Hi all,

Me and some friends are going to be doing a Texas/New Orleans road trip in October, and as two of us are big F1 fans we'd like to stop in on the Austin GP just for race day. The tickets don't appear to be on sale yet and we haven't been able to find out when they will be; anything showing ticket prices currently has them astronomically priced so I think those are third party companies.

Can anybody who's previously been say how early they bought their tickets? Obviously the earlier the better for planning and budgeting is what we're hoping for :)

Tickets for the 2015 race went on sale way early, in Dec 2014.  Actually kind of pissed me off because that meant COTA would have my money for almost 11 months before the actual event.

At this point the race is kind of in limbo for 2016.  Attendance at last years race was down (partially due to the race a week later in Mexico which bled away a lot of Mexican fans that would come to the US race and also terrible weather). Added to that, a subsidy the State of Texas was paying will be cut substantially.  My guess is that they trying to figure out if they can do the race without taking a big loss.  Until that gets settled they won't be putting tickets on sale. I haven't heard anything about when that might be.

Hopefully they get it figured out, COTA is a great venue and figured it would be a long time home to the USGP.

Has anybody been to the Austin GP? What is a good place to sit? I'll be on a roadtrip from Miami to Austin during that period and want to visit the GP, so I can cheer for Max. Would be nice if someone has some tips.

We have sat in turn 12 every year and got to see some great action at the end of the straight and on thru turns 13/14/15 which all are right in front of you.  15 has a similar viewpoint but is more expensive, I think due to the fact you can see the cars coming at you down the straight vs picking them up on the side.  Bonus point in that the stands are among the closest to the entrance and main consessions, etc.    There are also lots of places to drop a blanket or chair and have a decent view.

Great venue, have fun.
