That's a very insightful read

Not particularly. The problem with such countries has rarely, if ever, been about the average person on the street, but the regime in control. And every country in the world tries to hide it's problems and make itself look better when holding an international event.

If anything, my take from it was that she didn't want people forgetting the average person on the street or isolating an entire country, especially culturally, because of the people in power. Isolation doesn't solve problems - if anything it makes it worse.

As you say, every country in the world does it and no one here is apologising for the condemnable actions of KSA's rulers. I'm glad for Hazel's insight from her Ad Diriyah ePrix trip and for her sharing of it. That's why I thought I would share it here too.

I understand that FE and WEC have been trying to resolve date clashes in the calandars. WEC's Spa round was moved and according to e-racing365's Hartley signing article, a revised Season 6 calendar should be released in September.

I have a question. Geox Dragon uses Penske powertrain and team is run by Roger Penske's son Jay Penske. So who produces this engine: Penske's Ilmor or Jay himself?

Been trying to wrap my own head around this one over the last few seasons actually.

I’m pretty sure it’s I thought it was a collaboration between engineers from Dragon Racing and engineers from somewhere within the Penske Corporation. So the answer is kind of both? actually neither. I think thought it might be that Dragon produce them but with significant input/consultancy from Penske/Ilmor.

Interestingly, Mercedes HPP in Brixworth, which was born from Ilmor Engineering, will be where Mercedes design and build their FE powertrain.

I can’t really profess to be able to tell you with any certainty. I’ll keep digging/asking around though. Unless someone else knows....

I'll be honest, the lines are little blurred athrough the field and it's not quite as simple as 'who builds the engines?'.

Also depends on which aspect of the powertrain you're on about exactly. The cooling system is a hugely important part of the powertrain design and that can be fairly easily be designed and manufatured in house by all the teams, whereas motor design is more likely to be outsoured to a technical partner if it's a smaller outfit. There's inverters, transmission and software too, making up the overall powertrain pakage entered for homologation.

And then there's Jaguar, who say they made every major omponent in house and claim to be the first FE team to do so.

You mean motor, right? There is no engine in a Formula E car.

So, with imprecise terminology...

Look, it appears you have an agenda to pick at Formula E, from the post where you say they to slow to these posts where you imply questions about if these cars are actually constructed by their constructors.

Maybe spend your time on something constructive rather than destructive?

Powertrain ok? And I only wondered does Penske's Ilmor make them for Dragon nothing else.

So this is what I found

fe.png

and

"I am very pleased to have Brendon pilot one of our two entries in Season Six of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship," said owner of Geox Dragon & Penske Autosport.

"Brendon is a real racer. He has a unique combination of experience, intellect, and racecraft that will allow him to maximize the potential of the new Penske EV-4 powertrain.

"Most importantly, he shares our hunger, and our determination to take the fight to the incredible field of major manufacturers this season,” added the team boss.

So clearly it's all Dragon and Penske Autosport which isn't the one from Rogers.

I knew the branding with the Penske name was Jay's choice as the owner of the entity that entered the powertrain for homologation, but I thought it's developent did have something to do with the Penske Corporation, even if it is/was only a loose connection and/or is now no longer the case. Though it is possible I was getting mixed up with when Andretti did their own powertrain before BMW joined, which as far as I am aware did made use of one of Andretti Autosport's US based enigneering arms.

Edit: I was indeed wrong. Dragon has had no connection to Roger Penske's outfit. They comission the powertrain, have it designed and built and Jay enters it as a Penske.

Some different approaches to the potential WEC clashes:

Hartley (Dragon) will prioritise his WEC drive with Toyota if clashes remain

https://e-racing365....clashes-remain/

Bird has eliminated the problem with AF Corse exit - Molina takes his place.

https://sportscar365...gte-pro-roster/

And Jaguar are waiting on possible resolution of the clashes with the September calendar update

Sounded like WEC and FE are still working on resolving the clashes.  With just what, 6 WEC races, it really SHOULD be possible!!

Some of the insiders are still expecting the calendar clashes to be resovled in September. I hope they are right. It would make sense given the current field to NOT force them to choose one over the other.

Then there's also the school of thought that always avoiding clashes so drivers can double-duty limits growth prospects for FE. If you could out together a race at the perfect venue that would make even the biggers doubters say 'hmm fair enough' but the only date abvaialble clased with a WEC round... what do you do?

I'm not sure how much I subscribe to that though. It's a headache for sure and I do not envy the organisers.

So... if it's true that whoever from Bottas and Ocon does not get the F1 seat will get the FE seat, does that mean Mercedes will be announcing their F1 decision before then?

They are supposed to announce both Ocon and Bottas' future at the same time in August (though might be delayed)

I think Bottas is working on a plan B for F1, if the Mercedes drive doesn't come through. So I dunno if Merc would be able to announce him for Formula E any time soon.

Now, if they can only go back to LAP races instead of timed ones, and finally get rid of FanBoobs, they'll have made decent progress (although going to timed races was reverse progress to begin with, so that doesn't really count).

Good timing! I was thinking about that the other day. I have some time on my hands this weekend and can get that set up assuming no one admin-y objects. After all, there appears to be the demand for it...

I was assuming a similar set-up to the off-season F1 livery competition would be ok

Porsche to be unveiled on August 28th.

"Formula E Unlocked is a Twitch Plays game where the viewer guides Porsche works drivers Neel Jani and André Lotterer through a series of puzzles and challenges at the team’s home in Stuttgart, Germany. The game is said to last several hours."

I don't know if I'm just showing my age ever so slightly here but.... what is Twitch?
