Ocon has taken a few 'secrets' and other knowledge with him from Mercedes - apparently has been able to give input into this year's car despite only joining at post-season Abu Dhabi test
May explain what seems to be a Merc style nose

Cross-pollination of ideas is the way of the world since time immemorial. It would be daft not copying someone else's successful ideas...And nowt wrong with it unless infringing copyrights of course.

Under-playing expectations is one thing but this is some bad PR Renault could have done without. They say avoiding social media analysis is the reason for not showing their car yet have stirred up an unnecessary social media ridicule by doing a "fake" launch.
They should have either released the renders like many teams do or not other doing anything and launched the car in preseason testing instead they organize an event about something which does not exist in the event inviting unnecessary media scrutiny and social media ridicule. I am not going to speculate as to the competitiveness of the car just that the official noises coming from Renault appear to be one of having given up 2020 even before the season has begun.

At the presentation RIC said this https://www.formula1...Kl8JxsMw4P.html (he didn't see the car yet, but he knew that, on the front, a lot of work has been done on the nose, 'the structure', the design etc)
So only Ocon saw the car (renders of the lauch/wintertesting spec? or did he see the wind tunnel model, at a more advanced development stage?)

Mercedes mule or Renault perhaps and expectedly so... seems they wanted feedback on its comparison to what he was allowed to say to Renault and prob not allow via shrugs etc and body language.. considering they’ll stop pretty early on 2020 developing it’s prob all good but really surprised DR been so far removed from the factory considering he was suppose to the team leader and breathing fresh air into the team.. maybe it’s a French thing and how they approach team dynamics (not an insult jus I’m aware the French can do things ina very regimented way and self internal proud not looking for outside help) . still surprised..At the presentation RIC said this https://www.formula1...Kl8JxsMw4P.html (he didn't see the car yet, but he knew that, on the front, a lot of work has been done on the nose, 'the structure', the design etc)

How disappointing. I thought, from the teamwear, we were going to see 70's style flashes of white.

I can see only black and WHITE colours on the given pic.

The thing in motion with sound:

I feel there are lots of disappointed people here that the car is already running on track instead of waiting in Enstone still to be built.

They had these white elements in the teamwear for years now.

Good that they are running.

Even more? They already had the highest degree of rake in 2019. If I'm not mistaken that's what caused them aero issues in corners.

Don't think so. See RS19 (from 0:36):

After last year and the positive talk pre-season and lack of results during, no surprise and easy to see a change of strategy (less expectation, and over deliver). Optimistic side says I hope for Dan's and Renault's sake that they have found something and being super cagey with all the footage and pre-season events. And we may only see the full Renault package on day 5 & 6 of preseason or even FP1 in Melbourne.
Then again pessimistic side says 'it's Renault'.
Lets hope chassis has made significant ground. To be honest the top 3 have made significant visible improvements so still a long shot but lets hope a strong 4th is attainable and a real closing of the gap to them.

Wow Mercedes style nose and a totally new front wing!
Some radical changes there
Posted 17 February 2020 - 12:18
Weren't they supposed to have a testing livery with the actual one waiting until Melbourne?
Posted 17 February 2020 - 12:18
A very different S duct opening on top of the nose it seems. Looks like it lets air out to the sides.
Very high positioning of the lower front suspension arms.

Front suspension seems to be also new (or just the angle plays with my eyes).

I think it's those ear like winglets some teams now have? Or maybe is low resolution tricking my eyes.

That was my view also. Airflow channel towards bargeboard area seems to be very-very clean.

He still built it or was there when it was being made. And its still based on RS19. Hope is for suckers

Why would they bother with renders when they have the actual car to take pictures of?
Posted 17 February 2020 - 14:11
Hope we actually get higher res pictures and full car. But given what I see from what we got doesnt look good or at least doesnt give me optimism. Lucky for us 2021 is around the corner.

He was removed from the 2020 project during summer time. If the bases are more or less the same, still the team without Chester had months to design and implement changes. Let's see.

I'm sure the team will not release official high-res pictures until Wednesday. Only leaked spy shots will be available until that.

About 2021 by AMuS:
"The technical regulations for 2021 are still being refined. At the last meeting of the technical chiefs, it was agreed to finally freeze the rules in March. Most of the criticism came from Renault. The French wanted clarity. Scene experts believe that Renault is already ahead of the rest with the development of the 2021er car. The factory racing team wanted to concentrate fully on 2021 as early as possible in order to finally make the step towards top teams."

Noone said (including Renault and other PU manufacturers) concrete numbers, tenths about PU gains. But yeah, the well informed Mc fans knows everything.
Anyway Mc is out next year, I'm not sure if they get all the information, latest hw and sw updates. Renault will control this to protect their IP as much as they can.
I give you (maybe not about PU gains, but certainly rather specific numbers about what he perceives to be the PU picking order)...
“We are in a close battle with Mercedes and Ferrari in engine performance,” was Taffin’s assessment.
“Mercedes is a bit behind us, Ferrari a bit ahead. Honda is one step behind.
“But today we are no longer talking about differences of 50 kilowatts.
“With Ferrari, Mercedes and us there is between five and ten kilowatts.
“At Honda it’s maybe 15 or 20 kilowatts behind.”

That was last season, I do not think any of the manufacturers has said anything about the engines, except the RB guys praising Honda.

Front wing seems to be a rework of 2019m, nose a bit narrower, which does not mean bad, it just is more evolution than revolution, which is perhaps better.
