Where to sell F1 programmes 1997-1998 plus

When I worked for FOM I used to attend every race and collected programmes for them all, sometimes including media packs which were only available at the circuit and to the media only. I have the 1997 and 1998 seasons complete with some bits & pieces from 1999, 2000 and 2002. I want to sell them all now, I want to sell the complete sets as sets, I'm into breaking them up. Was wondering where the best place would be to sell them, I'm thinking an auction house.....

Personally Gary I would use eBay, using a seven to ten day auction listing (rather than 'Buy it Now'). Try a couple, setting quite a high starting price, to test the water. You can always bring the price down if they don't sell.

What you have sounds interesting and, if you're a reasonably regular eBay user, you can make use of an 'advanced' facility to see if any similar items have sold in the last few months, and what price they made. If you're not an ebay regular, and are interested in finding out, let me have a bit more detail and I'll do the search for you.

An auction house might be simpler in some ways ( no eBay listings, postage and packing etc) but I'd be very surprised if you make much that way.

Edit.  Another option might be to give someone like Pooks of Rothley a ring and just see what they would give you for the whole lot. They trade directly with customers, and on eBay as 'Motoring Magpie'. You could then decide whether the simplicity of one sale, at trade price, is more appealing that doing things yourself on eBay or wherever.

Another possibility would be Catawiki, an auction house online. They will charge you 12% I believe, but you can establish a reserve price and define yourself how much you charge for P&P. I never sold anything there but I bought a lot of programmes, usually coming from UK, so the market exists.

Ah, OK Gary, I misunderstood your original post. Did you mean to write 'I'm into breaking them up'? Or was that meant to be 'I'm NOT into breaking them up'?!

Either way, someone like Pooks or Simon (Lewis Transport Books) could give you a 'trade' price, with which you can calculate what you would need to make at auction, after fees etc., to make it worthwhile.
