Damn! You have had a rough life.

Nah, I've recovered well enough that I am the only one that still notices it :) When I used to have a sticky memory, heard things once, and remembered it. I now need to go through stuff 3-4 times to remember it. The fine motorics in my right arm have never been an issue, never been handy or an artist in my life. I would've liked to learn guitar and piano, but hey, you cannot have it all. And the speaking thing is also only noticeable for myself, as my main language works fine as I speak it every day, and people just put my English down to not being a native English speaker, even though it frustrates me.
After all I have a job, a better half, a home, both my parents, all my uncles, aunts, cousins etc. alive. It's not been a rough life. I should've worn a helmet when biking, but that wasn't "cool".

I've felt the nervousness of sitting in a kart 7 months after the accident, thinking "ok, the doctors adviced me not to... I haven't done any physical training for 7 months. Can I do this?" and succeded. I've had the enormous happiness from overcoming it, and getting a 2nd place just a year after it happened. I cannot, and will not complain. I've had, and I have a great life!

Enough about me though!

It's not something I talk a lot about really, it's all a bit "oooh, feel a bit sorry for me", when in reality it's not. I had great experiences in racing, I still do some racing when I have the chance (did a 6hr race a month ago), but as #77 was my breakthrough number, I felt #86 needed some explanation, not just "another number I had at least 1 podium with".

It is also unlucky in China as it sounds similar to the word for "death". The luckiest numbers there are 8 and 88.

Nice!

69, to shake up the establishment.

I always remember Nicky Hayden's reasons for picking that number - (paraphrasing) "you can still identify it when my bike is upside down".

27 is always the number I choose if I play racing games. Mostly because I was born on Sept 27th and itโ€™s also a little homage to GV.

I would choose 8 if available. That's the number I had in class register for in my primary and secondary school for 9 years. It was the number I was identifying myself with during my adolescence. As later in my life no other number would be of any particular significance to me, I think I would go with 8.

As 8 is right now taken by Grosjean (LOL, I hadn't even remembered before I checked) I have no idea what I would go with. 88 seems to be taken too (by Kubica for 2019, according to this https://en.wikipedia..._driver_numbers ). Tough luck. :drunk:

I raced with 27 whenever I could, but often going into a new series that number was already taken. I always wanted 27 because of Gilles, my boyhood hero, but two other people I have always rated and admired also ended up running with this number - Casey Stoner and Hulkenberg - so this number will always be very special to me.

When 27 wasn't available I raced with 4, 36, 44 & 55 for no particular reason & 888 (Craig Lowndes)

Once upon a time I was young enough, and good enough to race with the number 1 for a season  - oh for those days.

I would go with #97. I have a thing for prime numbers and I like number 7.

If that would be taken, #73 or #17 would do.

Previously I had difficulties treating numbers equally because of some nonsense in my mind but I finally succeeded to not care about numbers anymore and all of them look the same to me right now. All being said if someone did point a gun into my head and forced me to choose a racing number I would go for number Four. (The number that I feared the most previously)

5, 7, or 9. 5 seems to follow my wife everywhere she goes, 7 for me. 9 has been a favourite number of mine for ages.

Since 5 and 55 are taken, I'd go with 15. No real reason, other than I've always liked 5. Maybe that's because of Mario's championship in '78.

Why? This guy. Granted, I'd probably end up cursed with all the potential but none of the deserved results but alas. Loved watching him growing up.

I've run the #99 on several karts and cars (car - singular) of mine in honor of Greg Moore.

The shine was taken off it somewhat when Sutil ran it in F1. Meh.

The number of my house growing up and it can replace the E and S in my surname for branding!

Really annoyed me that I couldn't use it in F1 2018 this year with Sirotkin running it...

Who are those people? Its a racing forum, not a "naming random people" forum.

Anywho, #33 is my number. Started using it in the Microprose game Grand Prix 2 with the editor. Didnt want to mess up the racing numbers/drivers/teams of the 1994 season grid. But thought that the Pacific team deserved better. So I always did overwrite the Pacific slot with my own team. Hence getting Belmondo's number and have been using it ever since. It was my number at sporting events like during some early days karting and in my basketball team. Strange how innocent things like this can evolve into something that you still do some 20 years after.

I would take #16 because it's my date of birth and has always been my "lucky" number.

In the F1 mobile game, I use #61 as Leclerc has #16, but #61 is also appropriate for me as it's the house number that I grew up in.

81 would be my date of birth, and 18 the housenumber I grew up in :D

Most likely 46 - Rossi.

Though I took 51 in F1 career mode, but more because I raced with pseudonym with initials S.I.

Indeed. & VY was the ultimate playmaker...

Vince??!?

My pick for UT QB would be Major. Just for the name.

Major? Cool name, but VY did things Major could only dream about, & is easily the best Texas QB ever and one of the GOATs ever in college football. Just off the top of my head I can think of at least 6 Texas QBs I'd rank ahead of Major. Major was very smart & savvy, but small, slow (esp after the knee injuries), weak-armed, & kind of a dick by most accounts. Major in his prime probably wouldn't start ahead of current Texas QB Sam Ehlinger.

Major does have a certain subset of very devout fans (many here call them 'cultists') despite really inconsistent play when he was at UT. Kind of a 'great white hope' sort of thing. But his star has faded quite a bit in Austin after the intern fiasco and some coaching blunders.

The thread title is "What is your racing number and why?"

The 'why' needn't have anything at all to do with racing.

Bingo.

Yeah, I'd only choose numbers that add to 3, 6 or 9. 7 is my overall expression number, and it's been near to me my whole life. And it's the number of one of my favorite Tarot cards: The Chariot. That would be amazing if used in a Racing context.

2 is a feminine number of sharing, and is also the number of one of myother  fav cards: The High Priestess.

So, Expression ( 7 ), Sharing ( 2 ); giving back to the world through my passion. Masculine and Feminine in union.

The main reason though is that I have my Sun at 7 degrees Virgo and in my 2nd House. Also, I have a prominent 72 degree angle aspect between my Virgo Mars and Cancer Jupiter natal placements. That's called a Quintile: one fifth ( Martian number ) of a full 360 circle. That thing would mirror success if expressed outwardly.

The main Motorsport reason is that I have a soft spot for the history behind #27. But I'd wear it backwards, make it a more personal homage.

It's also 3 ( my main number ) added to 69. Ayoooooo

This is also the 27th page of this thread. Ayoooooo x2

Mind.  Reeling.

#53, because I happened to be in the 53rd board of my study association. Nothing to do with Herbie, but I did root for Rossi for the brief time he was in F1. I even took a selfie with the number at the Singapore GP pit when I visited in April 2016 (the numbers were still all above the pitboxes).

Used to be #5.

schumacher%20ferrari%20F310B%20in%201997

Then it became #22 as that was the number I got in the Grand Prix 3 league (send in your replays! Good old times.) I participated in around ... 2001 or so.

I stuck with that for a while in games like Live for Speed, but I don't think I've had much reason to pick a number in the last couple of years. Most racing games I try these days don't even seem to offer the option, and I don't really mind either way.

I've always liked the number 4. (4 seasons, 4 years between Olympics and World Cups, 4 majors in golf and tennis each year, 4 wheels on a car)

However as Lando has #4, I usually go with #80 as my year of birth on the F1 game.
