The words of the great Spike Milligna spring to mind here. In our current situation, 'what are we going to do now?'

Well, you have to turn the situation to your own advantage, so during this self isolation period I'm going to be scanning a ton of 35mm negatives that have never seen the light of day before, I'm starting with the 1986 British Grand Prix at Brands Hatch, see pics. Yes, I have enough negatives to keep me occupied for at least a couple of months.

What is everyone else going to be getting up to?

I suppose I might start working my way through the TNF Archive. Just a shame so many photos on old postings have gone.

What equipment are you using to scan? (Spike Milligna  the well-known typing error. I see what you did there.)

I'm using a Hewlett Packard Scanjet G4010 scanner, it seems to do an adequate job, I used it for all the scans for the images in my book, for starters....

Lots of people who posted those photos are still active...

Why not let them know the photos which are missing? They might (I know I do) have the photos still available and be able to use Postimage to put them back.

I thought regular exercise, but yesterday I went for a walk in the woods, tripped over a tree-root and pulled my shoulder, skinned my knees and knuckles and generally made a mess of myself.  Today I walked carefully round the houses instead!

Here on the forum, I recommend TNFers visit the Racing Comments thread 'Count Up until the 2020 Lights come ON!'.  It already contains some wonderful pictures from the golden years and some very interesting stories.  It really belongs here on TNF!

Screw up your courage and go on over to the Dark Side and maybe even contribute some gems of historical wisdom and add to the youngsters' knowledge.  You know you want to...

Much of my early period of motor sports interest seemed to be spent watching the Lotus 72 between 1971-1975. As I've had to cancel holidays, I've used some of the money I've 'saved' to splurge on a nice mini-library of Pete Lyons' 72 book, Michael Oliver's 'Lotus 72 - Formula 1 Icon', Tipler's 'Black & Gold' and Ludvigsen's 'Colin Chapman - Inside The Innovator'. I've also been up in the loft to find the old race programmes I've saved from those races, and overall - I'm looking forward to settling down to some in-depth reading.

Oh - and I'll be re-running gary C's Lotus 72 DVD as well.

I have ventured into the spare garage, found an eight foot length of 2x2 timber bought for a DiY project I coudn't be bothered to start, and cut out a 28mm diameter piece with a hole saw. This will eventually be filed, sanded and whittled into four tyres for my 1/32nd scale 1908 Clement Bayard. Its ancient rubber tyres have dried, shrivelled, and distorted - rather like its owner.

I've just finished reading Valerie Pirie's "Ciao Stirling".  Richard Jenkins's Richie Ginther book arrived yesterday.  After that it will be a case of re-reading the rest of my library - the only problem is where to start.  Then there are various model cars that need improvement, such as painting the interiors.
But, I suspect that "She who must be obeyed" may have other plans.

Top of my reading list is Alan Henry's book on Mad Ronald, I seem to remember a library in Wembley got me copy when it came out, got my copy from Haynes Motor Museum who had a stall of second hand books at one of their Breakfast meetings just before Christmas   ;)

Lots of motor racing history projects that I've had on the back burner...including many more negatives to scan...that is after I've cleaned the gutters, cut the grass, roto tilled the garden....and had my nap....

Already started scanning in the old Information Sheets I picked up in the 70s and 80s - two-thirds of the way through the first of three volumes.

Just off to do some basic shopping & get in my medication.

And of course, you can always relax with a coffee/scotch and listen to my podcasts; mechanicsgallon.blogspot.com

And after you've done that most enjoyable exercise. read RIchard Jenkins' Ginther book , as recommended above,Jon Saltinstall's  Lauda book and then you can read DRIVEN by ,,,,err me . .

Shameless plugging of TNFers  apart, I'm reading the new  Richard Seaman book - an excellent read which has also reawakened my inner class warrior ...

I'll be frank though  , in these beastly times  , reading can be hard work if it's one of the few shows in town. I have listened to a  lot of podcasts this year, and apart from Gary's series I do recommend Tom Clarkson's Beyond the Grid series , Yes , they have ads , Tom is not the toughest inquisitor but there is some real gold in the scores of shows he's done . And it isn't just this  week's F1 star (although it is strictly F1 ) , with interviewees as far back as Tony Brooks. There are very few  I haven't enjoyed  but highlights were Mario  Andretti(fascinating insights into his early days, and why Michael failed at McLaren ) ,Takuma Sato (no F1 wins but an extraordinary story from a lovely man ), James Allison (for a non techie like me , an unexpected delight) , Alan Jones (very AJ ) , Emerson F (very emotional ) and  many more , Typically they last 60- 90 minutes and they are helping to keep me sane . My favourite of all , by the way,  was  Eddie Jordan . Far from the circus clown we see on TV , but razor sharp , very funny and hugely entertaining.

Also highly recommend the Dinner With Racers podcast. If you can get used to the somewhat unique style and format, there are some fantastic interviews with the likes of Mario Andretti, Bobby Unser, Rick Mears, Tommy Byrne, Derek Bell, David Hobbs, Paul Tracy, Brian Redman etc etc

The variation on this, which I confess to having used in many business meetings, is: 'In the words of the great Ramsay MacDonald to his coalition Cabinet: "Well bugger me, what do we do now?"'

Working from home, with intermittent internet, but received yesterday the Elfin book (four and a half months after I paid for it...). Still in its cellophane, but is and looks so satisfyingly BIG. :)

I have heard that phrase attributed to Edward VIII, addressed to Wallis Simpson, after his abdication.

I totally wore myself out today completing the moving of all my automotive stuff from one shed to another...

Literally tons of engines, gearboxes, rear ends, brakes radiators, even a few panels and one body shell, not to mention broken down sections of all of the above. But the worst bit?

Sweeping seven years of dust out of the old shed!

My knee hates me tonight, I'm back to working on the Warwick Farm book tomorrow.

Rega... do you have the Aussie F5000 book or the Tasman book?

Both, purchased when I was in Oz last year, but the book I was referring to above is the new, David Dowsey's book, "foreword by Vern Schuppan AM" (not shown below):

I also have to work from home - and it seems to take longer even when I save time otherwise spent on transportation. Work-related e-mail traffic seems to have exploded!

However, I just may begin on my first cutaway drawing in no less than 15 years! I'm sure I'm very rusty (not that I was very much in tune before..) - or I may continue on my eternal cardboard model project(s). Not that I really expect to ever finish them...

I also have to order Gary's Lotus 72 DVDs, methinks!

Looks like I'm at school. LOL. Haven't read it yet, Ray, sorry. I can tell you I found your book new on Ebay Australia for 25 pounds, the Tasman one new at less than 30 and Nye's Brabham at 16 pounds like new. Not bad. The others at Dymocks Rundle Mall.

Of those books above I have read Moffat's cover to cover and liked it a lot, plus parts of Laver's, I supported John Newcombe and there were several fine players at the time - Rosewall, Goolagong, John Alexander (who seemed to play great only against Panatta and Barazzutti, especially in Davis Cup).

Autosprint followed the single-seater (and touring car) Australian scene with article and results of each race plus usually an end of season feature with colour photos. Alfie Costanzo, Kevin Bartlett, McRae, Moffat, exotic names with their exotic cars, in particular the Elfin with Ansett sponsorship (usually with Schuppan's gold helmet inside), found it all very peculiar and interesting from afar and never had opportunity to look at all that in more detail and coming to Oz last year and particularly reading Moffat's book early on whetted the appetite. The Lola T332 has always been one my all-time favourites. When I was down under last year I discovered Elfin was initially based in Adelaide and I know where.

I have just been out to the park for my state approved daily exercise ration: a couple of brisk laps of the old race circuit. There was a sprinkling of other folks out too - all behaving fairly sensibly - but the TNFer in me wanted to Black Flag those who were walking the circuit in the wrong direction…

I should be on my way to Enschede to celebrate the 75th anniversary of their liberation on April 1st 1945. This was to include an Eredivisie Premier League match between Twente and Fortuna Sittard where the players were to wear the names of the 21 allied soldiers who died on April 1st. These included my Uncle Horace Bradbury, hence the invite from the town.  All postponed and moved to May 4th/5th, the dates of the end of the War in Europe. En route I would have taken in F1's return to Zandvoort on May 1st, a race I last attended in 1979 (and watched from Tarzan!). Bugger.

Some of these chaps clearly also needed a good talking to about separation, back in 1969, but at least they were going in the right direction.
