More info here: http://www.ign.com/a...nnounce-f1-2013

If they do it right, then it'll be a lot of fun. Really excited to have Estoril, Jerez, and other tracks back in a proper F1 game. Hopefully they'll be selectable for quick races using the 2013 cars.

Finally. Why build a new engine and not plug in the old stuff. I want all F1 tracks ever available as DLC (and a few non-F1 classics). For a reasonable price of course.

Yeah but they've only gone and split the classic content, so you get some with the standard edition but if you want a bit more, you have to buy a classic edition. Just smacks of a cheap money making tactic to me.

That's the bit I did not undestand... is this some sort of limited edition thing or a DLC?
Anyway, it's about time Codies jumped on the nostalgia bandwagon.

Only five classic cars? So they'll be limited to time trials or head-to-heads like the old Sony games?

Nah, i think it's only Williams, Lotus and Ferrari cars. However, it's the first time they've put in classic cars. Sure, they will put in more cars and tracks in future editions.

Also McLaren have some sort of contract with Simraceway. Simraceway has the M23, M26, MP4/4 and the current cars from 2010 onwards.

All the cars are available in the classic edition but if you get the standard edition then some of the cars and tracks will be DLC aka the stuff included in the classic edition but not the standard.

It's 10 cars, 5 from each era. And there's a number of drivers as well. You can drive the classic cars in time trials, online (but not with modern cars), on the modern tracks (and vice versa).

"What we really wanted to do was just enable people to save the game whenever. So you’re on lap 13, you've got to go out for dinner or the phone rings, now you can complete it at a later date. Save and resume whenever you want. I think more people will be able to enjoy what Formula 1 entails and the strategy involved."

Awesome, don't know if I will buy it. I still haven't gotten past Valencia in my career in 2012 :well:

Yeah, at least they've made some effort in the artistic sides.

Classic tracks announced so far include Estoril, Imola, Jerez and Brand Hatch, the latter being my fav all time track so I'm not complaining but we'll see what more it announced as we close on launch.

Do you happen to know which versions of Imola / Estoril they have done?

I'm excited to see any classic content really. I realise licencing is a huge issue so I'll take what they can put in. Plus I think I prefer that they're not necessarily including the obvious popular cars and drivers. I'd be as excited to be able to drive Senna's McLaren, Mansell's Williams or Prost's Ferrari as I would to be able to drive Nannini's Benetton, Alesi's Tyrrell or Capelli's Leyton House.

Here's the Eurogamer interview which seems to explain some of what's going on

Of course this is the internet, so Codies could promise to have a game with every car, driver and circuit since 1950, for ten quid, delivered to your house by a naked women (or man if you prefer) and people would still complain.

Just found out today about the classic element to F1 2013.

I am so f***ing excited!

Sure, it will have its bugs, and it won't be a hardcore sim, but I'm confident overall it will still be one of the best F1 experiences out there. With classic F1 cars. Come on!

Hopefully they give more force feedback in the next game, I really dislike how the controller doesn't vibrate at all if you start to oversteer or something. Maybe I'm just used to Forza too much, but I find it way easier to drive fast when I can feel when the car starts to get squirrelly.

I wonder how this is going to work with classic F1 machines being on the next installment of Forza... a move to compete with Turn 10, perhaps? Any idea whether Codemasters is in danger of losing the F1 license?

Grand Prix Mode returns so I believe we can.

And vice-versa (80s-90s car at current tracks) too.

Would those Forza cars be the 76 McLaren and Ferrari? If so, they're not covered by Bernie... anything after 1982 is licensed to him.

I think Bernie own the F1 brand but the teams still own the cars and can put them in any game or movie they want without talking to Bernie as long as they don't call the championship F1.

Just read about it on JAOF1 http://www.jamesalle...formula-1-game/

This is a great idea and the footage looks great already  Will wait and see on the physics, watching some of the VVV videos of the Mansell '88 Honda at Suzuka the car looks like it's got some serious grip.

Alan  Thanks for sharing. How does it stack up to other F1 sims (rfactor/isi games) and the mods of these eras?

The Classic Edition is now available for pre-order on steam. I read somewhere that it's digital only for PC.

http://store.steampo...?snr=1_7_15__13

This year F1 2013 has a pre-order reward programm. Basically it's a ploy to get lots of pre-orders, as the more people order more rewards get unlocked, first tier reward is a free copy F1 Race Stars (on steam), second tier is a 50% coupon for Codemasters titles (on steam), third tier is a free copy of F1 2012 (you get an extra copy to give away if you already have F1 2012 on steam). Usually the tier 3 rewards are the good stuff, but in this case I think the tier 1 reward is the best of the lot. I may use the coupon to get Grid 2  and the Indycar DLC

Well it has worked, I will be getting a copy, which I certainly wouldn't have done with just the contemporary drivers/tracks.

I wonder if any more tracks will be forthcoming as DLC, I would particularly love to drive the original Hockenheim circuit and Donington Park (can't do 1993 without it).

works on me too. 1996 was the season when I truly got into F1 at the age of 12, so to at last be able to play using Hill's title winning car, and have access to the F310 which is one of the best looking F1 cars ever I think... it'll be awesome! Back on PS1 at the time we had f1 titles for 1995 and 1997... they missed out 1996 and I was gutted back then!

Hopefully the F310 will be the low nose version not the shark nose.

On the actual game front, all I really want this time is a difficulty mode where I can find my level. In the others Ive been to fast for one mode, to slow for the one up. Annoying as hell!!!

If they are going to throw in an old track, for me it'd be Osterreichring or Mexico City.

CM said they remodelled the handling. I'm really looking forward to these because F1 2012 was really hard to setup the on Logitech Momo wheels.

Soooooo, early impressions.

Classic cars are a blast, a bit too forgiving perhaps but you can actually feel the front sliding and the rear letting go under throttle with 90% of them, really encourages you to take them to the limit and have a bit of fun. The modern cars however i'm less enamoured with, so far. Less traction at lower speeds is good and feels like a step forward, however the power is all at the top end of the rev range, they're completely flat low down, to the point in 1st-3rd you have to apply full throttle to get any decent acceleration, before backing off as the rev's increase, almost like the torque curve is vertical or it has turbo lag!

And the front end has no feel, none, i've now idea when the front is going to wash out wide, it just sort of does without any warning and it inspires no confidence which kills the enjoyment factor. I've only done a handful of hours so i'll give it more time and attention, maybe fiddle with the FFB settings to try and improve the situation. I REALLY want to like this game, its just won't let me fall completely for it.

While I am no fan of computer games, I did take a look at the youtube video because of the classic feature. While the graphics are pretty impressive, I found that the sound of the 1.5 litre turbo engine was shockingly unrealistic. Sounded more like a F3000 car. Can't be so hard for them to master this surely? There is plenty of good onboard footage from the turbo era especially from the like of Nakajima and Dumfries.

Comparing to 2012 I think they've managed to make the handling feel more solid, like the car actually has some mass, and I like it. Also the curbs are a bit more tricky to negotiate, as they were a bit easy in last year's. Overall a good improvement.

The classic's mode is great though. Great fun taking those older cars for a spin, and also mixing and matching modern cars with classic tracks or vice versa is very entertaining.

Overall  over F1 2012.

I've said before that I had problem setting up my old Logitech Momo wheel onto F1 2012, but with F1 '13, no problem so far.

Still handling a bit understeer to my taste, but it can be solved with setups.

Anyone else finding tyres impossible? Done 5 races in my career so far but I have yet to get to the end of a stint without falling off the cliff. At Spain, 17 laps, my options were gone by lap 5, two laps earlier than my planned stop, then my primes were gone 4 laps before the end. Pitted again and I was screwed, finished 14th after starting 8th and running 6th early on.

Otherwise I much prefer it over last years game. I enjoy the handling again.

True. I thought I would buy it but I'm not now im faced with having to spend the money. 2012 was just to bad to warrant giving Codemasters anymore of my cash for this series - the difficulty settings were so poor it was unparalleled in my gaming experience. History shows the inevitable patch will be inadequate too.

I will save my money for GT6.

Absolutely loving F1 2013.  Much less buggy that F1 2012 on launch. (xbox version for me)

I have managed to get the tires over the cliff, but took a long time. - I had pitted at end of lap 1 in a 25% race as thought I had a drive-through penalty, but was in fact going to be added to my final time! So my tyres got changes from Options to prime after one lap, and last 2-3 laps my tyres were all red and totally shot. I battled on though as a test.

Really enjoying the 1980s and 1990s cars and the different handling characteristics and sounds of each (although some do sound dubious as has been pointed out).

I would strongly recommend buying this game - you will not be disappointed!

I should just add that cockpit view in the Classic cars becomes a feasible option, by virtue of the fact the drivers sat (precariously!) high up then.  2013 cars still much easier with T-cam view.

Yep I'm absolutely loving it too, it's just loads of fun.
I have the PS3 version on a 60" screen and the worst of the texture and horrible Anti Aliasing problems from 2011 and 2012 are gone or at least mitigated.
I'm guessing that the Lotus 98T isn't entirely 100% accurate but it's an absolute BLAST around Brands (it can't be accurate can it because I can haul it around!)

Regards Mike

It's been sitting on my HD for a few days, been too lazy to set it up (last year, there were all of these kinks I had to iron out before I enjoyed it).

Looking forward to giving it a go.. should be good.  I only do time trials (for setup work) and online racing.. but last year I had some good fun with this.  This year, I'm hoping for less fixing things in the beginning and to enjoy it the same way.

It's the older versions.

It's not an old version of Imola - it's chicane-at-Tamburello version. (Perhaps there's some other changes since I'm not aware of though).

Hi would anyone know if 'F1 2013 Classic Edition' is coming out (in Australia) on PC? I can buy the normal F1 2013 on PC. But I can only see the 'F1 2013 Classic Edition' for PS3 & PlayStation. If I can't by the  Classic Edition' I wouldn't buy it F1 2013 game, because there's a lot more in the  Classic Edition'.

does anyone know

I am too lazy to create an account on Codemasters forums, so I will dare to ask here. Anyone else noticed unrealistic results? Sometimes best drivers are well down the field. Alonso, Webber and Vettel outside the points in my first career race. Today Hamilton was on a quick lap i Q2 (great sector 1), but session timed out so he the game didn't bother completing the lap for him? He was out in Q2. Hulkenberg is 2s faster than Gutierrez in qualifying second time in a row. I know it's good to have some unpredictability, but I think it's a bit too much  :drunk:

Other than that, the game has a great feel (I don't mean the handling and driving simulation, but the atmosphere that surrounds you, I can really get into the Grand Prix weekend)

So far very easy to setup, I think this could be the only racing game I've ever played, where I felt like I didn't have to fuss around for 2 days, tweaking settings until it feels right.  Even the deadzone and everything, feels very good with everything on 0%.  Only thing I did was getting a new cockpit, so that it's lower and closer to the wheel, but that's just personal preference.  So far seems much more polished out of the box, than earlier versions, and the default setups very drivable.  Can only imagine how much better it will feel with some tweaking.

mouserat159, I bought classic edition on Steam 3-4 days ago.  If you mean in a box, in a shop.. I have no idea.

Just read Glenn Greeman's extremely long winded gripe (analysis section, Autosport.com) about F1 games rights issue - preventing Codemasters from adding GP3 and GP2 career ladder to the game.

Whilst he has a point that the commercial rights holding in the sport does prevent this sort of stuff - I really can't say I'm remotely bothered about not being able to drive a GP2 car in an F1 game.

I'd like to be able to edit the grids however (e.g. stick Rosberg in a McLaren) in the same way that FIFA games allow you to transfer Robin Van Persie to Norwich City.
