The Competition

OK Admit it, we've all moaned at how crushingly dull and disappointing some F1 liveries have turned out at some point on this forum.

How lucky then, that we get to 'right' that particular 'wrong' with 'The Unofficial 2018 Livery Competition'.

Last year, your top 3 looked something like this. Some random called Owen won.  Frood and Anja providing strong competition.

Top3_2017.jpg

The Template

The template is brand spanking NEW for 2018.

It has; no shark fin (you can thank McLaren for that).

It has; a series of overly complex barge boards (you can thank CFD for that).

It has; HALO (and you can thank the FIA for that...).

It was very kindly donated for us to use / abuse by Will Tyson at WPTFormula. Check him out.

This is available as a jpeg (white background) or png (transparent background). You will, however, need graphics software of some kind to create your livery magic.

The Rules

The rules for the competition are simple:

  • The Autosport Forum moderators have final say over what is and is not allowed.
  • Do not copy existing designs, that's kinda dull.
  • Do not change the template, it's not fair.

The winner of the competition gets a few congratulations, the honour of calling him - or herself the winner, and the job of hosting the 2019 competition!

The Schedule

The competition starts today, on 3 January 2018.

You can submit your entries until 1 March 2018.

Voting will then commence and end just before the first F1 race on 25 March 2018

A series of voting 'heats' will be conducted on this forum using votes cast in polls (watch this space).

The winner will be announced shortly thereafter, in the weekend of the first Formula One Grand Prix of the year!

Good luck, god speed, now get busy with the crayons and enjoy !

Owen’s winner from last year was very nice. Hoping for quality entries this year.

In keeping with this threads historical heritage...I'll take hysterical comedy entries over "quality" every time.

I had not seen last years thread before, so Frood's #2 entry from last year, combining hysterical comedy and quality, just made me spit tea all over my laptop once I got the connection. Funniest thing I've seen here on these forums since the day-glo Pagenaud :D

When I get home I'll link 2013 though last year's thread for you. Some tremendous stuff there.

Thanks for hosting the thread but I'm just going to say it: the template is a total mess. Most of the lines across the sidepods are unnecessary. I will contribute, but I will edit the template.

Hmmm. There must be some creativity bubbling under the surface here.

Here, have this low-effort piece of rubbish for a starter whilst I decide what I really want to create.

Try imgur or imgpile. Imgur tends to compress the images but it’s quick and simple.

Some big Hollywood guy just gave us all his money to start up his F1 team...
He had a few stipulations however.

Love the purple Christina eyes there. Has that Space Jam meets too much sugar girl pop. Also, some subtle Nigerian there on those sidepod winglets.

We need more purple F1. More purple everything.

Was using the wrong template one of the stipulations?

Anything goes! Some of the more 'notable' entries have been made in Microsoft Paint. :p

There is also more elaborate free software like GIMP.

So a watercolour using the template and then scanned and uploaded is OK? I'll need help getting a file on the forum if I come up with anything. Not a clue in that regard. It'll make a change from landscapes.

I'm actually a bit reclutant to paint on the new template, it does not inspire me

Imagine the historical significance if the 2018 Livery Contest was based on the new indycar template  :stoned:    :smoking:  :smoking:
