Reminds me think of the old version of Cadbury’s Dairy Milk chocolate bars, back when it still had purple foil, so that’s a good thing.
it also makes me sing ‘Purple Ham, Purple Ham’ to the tune of Purple Rain.

That's cool. His best in many years IMO.

A lot of people are quoting Prince in reference to the helmet, but I think a more adequate caption based on what he's been doing these past few years would be "Purple REIGN".

The idea of it being purple and that being the colour of speed in modern f1 works for me

Red Bull helmets, they almost never look good.
I agree. Almost never, because I think Kvyat's lid last year was a good one.

To me Hamilton's helmet looks just as monstrous (pun intended) as Max' Red Bull helmet.

That's the least of it.
It's part of a bigger, pious theme. You know when the Pope whips out his purple cope? When he opens Lent. The blessed one is sending a message: sorrow and suffering awaits.
I wonder if the lion beats the pope then.

So far all the released F1 helmets are hideous.

Sainz lid looks quite good, via Youtube, English version starts at 2:20 if you don't speak Spanish like me!

But why put all those little swooshes and gaps and so on? Just go with a pure and simple de Angelis style...

Posted 13 February 2020 - 16:54
Yeah, the spikes and swooshes are a horrible hemlet disease, but kudos to McLaren (I guess) for getting rid of these damn halo helmet stripes around the top - those ruin a LOT. Although Norris still kinda has one, but at least it's not WHITE.

Lewis should have gone red and white in homage to his Jersey heritage.
I would swap the white with his signature yellow from his Mac days....

Fairly sure that's just last year's and he's using it for the shakedown. I'd be fairly disappointed with it if so, as he usually changes it up a little every year.

I really like Sainz's helmet, very cool and clean and I am always a bit of a sucker for national colours

I know it's the modern style but I just feel it's messy. I much prefer a simple design in strong colours.
In the past, driver's would be instantly recognisable; Patrese, Piquet, Prost, Senna, De Angelis, Tambay etc. Mostly simply designs with just a few colours.
Verstappen's helmet has all kinds of things going on, most of which nobody will ever notice, like those golden stripes between Red Bull and the Red Bull logo.
What's the point?
YMMV.

Well, they're both nice enough, but they are so alike it will be impossible to tell them apart. Luckily we have the halo so we'll never see them anyway

I guess as both are unlikely to see out the full season it doesn't matter what their helmets are like anyway.

Grabbed as many of the IndyCar guys' ones from the Media Day shoots. Bit haphazard as I didn't want to post them all separately. Not all the drivers had decent photos:

Ferrucci's is honestly one of the worst I've ever seen.
It's truly awful, isn't it? Even worse, it's asymmetrical and the back is covered in what I can only describe as American (or Austrian perhaps) flag tagliatelle.
I think Ericsson's is my favourite of the bunch. Also Sato gets points for sticking with the same design for all this time.
