Surviving 250F drivers

Many years ago I started a topic in which was recorded those drivers who you could go to be given an impression of what it was like to drive a 250F in anger. This list excluded Historic Racing. Naturally enough Stirling Moss, Roy Salvadori, Jack Brabham were included but so were many others who had been forgotten or who had never been heard of, but who had lined up somewhere or other in a 250F.

But now surely there could not be any left.

Is that the case?

I was unable to locate the picture but as a Maserati supporter I remember how sad I felt to see the 250F  so obviously out dated in that race. How times had changed since 1957 when I had watched Jean Behra dominate  much of the race in his Works car. .

Sadly for some old Codgers like me JoBo you are right. For some of us progress isn't always a good thing! .

It s a little eerie to think that one of the only two 250F drivers still alive lives  only 30 minutes away from me. Reg Hunt was born in Manchester in 1923 and is still as sharp as a tack.

It may not meet the exact perimeters of the thread, Colin Hyams is still about. But he had the A6GCM in the early 60s. He appears on Bob W's motor racing photos - Australia FB site occasionally.

The recent passing of Jim Russell meant the loss of another 250F driver. He drove the Gilbey Engineering car in the Glover Trophy Race at the 1957 Easter Goodwood meeting.
