Notifications when posts are quoted/responded to

Hi

 

We obviously get notifications when somebody likes our posts but not if they are quoted, On another forum I use we are notified whenever somebody quotes our post and there is also the option of mentioning someone (by using @username) if you want them to see your post.

 

It's a really useful option if you don't want to follow an entire thread just to see if people have responded to you, particularly in fast moving/long thread. 

 

I don't think it's difficult to implement (and I can actually find out how if necessary) so wanted to suggest it as an option for this forum.

It's in the settings.

go to -> my settings -> Notification Options -> Topics & Posts -> Notify me when someone quotes my posts (and I'm not already following)

The mentions option is not in this forum though, it would be useful for sure.

you can select this as an option in your My Notifications, Rob. Go to 'My Settings' then 'Notification Options' and tick "Notify me when someone quotes my posts (and I'm not already following)"

I think there's a little bug there though - it doesn't set off a notification if someone posts without a quote, then edits that post to quote you.

I wouldn't call it a bug though. I've never seen a forum which notifies other users about what is basically a edited message.
