Assetto Corsa Competizione, the new official game of the BLANCPAIN GT SERIES, an official grand touring racing series, named after world-renowned Swiss watch manufacture Blancpain and organized by SRO Motorsports Group, will be speeding onto Steam Early Access this summer.

 

Featuring an extraordinary level of simulation quality that allows players to experience the unique atmosphere of this GT3 Series, players can compete against official drivers, teams, cars and circuits with the highest level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Taking full advantage of Unreal Engine 4, Assetto Corsa Competizione will ensure the highest quality rendering with photorealistic weather conditions and graphics to reach a new standard in driving realism and immersion racing. Players will experience highspeed torque as they get behind the wheel of luxurious speedsters including Ferraris, Lamborghinis, McLarens and many other prestigious GT cars reproduced with an outstanding level of detail. Motion capture technology is used to create the animations of mechanics and drivers in an even more realistic fashion and guarantee a high level of player engagement during races, pit stops and driver changes.

In the final version of the game, players can expect advanced multiplayer functionality with Assetto Corsa Competizione, including a ranking system which will evaluate individual performance and driving behavior to reward the most virtuous drivers and promote fair play in online competitions.

Totally. I recall some chatter about the unreal engine having its own physics engine. So, it's not immediately obvious if Kunos would be able to port the physics over in a like for like manner. Such questions are well beyond my pay grade though. 

 

In a way, being limited to GT3 could be considered a bit of a disappointment. However, if Kunos manage to pull off what is being promised, this will be a hell of a title. I'm definitely on the hype train.

With PS4 version of Assetto Corsa I'm happy with all but one thing. You cannot really change strenght of forcefeedback of wheel and it's very weak. I hope they will fix it for existing game and new  A C Competizione.

A new game?

 

I hope they adopt the physics based lighting of GT Sport as the other games look less photo-realistic compared to GT Sport due to lacking this, IMO. (Even though the models are detailed, the unrealistic looking lighting spoils the photo-realism. :) )

You can fully adjust the force feedback settings on all versions of Assetto Corsa, including PS4.

As full force feedback, feeling is still very weak. Like driving on ice. I don't like it.

What wheel are you using? When I moved from PS4 to PC around a year ago I didn't notice a difference.

I don't think the G29 can ever match the strength of a real car.  To do that you need a $1000+ "direct drive" wheel.  Some of those are strong enough to break your wrists in a crash!

Stefano, the lead programmer, said one of the few things that could be carried over to ACC from AC is the physics engine, and even said that now it's full 64 bit math (I have no idea what that means, but he is quite proud about it so it must be something cool).http://www.assettoco...s-ac-acc.49142/

 

The general opinion is that this is just a first step towards AC 2: they can focus on a limited amount of cars/tracks and work on the new features instead: night, rain, online championship, new graphics etc. Eventually this can be applied to a more comprehensive title which includes road cars etc.

 

The great thing is that ACC will be available in Early Access in just about 4 months, so I better get some mileage in the GT3 cars!

For those that aren't aware, an Early Access release of Assetto Corsa Competizione was made available on Steam last night - I'm very impressed thus far. There's some work to do, particularly with optimisation, and of course there are the usual bugs you would expect with an early access release... but all in all, it's pretty much everything I had hoped for!

Really interesting, kind of going full circle on project Cars which is too big and too complicated. by focussing on one series ACC can really refine it.

This is a head scratcher, in theory I like street cars and don't care about race cars but in first game race cars were (perhaps unsurprisingly) so much better to drive on average so I have a feeling that cars in this will be nice to drive.

Indeed. I've got about 20 hours in now, but I'll be taking a bit of a break, as there are only so many times you can lap the Nurburgring GP circuit in a Lambo before it all gets a bit repetitivetive! Still, in three weeks time, we get Misano, the Continental GT3 and VR support.  :love:

So... i tried it :blush:  

 

Found the lambo to be a bit understeery the first few corners, but getting more neutral after building up some heat in the tyers i guess. Was a bit "flat" driving with my 27" monitor now that i have driven PC2, iRacing, assetto corsa and R3E with VR for a while, but that will only be temporary so i can't really complain. Seemed like there was a bug when i turned off TC and ABS  in the setup screen, but it was still on when i tried driving a few laps (although you can turn it off in-car). Once they where completely off, the car went from ok to drive to impossible :p Probably didn't help that i most likely had cooked the tyers when i turned the aids off though :)

For those interested, 0.6 is out (I think it's 0.6.3 now). I highly recommend trying the rain, very addictive. Multiplayer starts to work fine, I have had a few intense races so far. Getting good.

1.0 coming on May 29. 0.7.2 is already good, multiplayer starts being clean with all the rating system and the penalties in place. It's not F1 but to me it's really good stuff.

How is the CPU usage on this? I have AC and enjoy it, but when I have more than 20 cars on screen I run into a CPU bottleneck that slows everything down to a crawl. Is this about the same?

Well, afraid I had the same experience but throught it was b/c I used the SOL-mod (real weather + realtime sun/moon location on hemisphere), so I ditched it before christmas again.

But I tried it yesterday with standard sky - it's actually OK here when I stay with 1 class, eg. 24 Porsche 911 GT2 2017 at Interlagos, but when I try different retro mods for e.g. Targa Florio track mod, fps are very low - in contrast to Assetto Corsa mixed classes at Targa Florio (My PC = GFX: Sapphire Nitro RX580 8GB GDDR5, CPU: Intel i5-4660T, RAM: 16GB DDR4 3200MHZ) 

(In fact I returned to GTR2 10th Anniversary HQ mod and other GTR2 mods - night and day simulation for endurance racing is still better here, though now 13 years on  :rotfl:)

My only issue with this sim is that it runs fairly poorly in VR. :well: But it's brilliant otherwise, for example our last race at Brands Hatch turned out to be a wet one (random weather):

I don't have a PS4, but people don't really recommend this game on the PS4 because it's limited to 30FPS, which will really ruin the experience. The PS4 just doesn't have the power to handle with the graphics of this (the PS5 should do much better).

That being said, if you're willing to deal with terrible frames, the rest is all identical to the PC and it's awesome. It's a bit of a different category to GTS, that's more a casual game but with a huge variety of cars and tracks and a proper career mode etc. Whereas this is a proper simulator so not much of a game, and the focus is more on the realism of driving.

However, it's much more accessible than your average simulator. Since all it has is GT cars, and the GT3 category is made for gentleman drivers with traction control and ABS, and the game offers pretty good base setups, it's pretty easy to just arrive and drive without having to get too technical. The AI is also good if you want to do offline single player racing, though again, don't expect a nice career mode with a storyline etc. And like any sim don't expect this to be any good with a controller, really need a wheel.

On the PC it's my sim of choice at the moment, with the Sim Grid website/system now setting up several semi-casual regular races every day, I can just register, start driving 20 or 30 minutes before the race to get up to speed, and then just drive and be fairly competitive. No hassle, all is very clear and simple. With other sims it's.. you need much more preparation than that. Example, I've registered to a RFactor 2 race tomorrow.. Been spending most of the week just setting up the damn game, and not sure I'm comfortable enough with the car not to be a danger on track just yet.

I think the Xbox One X (or the new consoles) are the only ones that run it properly on console tbh. Even on PS4 Pro I’ve heard it isn’t great. Patches have made it better on the consoles but the base machines really struggle with it.

If you’ve not got PS Now then there’s a free 7 day trial available just now and Assetto Corsa is one of the available free games (so amazingly is F1 2020)

There’s actually a load of racing games on there.... worth the £8 per month sub at the moment

I've got a PS4 Pro so went for it and downloaded it last night...

 

...it's really good  :D The feeling is much closer to iRacing than GTS, and I think that multiplayer is a bit better by keeping the same competitors on a server for race after race rather than constantly changing.

 

Although as you say the one downside to it on the PS4 is the fps. It just lacks that smoothness that really makes a good driving experience.

Yep, I've already had someone trying to ram me out of the race on a long straight while on a public server. The servers seem a bit hit-and-miss (excuse the pun).

 

What would you recommend for getting some decent racing without punters?

Tbh on the PlayStation you're probably screwed. On the PC I'm all-in to the Sim Grid daily races, I think they want to eventually set it up for PlayStation as well, but it shouldn't be soon.

Maybe your best bet would be to find a league, although leagues can be inconvenient because you have to schedule with advance a certain day and time to play.

YEah looks great and I enjoy your rolling commentary (though disagree you needed to be more aggressive, you waited for them tot angle and they did). 

 

If i was retired, i'd do a full proper rig and dedicated PC etc but I am not retired so GTS it is I guess.

Don't keep your expectations high, because according to one of their developers, it will basically be a track pack (the missing tracks from the BGT calendar), maybe liveries, but no offline multiclass races for example.

I think it's out "this winter", so given we just had Imola as a surprise DLC, I'm expecting "winter" to mean January or February.

I think it'll be Oulton, Donnington, Snetterton and a bunch of liveries. I'm still really excited about it because racing these cars round Oulton Park sounds like an absolute blast!

If I may, I think you are entering the critical uphill chicane at Imola too far to the left. Try taking a lot more kerb on the right, you get left for dead a bit there and I think that's why.

You're talking about Acque Minerali right? I know if I nail it absolutely perfectly it's quicker to take it in 2nd gear. Problem is that tends to push the car out with too much entry speed and understeer slightly past the apex. Over a race stint I probably should be going down to 1st more often and making sure I hit the apex. 
 
Or maybe it's the first kink I'm taking too much speed on, the car tends to get a fair bit shaky and then I get scared of unbalancing it, don't stop quick enough and miss the 2nd apex.
 
Honestly I'm just **** at Imola.  :D  That layout needs a level of sustained precision I don't have.

I don't know much about setups, but I do know the aero modelling in this game is pretty damn advanced, so if you stray too far from the original setups you may wander away from one of the sweet spots for the car, you may suddenly get the car behaving unpredictably due to aero stalling.

Does anybody here play ACC still and on Playstation?

 

I compete in a friendly league where we race on Tuesday nights UK time, usually the format is two 30 min sprint races with qualifying but we also have longer races too (the recent finale of our first season was a 2 hour race around Oulton Park).

 

We're starting our second season on the 8th June but will also be doing some non-championship races in the few weeks between as an opportunity for any newcomers to try it out etc. Our first season was 11 rounds and the second will be probably be a similar length. We're currently voting on what other tracks to include but as a certainty we're going to Suzuka, Zandvoort and Kyalami as we didn't race there in S1.

 

You don't have to be super quick to compete, lots of the current grid is more of the 'AM' variety but trying to improve, but we'd really like to get full grids of 20 cars each race (I also won the first season at somewhat of a canter so if you are a bit quicker that's fine you can race me!). I don't run the league but am friendly with the guy who does and we are all actively looking for some new entries! There is a stewarding system for reporting and punishing incidents and a friendly facebook group to join. There's no obligation to join an ingame chat or anything but you're welcome to join those of us who do.

 

I haven't been active in this part of the forum for a while but I hope that some of you 'know' me from my time on the wider forum. If you're interested in even just having a try in one of our spot events, drop me a PM and we'll have a chat about it!
