New year, new helmets!

Rinus van Kalmthout (Veekay for otherlinguals who can't pronounce Dutch) has presented his helmet for his first IndyCar season:

I love it already. No go faster stripes, no swooshes. not to much banners. Now only if they hadn't got the aeroscreen, we could actually see it.

I actually think (hope) that in the age of the Halo/Aeroscreen, drivers will go back to simple design of 1 predominant color so that you can identify them at a glance.

If I look up Lammers' helmet it is not even close? Derek Bell had a very simple design with blue white red stripes going round on a white base. And he is almost 80 years old, I can forgive someone for not remembering a helmet not used for 30-40-odd years.

It's a mix of Arie Luyendijks helmet, his dad's and a hommage to the Dutch Lion. So, yeah.. this..

Proposal to FIA: When getting his/her first racing license, young racer has to register the colour(s) and pattern of his/her helmet that must stay the same for his/her whole career. Starting with helmet of any other design is not allowed. In case of emergency - all three spares dropped to floor, for example - plain white helmet can be used.

Within one season all patterns will be "patented". So, no way this would even work.

Right side is more Gijs van Lennep's final helmet - Bell had the blue over the red.

I don't generally like non symmetrical helmets but this is ok. I don't understand why the 21 is mirrored on the right rather than the correct way round though.

He got this helmet as a present 2 years ago from the HARC (historische auto ren club, historic auto race club in English). There is some resemblance.

Like all Red Bull helmets, it's both generic and messy. I'd like to see them at least let the drivers pick whatever colour they like. As mentioned above, Verstappen needs to go all orange. The entire crowd at Zandvoort will, after all.

In defence of Red Bull helmets, I liked Sainz's lid when he was briefly at Renault...

Gave off a sort of Francois Cevert vibe to it.

Expecting a nice helmet from a Red Bull driver might be more hopeless than counting on lots of overtaking in Monaco.

Hulks Sebs and even Lances weren’t that bad, with hulk being the most memorable.

Biggest thing for me is why does 90% of them need rings that go around the top.. enough already with the rings.

Then enough with the way way over complicated stuff Lando aside with his wacky colours.

Then add in, stop messing with everybraces and every few years. Design one and stay with it!

I dont know if it's a filter or my eyes, but this purple looks so dark from the distance that I can already see the struggle to keep the Mercedes drivers apart.

Edit: at least that makes the Monster Logo look less hideous.

Good mix of colours. Usual lines and shapes that F1 helmet designers seem to favour and never look great.

Hamilton’s new lid looks really good. Bit too busy around the chin area, but that’s hardly worth complaining about at this point. (Also, six stars!)
