Monza 2018

So, my bucket list pilgrimage is this year, my first time to Monza. Going out there on the Wednesday (so I can join in Thursday activities ) , coming back Monday.

Staying at a Malpensa airport hotel, going to rely on the trains into Milan then Monza.
Shuttles, walking, possibly taxis to the park / track from Monza station, depending how I feel. Will be looking at 2hrs each way from the hotel everyday but hey, ho. Bergamo / Milan / Monza was just too expensive hotel wise.

Hoping to do some exploration of the park and circuit surroundings, even sneak onto the banking somehow on Thursday.

Sitting in 26c stand, covered, on the pit straight , should be alright.

Anyone else going? Advice? Experiences?

Might see the Scuderia win!

Give yourself a lot of time. Wonderful country and all that but couldn't organise a root in a brothel. 

I climbed the banking late Sunday afternoon back in 2009, noone cared. You will be surprised how steep it is! 

Yeah I'll be going (for the 10th time :-).

 

If you're going to Milan first, on Sunday at least you can catch another train straight to the circuit and avoid stopping at Monza.

However catching the 'special' train back after the race on Sunday is pretty hectic due to the amount of people trying to squeeze on, so we prefer to use the shuttle bus instead.

 

If you get to Monza station get the 'black line' (linea nera) shuttle bus to the circuit. There will be staff selling tickets next to where the shuttle stops (5 euro return). This gets you to Monza park where it's ~30 minute walk to the entrance for the pit straight. This is where the fun starts ;-)

 

Previously you could just walk straight into the circuit without anyone giving a ****, but from 2017 onwards they adopted a strict security check. Details on the following page.

So leave your "rigid rod" at home LOL and be prepared for a long queue to enter the gates. Last year it was peeing down with rain on Saturday and we got soaked while queuing to get in. I'm hoping they will have learned from last year and made the process of searching bags more efficient, but hey this is Italy so probably not (I do love Italy really BTW).

 

If you want to take a drinks bottle with you, I suggest you take a spare bottle cap in case if they confiscate it. Although I see they're now allowing camel bags in so it might be worth investing in one of those.

 

Once you're in though it's fine and you'll have a great time! :-) Suggest you take advantage of the roaming grandstand access during Friday practice and check out one or more of the corners.
