Here is an oddity - does anybody know any more?

B.A.R.C. SW, Thruxton Sprint, Nov 2, 1969.

"John Anstis (4.7 AC Cobra)

barely beat C. Brown, who drove

his unwieldly  4.2 Ford-engined

Turner with remarkable dexterity,

for second spot."

Motoring News, Thursday, November 13, 1969, Page 19.

Singer Owners Club Sprint, Castle Combe, 16th May 1970

"This class was eventually won by Brown's 4.2 litre V8 Ford powered Turner"

Motoring News, Thursday, June 11, 1970.

A Turner V8 competed at the Weston-super-Mare speed trials in 1972.

The car was driven by a Geoff Brown. 2nd in class in a time of 16.00 sec.

Motoring News, Thursday, October 12, 1972.

Geoff Brown was from the Bristol area, worked for the Bristol Aeroplane Company and was an enthusiastic member of the Bristol Aeroplane Company MC (now Bristol Pegasus MC), serving as competition secretary for some years. He ran the Turner in all sorts of events (including rallies, I believe) from around 1958 onward. It was originally fitted with a Vauxhall Velox 6-cyl engine. Geoff later fitted a 2.5-litre Ford Zephyr motor, and then the Ford V8, which I believe ended up as a 4.7-litre. Our club archivist and occasional TNFer Pete Stowe will know more, I’m sure.

Pete has pointed me to this page on the Turner Register site which features some photos of the car in Geoff’s hands:

Thanks. Gurston Down opened 1967 - so the picture which clearly shows triple SUs, presumably fitted to a Zephyr motor - must date from 1967-1969 prior to the fitting of the Ford V8.

Can anybody place the car at Gurston?

This is very interesting it is a very early Turner - according to Peter Tuthill's Turner Sports Car book this is No2 built Dec 1950 (starting off looking like an Allard). Whilst not much of the original car is left it was reported to be in Brittany. Geoff fitted a Nordec body which looks like the Turner Mk1.

If it was reported to be in Brittany it was presumably with multiple Turner owners Pete & Maggie Smith who were previously in Germany, unfortunately I heard that Pete died a few years ago.

Could this be two different cars with the number plate transferred?

Peter Tuthill's books says it is the same car - the Nordec body looks like a Turner Mk1.
