don't really see how it's connected to the F1. Performers during the actual GP weekend include The Killers on Saturday and Rihanna on Sunday.

Looks like it's going to be Bay Grandstand for me, too . We're booking as a group, as you get a better price if you buy 4 or 8 tickets and more. The Esplanade theatre stage is just besides and the Padang zone is not far away either. Seems like good value overall.

FYI the Esplanade stage isn't just behind the Bay grandstand - it's a little walk away - through a very narrow walkway - which after the race - will take you about 1 hour to navigate through. You also have to use this walkway to get to the Padang.

The quickest way to get from the Bay grandstand to the Padang stage is:
- get out of Zone 3,
- take the first pedestrian bridge over the track on the immediately on the left to reach the Esplanade,
- walk along the water towards the Padang and access via under the Esplanade Bridge.
It is much faster than walking all the way towards Gate 3 then queue forever to access the Padang via the underground passage linking the Stamford and Connaught grandstands.

The bottlenecks are the pedestrian bridge and the Zone 3 gate (going in), which is why reaching the Esplanade stage (located behind the Esplanade Waterfront grandstand) can take a little while. I would allow 30 minutes. Nice bars and places to eat to, so not a bad spot and hang around between sessions.

I always thought Singapore is a sh!t track, and from a racing point of view it certainly is, but now that I've seen (part of) it, I'm convinced it will nevertheless be a great experience.

Guys, is there a pit walk in Singapore, and is it limited to certain ticket categories? Couldn't find the info on the site...

There is a Thursday Pit Walk in Singapore, but it's not freely open to any or certain ticket categories. You enter a ballot to win tickets and that is now closed.
