On that photo, besides McQueen with two girls, one can (barely) see the tail of a racecar.

The idea was, that might be the 908 camera car for the LM movie, but that car had a different rear Gurney/spoiler, no pinstripes and no Bell stickers during that weekend.

Could it be that 908, but at a later event ?

A friend had posted that photo on Facebook and we were wondering what it might be. There has been no information, where it had been taken, either.

Thank you for any ideas !

just a thought: the 908 cameracar was used a year before filming the Le Mans film (during the race). The photo seems to be taken during the filming of the 'film', so much later ..

Maybe that's trivial..

Michael, to add to your OT: consider 'these' girls are now in their crisp sixties...(I'm working hard on another WARNING POINT!!)

Thats a possibility, of course. The whole story is not that important, I have just been curious because of the obvious difference in the livery of that car.

Back to the topic. Checking racingsporscars.com: was that camera car chassis 908-022? If so it could have been at the Buenos Aires 1000km race in 1971. The colours would fit...in that case I was 1 year old when that picture was taken. Way to young to chase those two birds.

Thank you for that answer - yes, it was 022.
Very interesting, so - did McQueen race 022 there ?

Edit - just checked at racingsportscars.com, McQueen was not listed there.

McQueen sold the car to Team Auto Usdau, who ran it in the 1971 BA 1,000 km for Hans-Dieter Weigel and Eduardo Coppello:

so it seems unlikely he'd have been in Buenos Aires. Here are the results for chassis 022 on Racing Sports Cars:

and here's the TNF thread on the car:

McQueen/Revson Porsche 908/2

Yes, have seen that - thank you Tim.

It is strange, though, that - if it is the tail section of 022 in the McQueen photo - the livery doesn´t match any photos from Le Mans, but could match the Auto Usdau livery from Buenos Aires.

Maybe Solar Productions had the rear spoiler painted red and had the Bell sticker and yellow or golden pinstripes applied before the car went to Usdau ?

Yes I too am always using TNF to drift off topic, just spent hours trying to find a photo of the 908 in "hot girls" livery, best I could do was this linked pic of what I believe might be the same car, but carrying the #27, a still from the 14 min documentary, at 10:21, of the making of the film linked here.

Also found some more footage at 3:00 of the camera car being prepped here with it still carrying the #48 white Sebring livery.

Sorry for being the cause of another unplanned search !

Have seen the photo before, but not the short film of the preparation.

Thank you for that link !
