This year’s Baskerville Historic meeting may well turn out to be the biggest so far, I’m looking forward to heading down to Tassie in a couple of months for what should be a great time! (Fingers & toes crossed for the weather!!)

Have a great time down there boys! Hope it all goes well. Interesting to see a Tapping (Dean?) behind you Stuart - no doubt related to Chris Tapping (Elfin Aero in attached shot). Other shot is 50 years ago and relates to the McCormack line up

on the grid shot. So good to see all those cars on the hill and a good crowd back at my home track.3885-K-Carosi-65-lo.jpg1334-H-JMac-69-lo.jpg

Yep, that was Dean. Good race that one, except some TOOL (me) missed a gear on the last corner of the last lap...

Just in case anyone's interested in taking their race car!!!

Baskerville Historics 2019 - 5 days track time
shared between
Baskerville (from Thursday 19-to Sunday 22 September )

and Symmons Plains for Mainlanders on Monday 23 September.

https://baskervillehistorics.com/

Get on down there and check for yourself if the words of the great recently departed Niki Lauda (in describing his decision in Japan in 1976) have any application in Tassie!

“The .... track in Japan (read here Baskerville/Symmons ) was completely new territory to me. I would be inclined to describe it as fast but not extremely difficult; I would even admit that it was a track particularly suited to Ferrari.......”

So, whether you’ve been Marching down for years or whether you wanna En-sign up for a run around the Hill for the first time, then ring Jazz at Travel With A Cause https://www.twac.com...rit-of-tasmania and she’ll do the Footwork for you if you wanna book your Cosworth powered Amon, Brabham, Benetton, De Tomaso, Elfin, Lola, Matra, Penske, Shadow, Surtees, Williams or even a Wolf onto the Spirit of Tasmania https://www.spiritoftasmania.com.au

She’s just booked my Elfin Monocoque and tow car going down on 15 September and returning to Melbourne on 24 September, night sailing each way with a bed in a four berth share cabin there and back for $1500 all up. (I reckon that's pretty cheap for a race car rig Bass Strait Crossing!!)

I don't think Meecams is yet an entry option for wanna be race drivers - so drop Donald Potter a line on dcpotter@bigpond.com or text 0447 315 114 or Bronwyn Zuber on b.zuber@bigpond.com or text 0419 569 156 - they'll happily shoot you through an entry form!!

Or, here are the links from the MG Car Club of Tassie for the 2019 forms

Some interesting and varied intake systems on the early model Holdens at Baskerville today, triple SUs, triple Amals, single 4 barrel Holley, sidedraft Webers and fuel injection. At least 3 Highpower heads as well. Talking to owner of one he had a steel billet crank and was using Lancer Evo con rods .....

Brilliant today, apart from the wind! Not sure what the weekend will bring, might not be as good as today according to the forecasts. If I could post images directly to this forum, as I can to others, I would, but going through a 3rd party image host is too time consuming (hint to Mods) ....

No point hinting, it won't happen...

Just put them on Postimage, it's a breeze and we get to see your pics.

So can I post multiple images from Postimage, or just one at a time? I tried to do multiple but it didn't work.

Well, I would have been surprised if Peter Mather's car didn't make your list (green/yellow stripes), but whose car is XP9700 (1st shot) - looks amazing. Back in the day (late 60's) nearly everyone had triple Amals or SU's but there were a couple - John Taylor, Wayne Quinn and Trevor Grace who started with twin Strombergs. Gene Cook was the first to fit twin dual throat Dellortos in 1969 and I think it was Doug Young (in Cook's old car) who had 3 single Dellortos in 1970 or '71. Great shots Geoff, so many Highpower heads and such immaculate engine bays. Very impressive.

My favourite was the five Amals, on Kingsley Hibbard's 'early' Holden...

One at a time.

With the last change I gave up. And have lost quite a few pics on their site which made the third time that had happened with hosting sites

The two Webers on the 7 port head looks a little confusing.

One presumes there is only three throats being used?

The Repco with injection should really howl. Short intake,,, 5-8000rpm like the midgets did in period. Though efi?  Not in the 60s!!

The three Amals probably looks the most true period

The three 1 3/4 SUs are probably really too big for the engine, in period most used max of 1 1/2"

And not one Repco with the original 'kit' of two 1 3/4 SUs

With Longford being the Reims of the South, Baskerville is having a crack at being the Goodwood of the Antipodes!

Stunningly presented cars those elfins mate.  Thought I'd put up a few photos I took Saturday just for anyone's interest ....pretty average shots, & mostly rushed (I was with my two young blokes, so one eye was on them the whole time) I'm certainly not in Dads class as a photographer, so please keep that in mind !

Cheers

Mal.

Another victim of the pandemic. Such a pity.

There is South Aussies struggling to get refunds from travel arrangements who were coming to play with small Fords.

Very sad news indeed. Ive been working for 14 months on a new car for this event. But, the right decision. 2021 will be massive.
