Hamilton. He's fake in almost everything.

I don't think he's fake, I think he tries wayyyyy to hard to please everyone and say something but nothing, which is when you get accidents like "slums". Hence best fans, blessed its all simple stuff that is something but nothing around the track.

I'm surprised and slightly miffed both my childhood hero (Mansell) and my favourite driver of all time (Hamilton) appear on a lot of people's lists. I think the problem is they are both easily misunderstood and LH44 especially interpreted as disingenuous.

Anyway my List:

1. M Schumacher - Far too arrogant and got away with murder in AUS 94. Was crazy talented but had no class.

2. J Villeneuve - Too Cocky for his own good. Seems to pop up every few months to have a go at someone.

3. M Verstappen - Spoilt Brat who expects everyone to jump out of his way because he is the chosen one. Needs to grow up.

4. S Vettel - Less his personality but more the fact that he expects to treated in the same category as the greats when he won 4 titles in a Newey car with no opposition.

5. N Rosberg - Basically this one is for thinking he was in the same continent of talent as LH, or that he wasn't gifted the 16 title by reliability failures on the other side of the garage.

6. D Coulthard - For being Wet and never fighting to actually win the title. Everytime Ron said 'Let Mika past' he cow towed without a fight.

7. N Piquet - Basically a git who fluked 3 titles, was generally a bastard (Comments about Mansell's wife especially).

8. R Schumacher - For living off Micheal's coat tails....

9. A Prost - For all the Political skulduggery, getting Pole moved by Balestre at Suzuka 90, for stealing Mansell's chassis in Silverstone 90 etc

Is surprised Hamilton and Mansell are on ANYONE's list, then gives a list including most of the top 10 successful drivers of all time?

Sorry, do you hate people for being amazing and yet humble?

I do well not hate but people who are so good at what they do that pretty much everyone knows they are amazing without ever needing to blow their horn annoy me to no end because you cant really fault them for anything... Forces one to face his own mediocrity at its full brunt, cant even hide behind 'well at least I am a decent guy' excuse...

Lol, I can just imagine the reaction on here if Lewis came out with a Clarkism like "why is everyone else driving so slowly?"! Suddenly, a humble lack of understanding of one's own talents would be a disgraceful and disrespectful arrogance. Yes, I know Clark was speaking in private and was probably being genuine.

Ascari took being asked to do an Indy rookie test rather better though.

I'm puzzled.  Is cow towing some bizarre sort of rural sport?  I know country folk are a bit weird, so maybe this fits in with cheese rolling, dwile flonking and morris dancing?

Cheese rolling is in no way weird.

(Disclaimer - I live within a mile of the hill and my oldest friend's wife is the aunt of the current Lewis Hamilton of cheese rolling, but my opinion is in no way biased).

It's funny how with a best driver thread, I always have a good ponder over all pf the options. Over the years, however, a select few have really, really annoyed me for one reason or another that are always easier to remember. ;)

Michael Schumacher

Eddie Irvine

Lewis Hamilton

Sebastian Vettel

Romain Grosjean

Paul Di Resta

Jacques Villeneuve

Juan Pablo Montoya

David Coulthard (as a driver at least)

I had a sudden memory - Markus Winkelhock actually led the 2007 Euro GP in the rain in his first, and only, F1 start. Now that's annoying. If someone as anonymous as Winkelhock could find himself in a seat - in a race - and actually lead - Why can't I?!?!? (Yeah, I know the answer...don't bother reminding me...)

And as luck would have it - I still have this beauty saved off... for obvious reasons. Now I ask, how many other lunatics would have anything related to the Spyker F1 team lying around their hard drives???Winkelhock.jpg

It is, we do it here in the Netherlands all the time.

Ok, I'll add something to this topic. I have a standing spat with 3 personalities that actively compete in the 60+ championships I follow annually.

1 is one of the all time greats. 1 is an abhorrently lucky slice of bread. 1 is an Instagram meltdown menace to Racing sanity.

Probably says more about Marko's mindset than anything else.

Montoya's point that the gearing was simply off and that overtaking was therefore all but impossible sounds, well, like something you see in pretty much every racing series from time to time.

Is surprised Hamilton and Mansell are on ANYONE's list, then gives a list including most of the top 10 successful drivers of all time?

Well I was just giving my honest opinion. It is interesting how some people see the same drivers entirely differently, Hamilton is seen by either Genuine or completely fake, Mansell as a determined fighter or a whiner.

Similarly with my List everbody has qualities they value more, to me qualities like dishonesty, cheating, pettiness will always rile me and overshadow any talent however great. Others are less bothered by the negatives and will always admire the Schumacher/Verstappen's for their talent despite their downsides.

Also the top guys are always to make more of an impression either positively or negatively. Tarso Marques or Zsolt Baumgartner might be really annoying but I have never seen enough of either to notice!!!

He was an F1 driver, and so qualifies to be listed (as we are talking about "all time" here). All that remains is to decide whether annoying behaviour years after the driving career qualifies. If it does, he is right up there and could even unite the forum on this issue.

Yep was gonna say Ticktum. I hardly even follow feeder series so the amount of times I've already encountered that arrogance of his speaks volumes.

I don't remember ever thinking "I hope this guy doesn't make it to F1" on character alone.

I will have to check the records but I'm pretty sure he didn't finish last in every race he competed in and at some point will have finished in front of every other driver on the grid (he won a few races) so that statement can't be true  :p

Räikkönen?

I mean the recent Räikkönen. The one from the last three or four years.

This not-very-talkative "I don't know"/"I don't care" behaviour is "exciting"/"adorable"/"capricious", if the performance is at the same time top notch (2003, 2004 in a very bad car, 2005, 2006, 2007). Like when Muhammad Ali told everybody that he is the best and the most handsome ever while having his genius years. Saying all that in 1980/81 would've been pathetic.

But having those attitude although almost not winning while driving in championship-capable cars (2017/18) is not cool.

I remember reading an interview with Ricardo Zonta where he described an incident in Melbourne 1999 where he'd come to dinner in the motorhome late because he was caught up in an interview or a debrief or something, sat down with his food which Villeneuve promptly snatched off the table and threw in the bin to "teach him some manners".

Imagine trying to play psychological games like that with your rookie team mate at a struggling new team and thinking that this is how you show leadership.

Imagine being Jacques Villeneuve.

I remember reading a while ago that Villeneuve stole Frentzen's lunch. However, looks like JV managed to be successul in destabilizing HHF, at least initially. That and considering some Patrick Head's harsh words, Frentzen must have thought that where the hell did he end up being...

Sauce?

I thought it was Damon Hills chicken he nicked back in '96. As for 'being Jacques Villeneuve'... he's on record saying he used to play mind games and went out of his way to destroy Frentzen.

The problem with Villeneuve is he's too honest. If you think the rest of these drivers are very different, particularly the World Champions, then I'd say your way off the mark.

They are selfish, ego driven bastards. Thats why they are champions. Thats why people like Sir Frank and Patrick hired 'those types'.

It ain't just Villeneuve.

I do not think that being honest to others about yourself being a nasty person is much better, if at all better than hiding the fact that you are a nasty person and letting people find out in their own time.

Do you honestly think that Mika or Kimi played these kind of games ? I think it is fair to say that many champions did, but I do not think that all of them did.

Schumi annoyed me at times for winning too much.

Alonso: animal impressions, down talking car/ up talking himself, 2007, whining, that thing with Massa, etc.

Hamilton: his fame seeking outside of F1 and the other “famous” guys he hangs out with.

Vettel: whining and not wanting to admit mistakes/change course.

Coulthard: mediocre driver talking s**t about drivers who beat him.

Senna: arrogant and sometimes dangerous.

Prost: appeared to like backdoor politics.

JV, Irvine: talk too much.

Massa, Barrichello: allowed team to screw them.

Verstappen: arrogant

Grosjean: for being too crazy and not being punished accordingly.

Magnussen: too arrogant for his speed.

Piquet Jr, Stroll, et al: riding on names/money.

In short, everyone can be annoying at times...

EDIT: TOTO OMG, he’s the champ of annoying.

Do you have any idea of what Kimi or Mika may have done behind the scenes? Of course not... because most people say nothing. Perhaps someone should ask David Coulthard...

As I said - Jacques has always been too honest for his own good.
