it's interesting how both Ferrari and Red Bull seems to hav more rake this year.

(video of leaving the garage)

the nose is very narrow, compared to the last year's. the nose looks like McLaren, as well as bargeboard area.

The front wing looks to be placed muuuuch lower down to the track, nearly touching,... ouch! it's gonna be very fast...

Ferrari has gone RB in sidepods design, RB has gone Mercedes in sidepods design.

This RB looks quick but also looks on the edge for reliability.

It's way more intricate than what Ferrari did, and a clear evolution on last year's design.

Only time will tell if it works, but it clearly shows they're serious about getting that world title.

They all look the same to me :rotfl: Sidepods are sidepods. I wish I could see !

Yeah, when I see arrows pointing at the sidepod and coke bottle, I have absolutely no idea what I'm supposed to be looking at!

This car will be rapid in slow corners but not so much in the straights!

Even if the car has high drag (which you imply) it might be strong on the straights if Honda delivers a strong PU :)

A return to their higher downforce philosophy from the early 10's?

Or just a step away from the philosophy of introducing a fairly "bare" car to learn the concept's strengths and weaknesses only to add onto later with updates?

Anyway - the car design shows tremendous confidence in Honda. They're counting on a strong engine here.

Just curious, how can you tell this car is draggy/high downforce (which isn’t necessarily the same)?

Aerodynamic concept of a car gives clue about the direction of the team is taking.

Engine cover behind the airbox looks very bulky compared to the Ferrari.

That’s no answer to my question. What do you see that leads to that conclusion? Serious question I have zero knowledge about aerodynamic concepts.

It is my totally (un)professional opinion when I look at the car design and compare it to previous years. Previous years the car at presentation was pretty clean and bare, now there's little winglets and stuff everywhere. The bargeboards also look aimed at creating more downforce in stead of only ensuring a clean airflow.

TLDR: i don't know what the hell I'm talking about and it's mostly my "hopeful" bias that is doing the talking!

You have to put the warp drive somewhere.

Thanks Augurk, still not convinced this car is more draggy. The seemingly tighter package at the back should at least compensate a bit for extra downforce.

There’s no way of knowing the coefficient of drag. Sorry, you can’t look at a car and see if it’s draggy, especially on high take cars like a the RB and Ferrari. There’s so much more about controlling airflow for downforce then just flat surfaces. Just look at Ferrari barge boards...

Plus, it seems people all want the df Mercedes has at the cost of dragginess so it’s thebdelicate balance of the two and seems this year it’s all about corner traction over straight line speed.

Of course, Mercedes will go and flip that to their old ways and say we went for straight line so they don’t get close enough in corners. Lol.

This car has to be the narrowest cross section ever (sidepod to sidepod) under these rules. The crash structure extensions are like fishing rods!

sidepods comparison with last year, seem they extended the shoulder part with a less aggressive ramp but then trading it for the ramp being full sidepod width towards the center

Anything 2007/2008 is hideous, this is absolutely beautiful compared to that...
