If McLaren partner up with ECR this time so that they can run without the Honda contractual factor rearing its ugly head, I smell a good chance of the crown being completed.

Would make sense to partner up given that ECR have lost their title sponsor

This will be his first race start in which he has the potential to be a Triple Crown winner come the chequered flag*.
I'd would be cool to say it's been a while since this situation has occurred but technically speaking Montoya was in with a chance at this years Le Mans had things got very crazy indeed.
*Just a technicality that this is assuming he qualifies

No rest of the season, Indy only.

I'd like to see them run the race on the Indy road course too.

Maybe. But consider, ECR challenges for the pole. Andretti wins . . .

This year, ECR came pretty close to the win. Carpenter was one of the few to keep Power honest (with Kanaan for a while).

Wow what a pleasant experience to read this thread without the first post being Leclerc whishing Alonso to die in a fire or something like he usually does.

Yes, although, as always when discussing this matter, Montoya merely won the Monaco GP, not the F1 WDC.
Jacques Villeneuve (who never won the Monaco GP, but did win the F1 WDC) came very close when he finished 2nd at Le Mans in 2008, on the lead lap!

McLaren Racing going to Indy as its own entry, setting up a separate team internally. Asked Zak Brown if that meant only one car or maybe more, said he doesn’t want to comment on that yet... #IndyCar

Ah yes, the old 'is the F1 leg of the Triple Crown Monaco or the WDC?' question

Close. Ask Michael about "close."

Great to see McLaren setting up their own team. I doubt they'd be doing it if they weren't going to join IndyCar full-time in the near future.
Though the 500 in a new team must be a bigger challenge for Alonso than joining a top organization like Andretti.

Any word on the rest of the season? Fantastic news that he’s back, but after flirting so closely with running the whole shebang, it’s kind of disappointing that he’s quietly distanced himself from doing so.
He already said a while ago clearly and not quietly that he would not do 2019 full season as it would be too much for him next year

It's quite a new question actually. Always used to be WDC.

Bye bye F1 McLaren racing team. It's been nice knowing you up until 2012. Hopefully all goes well in your new venture...i guess that was the master plan after all eh Mr Zak Brown!

He deleted the tweet, so it's legit stuff. Either Andretti or Harding as partners.
Ah fanks!..One learns something new every day eh! Was never aware that a quickly deleted tweet automaticaly renders it factual!

He hasn't. He's said recently he still wants to do a full season at some point, but that it just isn't gonna happen in 2019.

I've always heard it's Monaco, but Alonso has both, so it's all good.

Thanks for the quick replies, but this is really on me as I’m lost in that strange confusing reality that is the Indycar offseason and have no idea what year it is. I thought this was a 2020 confirmation and forgot that 2019 was next year, not ‘this year’ yet.He hasn't. He's said recently he still wants to do a full season at some point, but that it just isn't gonna happen in 2019.
So yeah, I actually already knew that he wasn’t doing the whole season in 2019. I was wondering about news for 2020 and not realising that 2019 and 2020 are in fact not the same season.
So padon me, and carry on!

500, WEC ... yeah I wouldn't be surprised to see something else thrown in the mix. Bathurst 12H and Daytona 500 are calling your name, my Asturian friend.

In IndyCar, you mean? I think it depends a lot on if McLaren is doing more races. If McLaren is working towards a full-time program for 2020, then I might see them entering more races in preparation for the upcoming seasons, and I'd imagine they'd like to put Fred in the car (unless Fred declines a future opportunity to race in IndyCar full-time and McLaren has another candidate for the fulltime seat.)
In other series? Surely to complete the WEC season, maybe stay in Toyota for the 2019-20 season as well. (Which might complicate things with a possible 2020 IndyCar program.) Then there are these NASCAR rumors, like racing at the Daytona 500. Though I'm not sure going to NASCAR makes much sense for an open-wheel guy, we've seen it so many times (JPM, Dario, Allmendinger, Danica).
