I don't know if members do this already, but I think it would be a nice way for members to bond a little to have some sort of SIM racing between us!

How about a test race to see how we like it? Most people have rFactor, right? This 2005 mod is nice, I've tried it, easy on the CPU. http://www.moddb.com...ds/ctdp-f1-2005

Anyone interested if I set up a race sometime next weekend?

EDIT: I've added a poll, so let us know which Sim(s) you have and I'll see which has the most users to make a racing group with.

I dont think RF is a good idea, probably better with AC.

Yes it's a bit newer, RF is quite old now, and a lot of folk find it hard to sort out the mods etc.

Better with AC

Never heard of it before. I could easily get it if there are a lot of users of it here. I just thought RF is the sim everyone and their dog has already? I was thinking about getting the most people onboard as possible, so I'm going for quantity of participants rather than quality of the sim.

I understand what you mean, but RF is just a very old game.

You are more likely to get people who play current games I think, and I don't know many folk who still play RF much.

If you get a consensus fair enough, I still have it and there are some great mods we could try.  So let's see?

Personally I'm fine with AC but I've never tried it online yet.

It's too good to drive in single-player. All I've done in recent months in it was hotlaps, especially trying to beat the clock around the Nurburgring in GT3 cars. :D

I understood you guys meant this sim group being PC? No consoles?

I got recently 1998 released Grand Prix Legends to work with my 2015 model Win 10 HP laptop!

But there's no way I can run Assetto Corsa, Project Cars, Rfactor nor iRacing with it. Lack of juice.

THe main reason being that consoles are just easier to host on and you can have team speak easier perhaps?

I don't own a console myself.

Well that's why I want to do this on a sim that is accessible to everyone on the forum, even people who aren't hardcore sim racers but just want to have a bit of fun with other forum members (so bog standard PC). Your 2015 laptop should be able to handle rFactor though, no?

I think it's a goer if you have the right mod like Enduracers or one or two others.

I don't own a console myself.

Main reasons are I've pretty much abandoned PC playing decade ago and this laptop is for internet, youtube, paying bills and partially for work (though I have employer provided better laptop for work now).

Console is for fun and in long term much cheaper than PC which could run modern games.

I have got GT Legends and Grand Prix Legends running with full details smoothly, but games like Civilization and Car Mechanic Simulator and any title released after 2010 are very sluggish.

So I will not even try rFactor.

Just tried it in the Merc 190E, I'm 50 seconds slower than the fastest time.

If you're interested in a comparison between the number of active players of different racing sims on Steam, you can check here (I replaced Project Cars with Project Cars 2 because it's new): http://steamcharts.c...0,266410,378860

Assetto Corsa has as many people playing it as PC2 despite being a game from three years ago.

Assetto Corsa seems to be running away with it. We'll go with that then. I'll have to get the game and familiarize myself. Any particular mods you think are good for it?

There are not that many decent mods for AC to be honest

The DLC covers a lot of areas, you have LMP1 and plenty of road cars and GT stuff, probably best to start with the basics.

If I would have PC capable of running Assetto Corsa, I would only need one mod.

Really?

There are some decent ones around!

Bets for a thing like this is either single make, Porsche Cup or something

i built a PC to play assetto corsa after several years away from gaming/moddingand it was worth it, not daft expensive to put together (thanks to a combination of ebay, amazon and FB Marketplace i did a whole rig including G25 wheel for £350) and the game is very very very very good

How does it work with the different AC networks, is it possible for players on Xbox or Steam to play against each other? What are the options for buying it? I guess there's no such thing as buying the game directly and starting your own network games any more? Can't find any info on this stuff. Been away from racing sims since GP2.

Oh that reminds me, what kind of frame rates can I expect with my Pentium MMX and a Matrox Millenium card? :p

I very much doubt you are able to mix types like console v PC

Then obvious question is whether this will be a console or PC league?

Also, is Steam the only option for buying it on a PC?

Pc I would imagine, its the easiest to set up

Or perhaps GT Sport when it gets a bit bigger!

For the AC players on PC: there is a free service called www.simracingsystem.com, they have races every hour and it's a good option to find full grids and decent racing quality. Quite a few simracing websites host short leagues using that service. I have joined a few races and it's good to have full grids, points, a penalty system for accidents etc. The races are also streamed live on YouTube.

How does he change gears without taking his hands off the steering wheel ? That's quite the trick in that car.

I suppose it's so because car is mod by some player.

Probably it's a lazy mod where they didn't even do the gear change animation. More "legit" and well done mods can be found on www.racedepartment.com http://www.racedepar...-corsa-mods.36/

Not the same car, but a very nice "vintage muscle car" mod: http://www.racedepar...mustangs.19574/

So I finally got a racing sim working. Who's up for a challenge on AC on PC before I get any good at it?
