With that driver lineup it really becomes a shining beacon of racing goodness in those dark winter times.

Prototype Challenge race is tomorrow at 12:15PM EST/ 5:15PM GMT. It will be on IMSA.TV and IMSA Radio.

I think the schedule looks a little funky - like they have merged some of the race weekend sessions in there (IMSA Weathertech Qualifying??)

But, i deduce that the main class is on track:

FRI - 1600-1715, 2030-2200 GMT
SAT - 1500-1600,2030-2145, 2345-0100 GMT
SUN - 1530-1630, 1945-2045 GMT

Did practise start this early last year? I don't recall there being a weeks long preparation before the race.

It's a bit like when F1 starts practicing in February while the first race is mid-March.

This is like a glorified test, they'll be back again towards the end of the month.

If my memory serves me right, Sunday's qualifying session is a competition for the best pit boxes during the January 24–27 race weekend. The race weekend will have another qualifying session for grid position.

Right, thanks. Thankfully F1 properly calls it testing.

 

Strange that this didn't register at all for me last year; oh well! Always good to see these kinds of cars on track, even if it's just for testing practise.

The website also covers a lot (basically all) of sportscar racing in general, plus Indy. Their twitter account always have a reminder 10 minutes before the session starts, definitely worth a follow.

Already 1.5 seconds faster than what they were at this stage last year. Combination of updated BoP and decent tires.

On a related note, there's a Ford v. Ferrari- movie set to release this summer (initial date June 28, 2019), so maybe they're planning some promotional work?

Isn't this the sort of event where United Autosports would normally come out to play   

LMP2 has no chances of fighting for the overall win so they won't be in IMSA this year.

I’d be amazed if Fernando’s car doesn’t win given how IMSA races are often a bit... um... manipulated. No doubt there will be a four car shoot out for the lead from a yellow with four laps to go like there is every year.

I mean I get why - it's 50 years of IMSA and all that - but we've had a glut of them in recent years. I think the main source of my annoyance is that they're principally used for big races like Le Mans, the Indy 500 and such...the very same races that often made the original liveries iconic in the first place. So you're denying the possibility to create liveries that will become iconic in their own right. 

 

I'm not against throwback liveries full stop, but please, can we use them in moderation?

Focused Rossi and Pagenaud in garages. Nice chat with a Joest principal. Changes to stuff you dont see, details details. Ive decided I want them to win.

As a Rallyfan and Sportscar fan, why on earth have they moved the Monte to clash with the Rolex 24?? Absolutely boneheaded decision.

I'm please my little Mazda are showing some speedy promise. I've wanted them to win for a while now.

 

But I'd also quite like to see WTR and guests win it. Then I also like Pagenaud and Rossi so either of the Penske cars would be welcome. Or just anyone perhaps unexpected but no less deserving. So basically that'll be whoever wins. This is the kind of deal I cannot lose on
