I have been looking into all these people and it quite often brings me to this forum there is a fantastic knowledge on here i Hope some people remember these owners after all this car has had a full competition life with lots of enthusiastic owners i think that is why it has survived.

Lotus30.com has a lot of pictures and history on these cars but in all fairness to Kirk the site does not get updated to offten If you have any pictures i would be most great full  andrew.bradshaw432@btinternet.com Thanks for reading this andy

I saw this car run a number of times in 1966-67 when owned by Shaw and then Dagiel. I have photos of them at Road America in those years. I can put you in touch with Dagiel's son if you are interested.

The only name I recognize is George Raterink. He owned and I believe founded a road race course near Mead, Colorado, named Mountain View Motorsports Park, in about 1986 or '87. I heard he raced in some capacity but never knew more about that.  

I think Ray Bell referred me either because he knew I lived in Colorado (1980-2013), or the fact I posted on another thread that as a sign painter I lettered "Team Lotus" on what I think was a 30 in about 1989, at Performance Racing & Development in Denver (founded by John Barker, RIP 2015). I don't recall the owner's last name but am almost sure his first name was Norm. I do know it was not Raterink, nor the other previous owner you listed as from Boulder, Colorado.

I hope this helps in some way, and Thanks again for writing me.

My friend the late Norm Martin from Lakewood owned a green Lotus 30 briefly; he was wheeling and dealing in old vintage race cars in the 1980s. I also recall George Raterink, who owned a Tojeiro (among other cars) and ran the now-abandoned road course at Mead, along I-25 north of Denver. Don't know where he is now, but he was well known in vintage-racing circles. My friend Bob Seiffert is still around, living near Boulder, so I supplied andybrad with his contact info.  Wasn't "Gains" in Missouri another vintage-race car dealer? Robert Shaw may have been a guy I met 20 years ago on the Colorado Grand. He was a friend of Bob Sutherland's and drove an Omega/Intermeccanica. Bob Seiffert may know him. I only laid eyes on this car once or twice, but obviously it impressed me!

Hello Andrew,

I think I have a few snaps of the car and I'll look for them.. I had two cars, the 30 and a 30/40. I'm not sure which I have pix of.
The 4th owner should be listed as Chuck Haynes. I believe you might be able to reach him through Lime Rock Motorsports park in Connecticut. I seem to remember he was the track manager there.

Yes i found his old company still trading  in the US i rang them his  secretary was still there shame  time waits for no man.

There were two Bob Shaws racing out of northern Illinois, so there is much confusion as to who's who. Frankly, I remain confused.

 

One raced Alfas and Lotuses, the other was active also. The non-Lotus racer ran a company that made steering wheels for big rigs and has an estate in northern Illinois near the Wisconsin border. He has several garages there with various cars in them, including the Excalibur Hawk roadster which he had constructed half a dozen years ago from the original Brooks Stevens drawings.

Yes, I believe that is the racing Bob Shaw. The other Bob, the car collector, lives about 40 or so miles east of Rockford. That Bob also raced, in vintage, usually with Excaliburs. He had a good relationship with Brooks Stevens and Stevens would lend him various cars on a long term basis to race.

On the subject of lotus 30's i have come across Bob Waters he had a 30 and it looks like he converted it to a F5000  and called it the conchord  i assume it was a 30 as it is listed as a 4.7 and i think the 40's had 5.7s any one know anything about this. RJH had it in the 80's there is a post on here about it.

The Conchord was built using parts from Waters' Lotus 40/L/1.

In that case he prob will have run the bigger engine, I only know of one 40 at the moment. the one Denty restored and is now road reg in Germany.  So it begs the question where is the concord now. I have a spare set of uprights and body plus g/box and a  engine block. What am i thinking no not another one LOL. Hope the missus does not read this.

Agreed lotus looking wheels it would be nice to find it i would have to go and see it wherever it now resides. it would be nice to get the engine number as i have the lotus 30/40 chassis list with most of the engine numbers against chassis number. this research is getting a little infectious.

As I recall, the Conchord used a Boss Mustang engine, not the engine from the Lotus 40.

Guldstrand was a non-starter in this Lotus 30-based Special.  Two weeks previous he was credited with 17th place in the second heat of the Laguna Seca Can-Am. 
 

From Howard Macken:

"I just found out about this car the other day, it was called PAM.  It is a rebodied Lotus 30, driven by Dick Guildstrand.  This photo was also shot at practice.  Shortly after I took this it went out and destroyed itself, never to be seen again.  I dont know any other details, but I have never seen another photo of this car."

 Andy, the Pam group 7 is a car I always thought so cool looking. there was a feature article on the car in Sports Car graphic Magazine in 1966 or '67. am away from home base at the moment, I have that magazine but can't get to it . there are some photos of it on the Stanford "revs" site when it ran at Laguna in 1966 ?. here is a link to a nice illustration of the car that was in that S.C.G. article. it's about 3/4s down the page.

Well the conchord F5000 car is alive and well it is the lotus 40 peter denty restored and is now in Germany.

No he asures me it came with a lot of bits inc the 40  chassis he collected it all from mallory park from the mechanic who was told to clear it all out he was with a customer racing a formula junior. didn't ask the year he has been great as he has a soft spot for 30/40s we have spent a couple of hours on the phone this week LOL.

 

Fascinating Andy. So Peter Denty bought the Conchord? Did he get the 40 chassis with it, or did he have to build a new one?

Thanks Andy.  So from my F5000-centric point of view, I guess that means the Conchord no longer exists.

The conchord was sold on by peter the chassis and body tube wish bones. he used the uprights as they were  of the 40 and he did have the 40 chassis with the car.

Hope this helps. 

PS peter cannot remember who he sold the conhcord  to.

Some years ago, the late Roger Hurst posted here to say that the Conchord had passed through his hands in the 1980s.  I wonder if he bought it from Peter Denty.  Andy, could you ask Peter if he remembers Roger acquiring it?  It would also be useful to know roughly how long Peter had the Conchord - weeks, months, years, decades?  If Peter bought the Conchord late 1970s or early 1980s and owned it for just months or years, the timing works for Roger Hurst to have had it next.  Roger also commented that he thought it had been a Lotus 30 originally and that it became a Lotus 30 again.  So as well as the Peter Denty Lotus 40 built up on the original Lotus 40 chassis, there may be a Lotus 30 somewhere somehow built out of the Conchord.

I will ask peter i suspect Rodger called the 40 a 30 easy to mix them up when only 3 40s made I will ring peter agin in the future he never answers my emails he still keeps everything on paper i have to scribble notes down when talking to him pity i never took short hand.

Andy, in the course of looking for something else, I came across a number of good detail  shots of the PAM grp. 7 at Laguna Seca '66 on the Friedman site, page 9 in particular. that you mentioned back in post # 34, and a couple that followed. did you say this was a Lotus 30 base ? if so how much of the original car is here. I believe you said that this chassis is no longer ?

Hi Andy, I am Ted Dagiel, Rich's son, My father passed away in 2010, we did meet with Kirk in 04 at that time we where unaware of the whereabouts of the car and he later made the connection to you ! My father would have been more than happy to share information and photos with you then as am I at this time. Dad was friends with both Bob and Dieter so I can share some info and pics of them also. Did see the video on you tube believe that is from 65 66 the first footage is from Greenwood IN, and then the later footage is from Elkhart Lake, you can see the Lister my dad owned at the time in the back ground of one of the scenes. Will also send you an email and my contact info. Td

Ted I was sorry to here about your dad i had tried to get in touch when i first got the car but the contact details i had must have been out of date. I am pleased you have gotten in touch now when you mail me send your address and i can send a full copy of the film i had digitised but it may be easier to contact Kirk as he has a disc of the film from me he could copy it for you.

Hi, There are a bunch of pics of Bob and my Dad with the car at the 1966 Road America 500 at thehenryford.org in the Dave Friedman collection, for whatever reason I can not cut and paste the link here. that was the race where the front chassis box collapsed at the end of the front straight while my father was at the wheel. Did some googling and found Bob had moved to Ft Lauderdale FL and passed in 2005, Bobs wife Pecky who raced an Alfa passed in 2000. Forgot that Dieter moved to TN, he passed in 2013 and was living in Hendersonville which is east of Nashville and coincidentally on the other side of Old Hickory Lake from the town I live in now. did send an email to your address, let me know if you received it
