Nyck de Vries to ART.

https://www.crash.ne...urn-art-f2-2019

To have any prospect promotion he MUST beat Mazepin and in my opinion has to win the championship. He's also highest ranked driver current ranking that stays, all above him are promoted to F1. When you look at how he beat his teammate this season and how that teammate performed yesterday in the F1 test, Nyck is (again in my opinion) from same caliber as the once finished p2,3 this season. Nyck has a (much) better junior career than Albon https://www.driverdb...lexander-albon/ But as seen by VanDoorne, junior performance doesn't say all.

Curious how he will do next year and if successful it will bring him anywhere because promotion next year will be difficult with current F1 fillings and a Ocon also looking for a seat.

Did you seriously just use beating Sean Geleal as some kind of measuring stick for being an F1 driver?

Like NorwegianRudo says, you can't use beating Geleal as some kind of measurement, Nyck was at Prema this year and he didn't deliver, simple as that
Seems to have more tire problems than others

I didn't use it as a single argument. And beating lesser teammate is on this board constantly used to praise Alonso for instance. There was in that VS. battle on forehand nothing to win for Nyck with such attitude imo. You at least can't use it against him also i would say.

I think the difference is Alonso made a previously extremely highly rated Vandoorne look rubbish. For instance Massa didn't get much praise for annihilating Stroll on pace last year.

is Hubert really expected at MP? ain't that a low tier team for a GP3 champion?

I don't say Nuck is great, but also not less than Albon and if, only slightly less than Norris. If he would have won Monaco this year as all signs pointed too, there would be great chance he would have been 2nd this year. It's just close and i think not justified to burn him completely down and write him off for next year and follow-ups.

Well, he's kind of a low tier GP3 champion I'd say...

Problem is, Nick runs into too many of these problems. Baku is another one and in AD he was in the lead but ended 4th in the feature race.

All cars were reset of course, so everyone started fresh car wise. If only they had proper tires...

Coulda, woulda, shoulda.....

Just give it up, Maxioos. De Vries had an excellent chance in 2018 with an established top team which produced the previous 2 champions (GP2 and F2) and he blew it, for whatever reason. Even if he wins the 2019 title (and that's a big if), he'll be too old and marked down as a driver who needed multiple seasons to get up to speed in F2.

Gelael is gonna stay there until he gets enough superlicense points, won't he? Even if it takes 15 years and he has to buy all other seats and install slow drivers in all of them.

De Vries is legit quick and worth another chance, I disagree he'd be too old. The one thing that makes me think he can still do it, is exactly the fact that he burns tyres, because that's a legit justification for why the results aren't there - he's got one lap pace but can't sustain it. It'd be much much worse if he didn't have one lap pace in the first place.

However it's still clear two rookies beat him in the championship, which is bad. I think this is the very last chance if he wants to make it to F1 on merit, and he needs to dominate the series. Anything less, and I'm not seeing him ever getting a F1 chance without a large sponsorship deal.

And ultimately that list of potential drivers for this season, or the list of drivers for this test, looks pretty damn underwhelming. There's Mick and de Vries (both drivers I already have some doubts in), and...?

At the start of the year, Autosport's pundits almost unanimously predicted de Vries would win the title this year, primarily because of his experience of the tyres; essentially, the argument at the time was that he really should win it because all the odds were stacked in his favour. That he hasn't won it despite those odds sadly says a great deal.

"Super Formula isn’t confirmed and signed yet, it’s just looking very likely I’ll be doing that."

I hope things will change and that he does end up in F2 (simply because I won't be watching Super Formula live). Ticktum may come across as a dick but quite often he is brilliant behind the wheel.

Is De Vries still a McLaren junior? He has always had pace and lacked consistency in F2. Needs to Win this year for me and with minimum fuss. Especially considering his opposition. Mick is a rookie who notoriously takes awhile to get up to speed. Mazepin doesn't strike me as anything special, while Hubert will likely be in a lesser team. Then there's Sette Camara. Who has also taken 2 years. I'd actually edge towards him winning it tbh. Oh and Matsushita but he's a bit patchy or atleast was in his original stint.

Sorry don't rate them and haven't even heard of Tveter before. A quick look at Wikipedia tells me he's won a grand total of 0 races in 8 seasons in single seaters which is encouraging.

Wouldn't surprise me to see Sette Camara fight for the title, but still don't rate him.

I sometimes zone out during seemingly boring real life conversations, musing to myself thoughts like: 'I wonder what Christian Vietoris is doing right now. That Silverstone feature race battle with Jules Bianchi for the win was one of the best I've ever damn seen. What a lame season though lol.'

K so 2019 to look for are: De Vries, SSC, Schumi III, Matshu.
Those are at the stronger teams and based on experience/championships should be fighting for top positions. Tbh I think it should go between SSC and De Vries. They both got similar experience with De Vries being the better of the 2. He just really really really needs to work on his tire management skills.

I'm going to be cheering for Schumacher in 2019 and i'll predict he takes the championship from NdV. Fingers crossed that his mid-season 'awakening' this year wasn't indication it takes him a long while to get used to a series as I have seen mentioned, rather something clicking within him, that has taken him to the next level.

Championship or bust for Nyck de Vries this season. He has to win the title and in a very convincing way in my opinion to go to F1. Only problem is that  a lot of new rookies just entered F1 and some of the old guard left, with 20 seats it will be still difficult for him to find a seat.

I believe the possible seats are:
- at least 1 at sauber, if Gio dont deliver.
- haas probably may not keep both drivers id they keep making silly mistakes.
- sainz, only if he goes rly bad against norris.
- both williams, if one of them is too good or too bad.

So, for a F2 champion, I guess could be some space. But I agree with you, DeVries and Camara may have a shot, but only if they win very convincingly

And just as fast out of it.

I wonder what MP will do with Verschoor. He was fast, bar FR2.0 where he struggled a lot. He was kicked out of the RB program due to that, but got back up to speed again with a move to GP3 mid season this year. He is the GP3 driver for MP now, but will he race F2 a few times as well?

Can just like with Albon, they where rightful kicked out of RBR program, but when dealing good with it and come stronger out of it, you can come back. But, it's not a NGO, you have to deliver. RBR can't keep drivers that don't deliver what would be needed because you can't wait until they will again deliver because it could never come back and years for program is lost by waiting for performance while a other could have deliver or like now (Kvyat/Albon), by (temporary) release they start delivering again by seeing need of it and understand a position in RBR familie isn't a granted life long position no matter performance.

The car is the same for everyone. There might be some real differences in setup and in knowing how to prepare the car, but it's not as if Prema have some wildly different machine designed to chew tyres.

I don't think Galeal was helping much with stressing the tires. ;)

Yes, but even in the last race he failed to win the feature race while he led most of the time. Best example to me is France this year. He made an extra stop, but destroyed his tires within 3-4 laps and lost everything he gained (and then some).

And more (most/all) drivers had multiple races with tire troubles, also the once finishing above him.
