A couple of issues I've been having.

The first is a long standing one. When posting from my Windows 10 laptop using Chrome (V. 75.0.3770.100) I have all sorts of problems when copy/pasting quote blocks. It is a consistent problem. The first attempt to paste (either by right-clicking and selecting paste or by Ctrl+V) appears to have no effect. The second paste does work. However, I find that hidden in the ether of the bottom of the text box is a second copy of the quote, but it is completely inaccessible and invisible until I hit post, after which it appears at the bottom of my post. This isn't usually a problem as the multi-quote function provides the functionality I need for the most part, but there are occasions when I do need to copy/paste quote blocks such as when issuing warnings. The only way round it I have found is to do the following. Before posting, I must place my cursor at the end of my post, and then hold Delete, which will then drag the extra quote out of the ether and slowly remove all of it.

The second is that even the standard youtube links are not automatically embedding.

Here's an example posted as plain text straight from my browser address bar:

I know that mobile links won't work, but I've always been told that the standard link should work.

Well that looks fine to me!

I'm no expert on Chrome, but maybe it's a misbehaving extension? Have you tried Chrome's incognito mode? Cleared history? Deleted and reset Autosport cookies?

Looks ok to me too PaYR. Incidentally, on mobile, just delete the m. Before the word youtube and it will embed normally.

I need to test this:

OK. So it embeds if you paste as plain text. Well at least that works. I'll experiment a bit for the quote block thing.

Just select the posted link and click on the unlink icon (the one that looks like a broken chain)  in the tool bar, it's been an issue in both Firefox an Chrome for me.

The stuff around trying to respond to opined quoted stuff happens to:me too, like you describe. Also using Chrome.

Yes I’d worked that part out already. But thanks.

Just a thought on the copy/paste problem. Try quoting the post in-thread, right click in the blank area below the quote, click 'select all' and then do Ctrl+C. In Firefox and Waterfox that picks up all the formatting - although when you paste it into another reply box it doesn't show initially; all you get is 'Quote' and the quoted text. But the whole thing shows up in preview and in your final post.

I've seen that happen and it's not the issue I'm having. On this post, I've done what you said. I've also had to double paste to get the quote block to appear.

I have tried a single paste on this one.

Edit: I could not see that block until it posted.

I've noticed the YouTube issue too although it may well be Chrome trying to be clever as all we're doing is pasting into a text box on here. It's automatically parsing it as a link rather than plain text.

My other long standing issue with quotes is quite often I can lose everything I've typed after pasting a quote into a post. I'm not sure if that's what is being referred to? It just disappears when I hit post.

If you click the switch button on the top left you shouldnt have any problems with quoting/copying.

No that hasn't worked at all.

That seems to have resolved my issue with pasting from an external source into a quote and then adding content at the end. I'll try to remember to do that moving forward. Thanks!
