I am a sucker for new content....

started with a duo of Maserati race cars, and as always i had shadowplay record :

Maserati GranTurismo MC GT4

and the Maserati 250F T2 12C:

First impressions are that the 250f is fun, but can bite. Also the steering rack is sooo slow compared to modern cars :)

I'm liking the Maserati GranTurismo MC GT4, really a beautiful car, great sound and fun to drive. The 250F is.. painful for my arms, I still have to understand how to keep it on track at speed, it's like driving a banana with four wheels attached lol.

The 250f is very "spongy" to drive, as you can see from the tankslapper halfway through my lap... and you really have to work that steering wheel... im using all the 900degree turning on my logitech g27

Tried the Ferrari 488 GT3 from the Red Pack today, and i liked it better than the Maserati GT4 car as it felt a bit more "alive".  Yet to try the modern F1 cars, but those don't really interest me as much as the old cars and the GT stuff. Modern f1 cars are a bit too complex, and with lots of downforce you feel a bit "disconnected" compared to the older cars that rely on mechanical grip

Any comments on the old timer F1 cars in Assetto?  The Lotus 98t is wonderfully simulated with sublime feedback effects.  The Lotus 49 seems to be of similar quality while the 312t feels subdued in comparison.  Has anyone tried the Lotus 72?

AC seems to me to be exactly the game I hoped Project Cars would be - but still a bit light on content unless you're really into GT3s.

Remember that there are tons of mods. Quality varies but there are over hundred cars and tracks to be loaded.

Light on content?  I'd surely like some more "road" tracks for street cars but.. how you can say that with all those cars and tracks and new DLCs every other month or so +the mods?

I have like 1300 hours of gameplay so far.. The other day I realized I haven't been driving the Sauber C9 or the BMW M3 E30 or the Audis for ages. It's just that there's so many cars and each one takes time. Last weekend I spent maybe 2 hours driving the F40 on a mod track (Riverside, fantastic mod track).

Back to what i wanted to say: I'm loving the Maserati 250F 12-cylinder at Brands Hatch. Very lively with the tail but predictable and absolute fun. Guys have a try!

@Kanisteri You won't be disappointed. In my opinion it has better car dynamics than all others, especially on low-medium speed stuff. The variety is fantastic, and it's nice to feel the differences between all cars. And you know what, you are not missing much in terms of modded content. It's rarely up to par on quality.

I miss modded conten already. I have seen Dodge Chargers (60's) and I want them. :p

Reason to get Assetto Corsa is much praised driving feeling and realism. I don't think I will do much good in racing, but I'd like to get the feeling of powerfull and dangerous cars. :D

How ever there seems to be up to 90 car available from release. And I am not happy with them much.

I bought this with a few packs on Steam sale the other day and am fairly impressed.

I have found an annoying thing though.

I grew into sims playing RF and Race etc, and have a G25 wheel from back then, it has stood me amazingly well! But the spacing is hard for heel and toeing on a G26 pedal set I find.

My preference for driving is H pattern box (if the car was that way in its time) with clutch and blip myself for downchanges without clutch. So left foot brake, change manually H patterm, clutch for launches, and self blip for downchanging. This works well on most games like Dirt Rally, RF, RF2 etc.

AC seems to favour heel and toeing in cars with proper gearboxes, as if you do much else you get either damage to the box and eventual failure. You can self blip but it is haphazard?

Any suggestions on how I can try and maintain that style or do I have to learn to heel and toe!!

I am also bit worried of Fanatec left out from officially supported wheel sets for PS4 version of this game. But it seems like it's more with Sony being sensitive with their ca$hy contract with Trustmaster wheels. I look forward Fanatec working even with this.

I am not at the gaming PC now but in the "drive" menu there is a setting in the "realism" tab for "automatic throttle blip and cut". That should do the trick. I love heel and toe though :D

AS far as I can find through playing you CANNOT use an h shifter without using the clutch pedal too so you HAVE to heel and toe.

I tried a few cars and tracks like the M3 and the Alfa Junior, slow basic cars to try and get used to it, and it's like driving in reverse to me I am afraid.  I was in those cars with auto blip and clutch and it just ignores them if you use h shift, so it overrides your menu choices sadly.

Might be tempted to ask for a refund. AS this is really ruining my enjoyment initially.

Great game, SOOOOO much better than Pcars, nice to race without invisable walls and cars that stick together,

And we have found a workaround for no private lobbys on ps4

League racing soon at vroom.tv

Okay, I drove 3 laps with BMW M3 E30 at Monza (PS4). Due Assetto Corsa and Sony facked up Fanatec wheel owners (wheel did work before day one patch but Sony forced to not support these wheels anymore) I had to drive with gamepad. Graphics are nice, but didn't like driver's hands switching from left-middle-right almost digitally. It was terrible looking and I always drive driving games from dashboard view. Fortunately there was dash cam without wheel animation. Car felt odd with gamepad though it was drivable. I have last time driven car game with gamepad in 2005 with Gran Turismo 4 due I was briefly not able to use wheelset. This game was advertised how good feeling it has on various cars. I cannot verify that because gamepad is not facking real way to drive car.

I will not touch this game before it gets wheel support for wheel I have. I have zero interest to buy new several hundreds euros Logitech or Trustmasters wheel for PS4.

If Assetto Corsa would have revealed earlier that Sony forced them to not support Fanatec wheels, I'd have cancel my preorder of this game. I feel cheated.

Any possibilities for a refund, incase Fanatic support does not return? I would be extremely annoyed if a racing game scraped support of my wheel leaving me to drive with a controller :/

Nope.

Game does works, they could claim. They just removed support of Fanatec couple days before release.  On time when preorders were already sent to customers.

However there's some CronusMax called dongle which could emulate other wheels to become like Logitech G29 and work with PS4 Assetto Corsa. But do I want to spend 50 euros on such thing is another thing. However, none will guarantee how long it does work before evil corporations like Microsoft and Sony would block them too.

Can you actually explain what is going on here guys?

You are console players I presume? And you can no longer use a Fanatec wheel with the game?

Can you not simply use the wheel anyway? And set it up using the calibration screens and key bindings?

Are you sure Sony have blocked access and support for the wheel? Why on earth would they do that? it is pointless? They do not sell a wheel of their own that you would use with this game, could understand it if they were selling a Sony built AC wheel? You sure this is not simply a release/patch issue that might get resolved soon?

Chunder27,

My only PC is laptop and it's not good for games. With console I can quickly play with 46" HD screen as 3D or normal. Console cost about 400 euros while my laptop 800 euros.  I cannot afford to build game PC which would be ideal for motorsport simulators.

Yes, Sony forced game developers to drop all Fanatec (and other wheels which has no contract/license with Sony) support for new and future games for unknown reason. F1-2016 and Assetto Corsa being first victims. Sony is even bullying or being greedy or both.

Unfortunately opposite. Game did briefly work with Fanatec wheel, but after first patch "fixed the clitch -ref. Office Space" it didn't work anymore.

I just read the review of the console version:

http://www.autosport...w-assetto-corsa

I can't say because I have it on PC, in any case good that Autosport acknowledged the game.

In other news, two great free track mods are available, both stunning reproductions of US tracks:

VIR (Virginia International Raceway) has just been released:

http://www.racedepar...raceway.125986/

RIR (Riverside International Raceway), the track doesn't exist any more but we can still enjoy it in AC:

You get it a lot on evening runs at the Ring on some of the more popular servers?

How do you have a Fanatec clubsport base working with one of those fold up Playseats? I thought that would bend them.

Install RSR Live Timing and comparing your speed to others will be easier (and more depressing), it would be better if the changes to the game weren't so big that they had to reset the times so often but lets hope that after some version it's just tweaking and times stay.

http://www.radiators.../RSRLiveTiming/

(BTW, it's easier for people to say if time is decent or not if you mention track where you achieved it...)

The Cronusmax developers are thieves, if your Fanatec wheel has a PS3/Logitech mode then the best and original GIMX adapter is the way to go: http://gimx.fr/wiki/...ter_for_dummies

It's cheaper (cost me £10) and has a simpler setup, all PS3 compatible Logitech and Fanatec wheels will work with PS4 racing games that support the Logitech G29 with the Gimx adapter.

It can't be blocked by Sony either as it would render the G29 useless.

"Porsche Pack part1" is now released, and as usual my credit card did not survive the evening :)

Took a lap with 2 of the (imho) most intersting cars in the first part of the Porsche pack around RedBull Ring :

* Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 3.0 1974
* Porsche 917/30 CanAm 1973

First impressions of the Porsches, is that understeer is something you have to get used to, and that oversteer usually is ready to come out and play if you go quickly off the accelerator in turns or if you dare to brake into the turn...
so a bit like real life then i guess :)

Had to try a few of the new Porsche offerings in the Porsche pack 2 DLC...

Tried the Spyder RS, 911 GT1 and the 962c long tail (with the boost on full :p )

The result can be seen here :

Mind you, this was from the first few laps, so far from a "good" laptime in either car...

Spyder RS (from 00:30)
Porsche 911 GT1 (from 04:00)
Porsche 962c long tail (from 06:55)

Had to get the 3rd Porsche pack also...

Only tried 2 cars yet, the 911 GT3 Cup, and the 908 LH around Imola. As usual i pressed record on the shadowplay, and recorded the first few laps with both. Never mind the driver erros, but it gives an idea of the cars atleast :)

One issue with the 919, and especially visible on longer tracks: the energy deployment limit per lap is hardcoded and not linked to lap length. Try it on the Nordschleife and you'll find yourself having to run on the engine alone for 2/3 of the lap. It's interesting to use the different hybrid modes though on Monza- or Mugello-length tracks, especially when chasing a laptime.

(PS4)

I gave up and bought brand new Logitech G29 for 189 euros (good offer I suppose) and gave it ago in Assetto Corsa with Mustang at Spa.

Though wheel feels more toy than Fanatec wheel, I got used on it quite well and made decent 2:55 laps.

Now I need suggestions for good force feedback setting. I pretty much used default ones and removed stablity control, traction control and set wheel for 900 degrees.

pity the mod doesn't look properly finished or tested, the compressed view in the drivers mirror is a classic and the flickering tyre texture on some of the cars would be a concern. Ah whey, i suppose for modders you either release your mod and let picky gits *looks in mirror* pick fault for the update that's one way. The other way is to mod the thing to death, spend weeks making the bonnet pins animate the right way and never release at all.....

It might be also due performance of computer. Full grid and replay, it can be compromise of graphic quality versus frame rate... :p

and that, my dear chap, is the PC sim conundrum in a nutshell......the modders want to use all of the capacity, but the majority of users don't have that capacity anyway and the end product suffers.

I did test Porsche Pack 2 and Red Pack yesterday including Ferrari SF15-T (F1 car) and 12 cylinder Maserati F1 car from 60's.

While I have no experience of real F1 car, it still felt very odd in Assetto Corsa. I had to brake very early, go slowly through corners. Handling was like with road car. Odd thing was in setups too: tYou were able to adjust front right and front left downforce. Very confusing...

I've played with F1 or equivalent cars from 90's Grand Prix 1...3, Ea's, Sony's, Codemaster's + Gran Turismo, Project Cars etc F1/GP cars, but worst feeling has hd in Assetto Corsa. Coding is not right for this car.

Maserati felt very odd too but it did remind a lot feeling from Gran Prix Legens, so it's maybe more accurate than SF15-T.

I've found the 2013 Ferrari much more rewarding to drive than the 2015 one. The steering's so strange in the SF15-T. The F138 around the Nordschleife is a blast, brilliant, then I tried the SF-15T and it was nothing like as good.
