Hello,

I would like to have a look about the development of the safety in Formula. It's easy to find Formula drivers which had fatal accidents. It's very fortunate that there aren't that much fatal accidents today.

But what about a list of drivers injured in a Formula One Word Championship race (and missed out at least 1 race)?

2010s

2016: Fernando Alonso missed one race after his crash in Australia.

2011: Sergio PĂ©rez missed one race after his crash in Monaco

=> 2 drivers, 2 races

2000s

2009: Felipe Massa missed 7 races after his crash in Hungary.

2009: Timo Glock missed 2 races after his crash in Japan

2007: Robert Kubica missed 1 race after his crash in Canada

2005: Ralf Schumacher missed 1 race after his crash in USA

2004: Ralf Schumacher missed 6 races after his crash in USA

2003: Ralph Firman missed 2 races after his crash in Hungary

2001: Heinz-Harald Frentzen missed 1 race after his crash in Canada

2001: Luciano Burti missed 3 races after his crash in Belgium

=> 8 drivers, 23 races

1990s

1999: Michael Schumacher missed 6 races after his crash in Great Britain

1999: Ricardo Zonta missed 3 races after his crash in Brazil

1997: Olivier Panis missed 7 races after his crash in Canada

1995: Ukyo Katayama missed 1 race after his crash in Portugal

1994: Karl Wendlinger missed 11 races after his crash in Monaco

1994: Andreas Montermini missed 11 races after his crash in Spain

1993: Alessandro Zanardi missed 4 races after his crash in Belgium

1992: Christian Fittipaldi missed 3 races after his crash in France

1990: Marton Donnelly missed 2 races after his crash in Jerez

=> 9 drivers, 48 races

Does someone have a list for the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, too?

Just a wild guess, but I'm going to say no. No, they don't.

Moss missed 3 races in 1960 when his Lotus decided to add lightness in Burnenville.

Any such list for the 1950's/60's would be a pretty long one. In 1952 for example Fangio missed almost an entire season.

Ralf Schumacher also skipped Italy 2003 after a crash in free practice. Giancarlo Fisichella skipped France 2002 for the same reason. Also, Jenson Button, Monaco 2003 and Mika Hakkinen, Australia 1995.

if we include testing crashes, then we also have Alonso 2015 and Lehto 1994.

I'm not sure the figure of 2 races missed quite captures the Martin Donnelly one. You should perhaps designate career ending crashes separately.

That might include Jacques Laffite...

Although this doesn't answer the opening post, it relates to the thread title: Would The Powers That Be let someone race in F1 in a similar fashion to what JYS did with his arm in a cast after his Jarama F2 accident? (If so, it just goes to show that I haven't been following contemporary effone for a couple of decades...)
