Our regular users will already know, but it's worth a reminder that I would appreciate you reporting any dodgy/offensive/obtrusive adverts appearing anywhere on Autosport.com and the forums. You can post in this thread, contact me on the forums or E-mail simon.grayson@autosport.com

We have a blanket ban on the following (this isn't an exhaustive list):

- Ads which break the site (obviously)

- Inappropriate content such as pornography and hate speech

- Adverts which automatically play with sound

- Adverts which expand to cover up content (without you clicking or otherwise allowing it to do so)

- Adverts which automatically redirect you to another page (without you clicking/tapping on them)

We have two types of adverts on the site. Our internal ads team sell campaigns directly, and these should be high quality campaigns for things which are relevant to motorsport (eg. tickets to races, car manufacturers and engineering companies who appear in motorsport, etc). These will be targeted by country, so you will see a much higher of these if you're in the UK, the US/Canada, Australia or Europe.

Where we haven't sold a campaign directly, we work with third party ad networks to "backfill" the ad impressions. We work with networks who we trust to stick to our rules, and to kill off any ads which break these rules as soon as we know about them. The content of these ads will sometimes be based on your cookies and past browsing, but they still have to conform to our rules. We're able to keep a close eye on what sort of creative they're running on our site in the UK, but I need our readers to let me know if something dodgy is running anywhere else in the world!

If you're reporting anything, here's what I need to know:

- Where you are in the world

- Which device you're using (specifically, computer/tablet/mobile phone)

- If possible, the URL which adverts are sending you through to

- If the problem is with the look of the ad, a screenshot

The problem I reported earlier is back.

Redirected me to http://transreten.co...nHRSCZMGtj24/Jw

Edit: It's less frequent at least. Gol and Amex adverts don't cause any problems.

Yea, I'm tired of this.

I'm not being redirected anywhere, ads are just constantly loading and making using this place a slow, laggy experience.

- London, UK

- PC, Windows 10, Chrome

EDIT: Yea, I'm out.  This is unbearable.  Has happened so many times now.  I have to rewrite my comments like three or four times cuz the lag is just not keeping up with my typing.

Just coming in here over the last week has been a miserable experience, yes, peculiar to this site. The time things take to load is quite ridiculous, 2-3 minutes on occasion, as well as having difficulty in posting because every damned letter was on 3 second delay. I have always, since installing Firefox and adding Ghostery, made Autosport a trusted site. My trust has been abused. I have a full subscription and have now blocked everything that is being forced upon me, including an "Essential", which I cannot unblock separately without allowing facebook rubbish back in as well. That's it. If I have minor problems because I've blocked an "Essential", so be it, better that than the miserable experience that I've had recently. The site and fora are now working as one would expect.

I was having problems with a few sites when I used Firefox with ghostrery, noscript and adblock. I changed to Chrome and my web experience is so much better :)

TBH both your and milestone's experiences sound like either a misbehaving extension or a borked Firefox profile. Did either of you try Firefox Safe Mode or creating a new profile?

I don't use Ghostery myself, but I see you both do and wonder if Seanspeed does too. Recent versions have mixed reviews on Firefox's add-ons site, with several people reporting that it makes their systems laggy and slow. Could possibly be a conflict with something else.

That's particularly strange - the fact that you've got a full subscription means that you don't see any adverts at all. This doesn't just mean that we hide the adverts, it means that the ad server itself doesn't fire up when you land on the page and absolutely nothing should be served from our ad networks on your pageview!

I'm not familiar with Ghostry, but it sounds like the problem is either with an extension or a much deeper incompatibility with the site...

Thanks. Firstly, since turning Ghostery on whilst logged on here, the site is behaving in a perfectly normal fashion. I have tried turning Ghostery off today and making Autosport a trusted site, the problems were immediately back. I may though have found where the problems could be coming from. I always, without exception, log in on Classic Autosport.com, I have it as a desktop hotlink. This afternoon, I'm not able to replicate the problem by using the new front page, Autosport.Com. When using Autosport.Com, I can see all the ad things skipping along on the bottom left of the browser, nothing though is there for more than a second, some appreciably less, prior to the page loading. There are any amount of things, Gravatar, Facebook, around 8 different parts of that, Googleads, and a substantial number of other things that I've never heard of. When using Classic with Ghostery, the loading is exactly the same as .Com. However, when using Classic without Ghostery, each one of these things may be visible for anything between 5 secs and, on occasion, a number of minutes. I've spent the last week waiting for all these damned things to first connect, then whilst the machine is receiving the sent data.

It's not as though this has gone on forever, truth be known, I could pinpoint it to last Monday. Monday, traditionally appears to be a fairly dangerous place around these parts. ;)  The fact remains, that I know how to get over it without, it would appear, any unwanted ramifications.

What has occurred to me is, that it's possible that the log in sequence which changed recently, may have done so at around the same time that the problems started. Every day without fail, I have to log in. I am automatically logged out of Classic at some point between !2.00 midnight and 03.00. This does not apply to .Com. Ever since the new front page was introduced, those favouring Classic would see this screen after hitting the hotlink,

Capture_zps5dmy3tqq.jpg

Until recently, it was a question of logging in, enter, and that would be it. Now though, it only requires ticking the remember me box and hitting log in, then I, and assume other Classic users, get this, encouraging by stealth, the use of the new site,

Capture.JPG2a_zps1jla97qo.jpg

If you then click on the back to Autosport, hotlink, you are taken to the new site. If however I use the back button to go back a page, I then get this,

Capture.JPG2b_zpszeudrec3.jpg

Far favourable to this mess,

Capture.JPG2d_zpsfgl3hnqz.jpg

I suppose that I could eliminate my problems by conforming. Hummph, some hopes of that!

Perhaps. I was running out of patience fannying about with Firefox. I've stuck with Chrome. For now.

Have had two extremely annoying pop ups on the mobile version of Safari within the past 24 hours—these look like an actual system pop up dialog that says, "Congratulations! Your iPhone/iPad has been selected to win a $1000 gift card!" I can't close it without clicking it (which I won't), so this forces me to close whatever tab I'm viewing to get rid of it and prevent the automatic redirect that begins. Needless to say this is incredibly frustrating. Have also been getting the lag issue as well.

Next time it comes up, I'll copy the web address that shows up in the address bar when it does and paste it here.

Thanks Afterburner.

If you could include a screenshot and the country you're seeing this in as well, that would be perfect!

Spoke to soon! Here's the URL I'm redirected to: http://dabtracking.c...54&t=1495853741

Dialogue says, "Compngratulations, customer! Your iPad has been randomly selected to win a $1000 gift card!" like an iPad system dialogue. Only has one option for closing, which will no doubt redirect me to their site.

For the last few months I've been experiencing an intermittent problem with 'expanding' ads on my mobile (Safari on iPhone6, in the UK). If there are sufficient posts between the ad and the reply box the effect is minimal as the ad stays behind the posts, which can still be read:

IMG_2968.png

If, however, the ad is close to the reply box, its expansion covers the reply box and makes it very difficult to type a reply:

IMG_2967.png

As I said, the ad expansion is intermittent - I'd say it happens around 50% of the time - and quite often causes no problem as the reply box is still accessible. It is very frustrating, though, when the reply box does get covered.

Latterly, (for a Canajan user), the link to

sdk.steamrail.com

is producing freezingish goofiness. Not sure which ads it's associated with.

Just had  a Western Union advert - sound only , whilst viewing the Paddock club. Closed down site and reopened to post here. Not a problem on website feedback.

I'm getting this all the time on Android (in the UK) for the past couple of months.

Thanks for the reports, everyone. Just a reminder that if you're reporting a specific ad, it would be useful to get the full URL that the ad is pointing through to (including all of the bumph at the end of the URL, which is often a giveaway of where it's come from). Some clients buy ads through many, many different ad networks.

As for the expanding ad on the mobile forum covering up content and the reply box... Can anyone who is seeing this confirm that they haven't enabled any sort of "desktop mode" in the mobile browser? Those double sized ads shouldn't appear on mobile, so I'm trying to figure out how to replicate the problem...

Grayson. I can confirm that desktop view/mode is not activated in either browser settings or site settings.

The options available to me on my phone appear to be 'Mobile Version' or 'Full Version'. I assume 'Desktop Mode' is the same as 'Full Version'? Whatever, I always use the mobile version, and it is on this that I experience the 'expanding ad' phenomenon.

I've just had a voice advert mentionung a blog when I posted a reply in the paddock club. Shut down the site and re-opened to post about it here, then had a voice advert for Durex. Shut down again and posting here with a very noisy music ad playing.

I meant the setting where a mobile browser makes the website think that it's a desktop computer - it was a lot more commonly used when some mobile sites had limited functionality compared to desktop sites.

Those larger ads are only supposed to run on desktop computers, so I was checking to see whether it was was anything to do with that sort of desktop mode. It sounds like that's not the problem, so we'll hunt down the actual issue!

We're supposed to be blocking ads with sound and ads from that sort of category, so something's gone very badly wrong if that's sneaking through...

Were you in the UK when that ad was served?

Ok. For the second time this has happened, now. Opening a page (in this case Ver vs Ric in RC) instantly opens a "You've won an iPhone 7!" page and cannot return to forum, giving only a 'leave/stay on this page' option (which you don't want to click)
Displayed in the address bar is (are you ready for this??).......

Edit: Readers, this is meant for Grayson. Do NOT click on this link yourself.

Super annoying ad (home depot on my phone) that loads about 30 seconds after the rest of the page does and resets the position. Makes you want to hurt the phone through a window.

I'm getting various ads when I open pages on either the main site or the forums. The page will load, then go blank and try to open the App Store. Even if I click "Cancel" it will open the App Store anyway. Usually tries to direct me to a Coral, Ladbrokes or SkyBet app. This is in the UK on iOS, both iPhone 6s+ and iPad.

Example redirect link (apologies for the length):

It's currently impossible to browse the site on my phone, because after less than five seconds on any given thread, I'm redirected to this URL: http://promotefine.c...12&t=1501702332

I'm in the US. My phone almost ended up in the next state after my seventh try using it to post that here. Very, very aggravating.

I'm getting various ads when I open pages on either the main site or the forums. The page will load, then go blank and try to open the App Store. Even if I click "Cancel" it will open the App Store anyway.

I too have been getting this fairly regularly over the last few weeks, but I've never let it run long enough to see which app(s) it wants to take me to. In UK, iPhone 6.

Sorry this is happening - I've asked our ad traffickers for an urgent solution and we will disable our backfill advertising if we can't solve this straight away.

I've also had this reported in an email from kissTheApex:

I'm getting quite persistent phishing/redirect (promotefine.com/..........) for the last hour or so while I'm reading a bulletin board post in Racing Comments section. It happens within a minute or two of loading the thread I click on.

I'm on iOS, Safari and I always click on "Full site" (desktop site).

Is anyone getting these hijacking ads on the main site or is it only happening on the forum?

The offending network should have been stopped.

This might take about 10 to 15 minutes to feed through as a result of caching, etc. but if anyone sees this again after that, please let me know right away!

I can be contacted at simon.grayson@autosport.com if you can't post on the forums...

I've been browsing the forum for a whole 10 minutes without spam so it looks like you've fixed it... Thanks Grayson !!

Glad to hear it - and since no one else has reported this problem, it sounds like we found the offending ad tag!

I've been clean, too, since reporting it.

Jon's now getting what I got (according to seeing his "webmobi" link, ain't opening to verify, HA!).

Grayson, for me it happened on TPC and TNF, and it easily took me 15 tries to do my quick post above before it took over!

International PR Message: Ferrari Good, Webmobi Very, Very Bad. ;-)
