Right, it's voting time! Thanks to everyone for taking part, once again you've blown me away with your creativity and humour.

 

The rules for voting are as follows:

 

Pick your three favourites (none of your own entries) and rank them - Your first choice will get 3 points, second 2 points, third 1 point.

 

(If you only pick one, or two they will be awarded three points and two points respectively)

 

Voting closes on Friday 18th March, just in time for the start of the Season.

#25-Just needed Richard Briers on the rear wing and it'd be a winner.
#4- Pretty but unreliable, and basically just a posh Fiat.

1st: #37 Lemans - Looks like the outline of a Concorde on a cream background. Very striking, I love it!
2nd: #18 DaiMOn - I usually dislike brown on a racing car, but I love this design. Well-excecuted and stands out great.
3rd: #24 Nonesuch - Clean design with bold, contrasting colours. Excellent logo placement.

#23 was well done, but I simply cannot vote for Trump.

1. #08 TheRacingElf – The colours are grotesque, but in the most exquisite way possible. I’m getting some strong Japanese GT vibes from this design!
2. #33 Deschain – The opposite of my first choice: great colours on this one. With some minor tweaking this could make an outstanding real-life design.
3. #67 MatthewA – This one and #18 are both commendable adaptations of existing designs. I went with this next-gen Prost one for nostalgic reasons.

I can see them all now. Ctrl F5 was necessary to reload all the data.

I've had to employ a spreadsheet to work out my top three I'm backing. From it, I gave "marks" for the aspects of good design, humour, good execution, comprehensive identification of driver/engine, quality and quantity of backers and sensibility about it being a believable colour scheme.

1st place my 3 points go to #21 by Disgrace with Bird's Custard. I scored it at 25 marks. Original idea - well conducted.
2nd place my 2 points go to #34 by MatthewA with Valvoline. Also 25 marks. Very Indycar. I like the curvy ribbons of colour, and the extensive use of shading in the scheme.

The tie breaker between #21 and #34, was that Disgrace's Trump scored 24 marks and I wanted my my top three to come from three different entrants. Effectively now The Wiggy drops to my 4th place to compensate. Before I looked at it in depth I had thought I would list this as the winner, however much of the text is on the small size when it could have been larger without distracting from the overall scheme.

Therefore...

I award 3rd place, and my final voting point to #33 Deschain with Benetton. I gave it 23 marks. Decent scheme, very 1984.

As an aside I would like to list those entries I also really liked.

My positions for my remaining top ten places as follows gaining between 22 marks and 18 marks in descending order:
5th #24 Nonesuch, great use of lime green, works very well with white and black.
6th #17 rjtart, it's a Ferrari. Lots of jokes there.
7th #29 Deschain, great logo work, esp' Renault Sport logo.
8th #28 Volcano, credit due because this looks like the work of a junior poster.
9th #67 MatthewA, nice underlay and fine choice of logo work.
10th #18 DalMOn (Etihad), really liked this great transposition from their aircraft scheme, and I did think I would have placed it higher.

Those gaining between 17 and 11 marks in descending order were:
#11 Radoye, nice graduation of colour but then changed just too suddenly brown to grey just aft of the Mobil 1 logo. Notablably the only scheme to correctly add the red "E" symbol detail in a circle to denote Fire Extingusher activation pull ring. Fantastic.
#22 (Like the use of triple colour highlights on your tyres. Not sure the FIA would though)
#15 top notch mega logo, nice curves of colour, but your race number missed the bodywork.
#14 Best curves of colour. Plus best use of the top area of the tub forward of the steering wheel.
#41 Liked this scheme so much I really considered doing a version too. One aspect I would have liked to see though would have been a single condensed area completely covered in scrappy mismatched stickers.
#8 obviously lots of care used in graduated colour. Good work.
#39 I think this was the best underlay of colour. Very effective nature.
#9 Love the ripples but the vast area of black is a turn off for me and sorry, I don't think it compliments it.
#36 Why Dettol and Penguin Books? Red and Green is always tricky to get right.
#30, top notch shading
#63 (like the Evel Knievel number 1 logo what with KW's back story in this area),
#48 (that says Mild Seven, not fooling me!),
#12, Really nice shading work.
#5, Adventurous use of colour to be commended.
#32 (another floating race number),
#51 too funny. Not obvious where and how the yellow tub meets the black nose.
#53, like how it reads like a PowerPoint instruction booklet.

Those gaining between 10 and 2 marks in descending order were:
#69 (green and blue working better together)
#19 Like this nice modern blue colour but it feels as if it needs something like a white to seperate it from the large black areas.
#20 oh my! What are those shapes? I think I like them at the same time I'm a bit disturbed by them.
#38 (really nice use of graduated flashes of yellow and white. How did you get it so right? Your work? or lifted from somewhere? Maybe needed more of this work repeated in other areas rarther than black).
#68 I'm thinking the logos need to be larger. What is Pandora?
#37 I like the colour splits but the balance between them and the amount of black and cream is not helpful. The split into colours needed to happen about level with the start of the side pod. Also the CN logo is getting a little lost near the engine. If the CN logo were used on the front wing end plates then it would be more visually effective.
#10 The Haas car. You just about over estimated that they may have 1 sponsor. Monster stays with MB. Tencel deal comes with Carlos Simm backed EG. You got the flag direction spot on. Grey, red, black, Haas Logo, spot on too. Well done.
#35 I'm thinking the Davidoff colours used here are due to the cigarette based brand and that would be a marketing waste. Let's face it brown is rarely seen on a racing cars because it is so tricky to do well. By the looks of Davidoff colours there's are rich dark brown outers, with graduated gold centre area. You have it as about four stripes of even darker brown and about ten stripes of various red colours. Davidoff sell perfumes too so a Cool Water blue scheme would work the anti cigs scheme loophole better.
#45 (shame the engine cover fin fell away) MS paint and cut and paste can be tricky. Credit due to this entry.
#6 Like above I'm thinking this too is from a Junior member. In future I think we need a declared age junior category award.
#1 Always tricky to post first, decent effort never the less. Real shame I could not have had it higher.
#44 Inventive but I'm quite sure square tyres won't catch on.
#7 ThomasBB, (really did like those colors and shapes but you needed another raft of work to finish),
P.S. If I may be bold enough to award a special odd prize, to any one entry it would be to yours, on the basis you have uniquely not used white. I would like you finish your design with sponsorship ideas, driver and engine combination to conclude it still without using any white.
#13 (sorry, not even a colour scheme worthy of going testing)
#2 Oh heck, but why? Going to be harsh, but in a cutting remark, please look at my #40 hotdog scheme.

Again, well done everyone (even pllebompa for #2) who took the time to put forward their ideas. I enjoyed it.

Great work everyone. Some great designs, and plenty that gave me a laugh too.

 

Tough decision, but these are my favourite three.

 

#30 - Colours go really well together - looks like a proper livery.

#24 - Nicely thought out design, very good looking.

#65 - Gave me a laugh, plus anything that has anything to do with Aardman on it gets my vote.

 

One of these days, I might finally enter this.

Honorable mentions to #7 and #25. I have doubts with #7 on how it'd look if it was on a real car, and #25 I love in side view but it just wouldn't work on a real car.

Really interesting to see what cars float people's vote.

It's not just me then, that wants the rules to be relaxed about cigarette sponsorship. Do we harbour an inner desire to allow the worst capitalistic excesses of a market economy that pushes in our faces, loads of messages that indulge in bygone dangerous pastimes like ingesting 300 odd chemicals into a person's lungs is in anyway ideal? Just so F1 can have yet more investment and more glorious colour schemes that overlook the sum total harm caused. Strange, or is it that we are all so hard wired by history now?

I even have an avatar that is intended to show how the flag of Monaco would be better "marketed" with extra flare on the world stage rarther than one that gets mistaken for Poland or Singapore.

Anyway please carry on voting - the more the merrier.
