The MTC is located in a difficult area for public transport, the local traffic is horrendous & finding accommodation to buy or rent is difficult & expensive.
So people such as young grads or those on a lower wage are disadvantaged.
There is one thing though, you could not make up.
As is usual in motor sport & the car industry, the so called 'great brains' did not do their job & create enough parking spaces for the number of people employed, even using the overflow area.
Now whoever was in charge of this, let's call him or her A.N. Arsehole, decreed that the long, wide access roads could not be used for parking because they made the place look untidy.
So this scheme was devised: Each morning, cars were double, triple & sometimes even quadruple parked, blocking in the majority of vehicles. So each
employee had to register their vehicles numbers with Security & leave a form on the windshield with their contact details. Then, when parking, they would take the details of the
other vehicles affected. Then once at work, they would open a computer program, list their intended time of departure & inform those involved.
If, for example, you needed to leave before somebody blocking you in, you had to contact them to get them to move their vehicle.
They would have to make the long trek to the car park, in rain & snow, sometimes more than once. That's if they were available & not tied up in meetings or important work.
I know of somebody who needed to leave at 3pm for an important doctor's appointment, only to be blocked in by a vehicle without the windscreen id.
After appealing on the tannoy system & checking with security, the vehicle was unknown & the culprit could not be found. He was blocked in until 6pm, when he vehicle mysteriously disappeared
& could not even leave the premises. He got no sympathy from reception, security or the wonderful HR people.
That's just one small story & he resigned very soon after, vowing never to work there again.
So don't get me started about the rest.....
