Not sure if this is the proper place to post this but I received my copy of Robert Dick's new book entitled "Auto Racing in the Shadow of the Great War" that deals with the cars on American Speedways, 1915-1922. Of course I have not read it yet but perused it and it looks to be well researched and well written. Kudos for all of the hard work to Robert.

Also Jim O'Keefe and Sarah Morgan-Wu finished their work entitled Peugeot L45-01 on the Peugeot that was raced by Lutcher Brown, then by the Book Brothers (De Palma Manufacturing Co) then it ended up in the Lindley Bothwell Collection before selling in the last few years for quite a tidy sum. Kudos as well to Jim and Sarah.

Many of us can appreciate all of the hard work that goes into documenting this great era. Thanks to both.

That's great news! Both books look like must-haves, although I always thought that O'Keefe and Morgan-Wu were working on a complete Peugeot-in-the-US history. Anyway, it should finally settle the unnecessary confusion about the Bothwell Peugeot that was perpetuated for years by interested parties, perhaps even against their own better judgment.

Thanks Jim. Is Robert's book illustrated please, and is there a release date for the Peugeot book?

We seem spoiled with books about early racers and makes at the moment? But I am still saving the £$ to buy the new Ballot tome!

Michael, Jim and Sarah always seem to be working on great topics from the era which for the guys that appreciate the era is a good deal. Of course Robert seems to be always tackling great topics from the era on both sides of the Atlantic.I agree that it is beneficial to history to try and get the history of the Peugeots correct. When the article "Resta's Chariot" came out years ago, I tried to argue to those that listened that it was not Resta's car but the old Brown/Book Peugeot and was a great piece in its own right (and the 7.2 million dollar sale price seems to reinforce that sentiment IMO).

When I spoke years ago to the caretaker of the car, I asked about the whole Resta claim and put in my two cents. I had spoken to Mrs Herbert Book about the car back in the 80s (she actually told me she made the trip to Indy in 1919 with Art Klein as her husband was already at the track with the Detroit Special) and I always felt with its association with De Palma alone (not to mention others) made it a pretty special piece. There are not too many cars sitting around with that kind of provenance.

Steve there are some pictures in Robert's book and of course a bunch of great text and glossary information. Definitely worth it. As to Jim and Sarah's book it was self published but I can ask about its availability.

I sent a PM to Michael in that O'Keefe/Morgan-Wu are no longer associated with Racemaker Press but anyone needing to contact them can do so by email. If anyone needs their email or contact info, you send me a PM and I will forward the same to you.

Was the Peugeot book by O'Keefe & Morgan-Wu finally published?

Thanks!

Thanks for your feedback!

Apparently the book was published, but haven't been able to find much information about it —unfortunately, no entries on Google.

I'll accept if you won't, but can you elaborate?

Usually, if there is a hold-up of a book or article over one individual car, that means that the truth may cause someone to lose £££ in relation to that car...

Does not make sense in this case. Every man and his dog know that the car has been misrepresented. A quick google shows that Bonhams sold the car in 2017 with the problem specifically addressed as:

"The Lindley Bothwell Peugeot L45 has a clear, unambiguous history of owners, from Peugeot through owners Lutcher Brown and Frank Book, and drivers Ralph Mulford and Arthur H. Klein to Lindley Bothwell.

Heck, the Bothwells even tried to tell the world it was a 1913 model!!

I have a copy of the book. I cannot recall how I obtained it other than it was from the publisher via details provided through this forum. It is a self published A4 sized hardback. 121 pages. Published in 2019. About a half is a text only history with race entry list, followed by black and white photos filling most of the rest of the book, with colour photos from when the car was auctioned at the back.

Is Racemaker still going?  There are no recent books on its website.

They are alive and well. Not a prolific publisher, last new book was Lost in Time: Formula 5000 in North America.

Does anyone know what ever happened to books on Duesenberg racing cars and the larger "Peugeot Racing in America", involving Mr O'Keefe and/or Racemaker Press?

It has **** all to do with "politics," serious or otherwise, but rather one regarding the issue of integrity. I give up. End of discussion on my end.

I still want the book.

I have been unable to discover where I bought this book from, but if I do find out I will forward the information to those interested. Racemaker are a great publisher - I have some of their books which are of great value and quality, and there are at least a couple more I plan to buy once funds allow (it is hard to catch up and keep up with all of the great books being published!). I too hope that books about the Duesenberg racing cars and Peugeot racing cars in America will eventually see the light of day.

Some posts have been removed because of possible legal implications. Other associated posts have gone as well as they no longer made sense. Please think carefully before making any further comments on the situation regarding the Peugeot L45 book. Thanks.
