Albon "left a gap" because he was taking the normal racing line. Hamilton locked up, and hit him. It's a penalty for Hamilton, but a self-induced podium lost for Albon.
Finally someone got it.

“If you no longer go for a gap which exists you are no longer a racing driver”
Someone said that once.
With this quote, are you implying Hamilton deliberately had Albon off?
Posted 17 November 2019 - 19:12
I'll wait for more than one perspective before comitting to Hamilton being at fault entirely or not, and whether this warrants a penalty. But looking forward to Sainz getting his trophy on the ****ing plane
Posted 17 November 2019 - 19:12
Hamilton will and should get a penalty, he clumsily took another driver out. I think it’s a great shame Sainz doesn’t get to stand on the podium because he’s been waiting so long for one and will clearly get credited with it.

This is my initial feeling as well. But as F1TV shuts down the coverage early, I have to wait for someone to provide SkySports post-race footage before actually being able to watch it closely.
Albon messed up by letting Hamilton have the chance, but Hamilton didn't take the chance, but took Albon instead.

Lewis is to blame for this. Should be penalized.

Lets see the video again. Most only watched 3 seconds of it. I'd like to see the video from Lewis cam view.
Posted 17 November 2019 - 19:17
Watching the move again Hamilton was on the curb on the inside so he didn't run into Albion, the question is whether he should have gone for it or not.

I think Albon was a little bit naive there, he left the door open, drivers with more experience would know that whilst his line was the more typical racing line, it is possible to take a different line as well.

Posted 17 November 2019 - 19:22
I'd say Albon left the door open, but it was still an unnecessary, borderline careless move. So I'd understand if Lewis gets penalised.
easy to say in hindsight. He wanted to go after Max
Posted 17 November 2019 - 19:24
Hamilton would've stormed pass with DRS. It was a desperate move. Feel for Alex.

Yeah, I don’t think I’ve ever seen an incident where both drivers are kind of going ‘I could have done better there’
Posted 17 November 2019 - 19:26
Hamilton's fault, he admitted it and it's clear to see except for the Stewards cowards.
Posted 17 November 2019 - 19:26
Both drivers kinda taking responsibility, not heard that in a while
Posted 17 November 2019 - 19:27
Posted 17 November 2019 - 19:27
Is it even under investigation? Sainz getting the podium 3 hours later would be wrong
Posted 17 November 2019 - 19:27
With the way Lewis is apologising and the way Albon is so laid back, this could be the most British thing ever in the stewards room.
I must apologise for you standing on my foot old chap
Posted 17 November 2019 - 19:27
Obvious mistake besides Lewis took all the blame (and rightfully),i think there is no issue here.
Imho it should be a penalty

true definition of a racing incident...
Posted 17 November 2019 - 19:27
There was no DRS..

D Hill and PDR both saying racing incident for what it's worth
Yea, yea, if that was Kvyat, he would receive 10sec + 2penalty points. At least. And crucified in media
Waiting to see what stewards will decide ...

Albion sharing some of the blame aswell.
Racing incident.

Perhaps the stupidest quote in motorsport history from someone that couldn't handle losing.

Albon knows that he's got bigger problems if he cannot put himself into a podium position ever again....So this loss is quite small in the grand scheme.

I don't think Ayrton meant a driver should throw all judgement out of the window with that statement.

Too many angles to get a clear picture from the current replays. It's a curved braking zone.
In the moment, I though Albon was actually letting Lewis past because he was almost anti-defending.
EDIT: Having seen the onboard. If Lewis get's a penalty, it won't be undeserved. I still think Albon should have covered it .

Looks like Hamilton is too far away to make the move IMO
Though, funny that both admit fault to some extent lol

Just saw the replay. 100% on Lewis. Overtake wasn't on. FIA stole Sainz first podium.
I think Albon is part of the conspiracy against Sainz. He seemed to want to help the cover up and wrongly admitted part of the blame!

Same, as typically if you're defending that corner you take the line that Lewis took and hope the other guy doesn't have enough grip to hold it round the outside...
Posted 17 November 2019 - 19:33
“I had some gap to Lewis and I thought ‘okay, we’re okay where we are’ and I felt like ‘I’ll go in a little bit hot just cover him so he doesn’t get any ideas.’ And of course you SEE It, you see the crossing but once you dive there’s a blind spot and you don’t know how far alongside you he is... I thought okay he’s far back enough, yeah I’ll give him some space but.. I did expect* it..”
*he may have said ‘didn’t expect’, I couldn’t tell.

If Hamilton was that much quicker, why not wait until the main straight to get him? Boggles the mind

Did he not utter that statement while defending Japan 90?

It looks far initially but I think by the time both reach the apex both cars are under control and could have gone side by side... I think its just a racing incident overall, no real blame
