Is this the last in-season test or the first pre-season test

It's the last in-season test, as teams can not run updates or try out things on their cars, which have to be the same as they raced them in Abu Dhabi.

They'll only test tyres, not cars.

Thought it would be good to keep the 2019 compound because at one point in the season things were beginning to look more competitive. However, after the last race, I think a tyre change is a better hope for no Mercedes domination again in 2020. It could go either way, but at this point of desperation, random is better...

Before we get too worried about the raw pace, can someone remind me of the intent of the changes was for the new tires?  Am I right that the goal is a wider working range?  I hope that would mean we don't have teams that are unable to "switch the tires on" some weekends or even all year, and we don't have certain compounds that no one can use properly all weekend because they had to tailor the setup so much to make a different compound switch on properly.  I would rather have the slower tires if we can fix these kind of things

However, as the sole 2019 regular speaking to media after the opening day of running, GPDA director Grosjean indicated that his opinion “stayed in the same line” as after Austin.

Asked which spec he would prefer to race next year, he said: “I don’t know. It’s too early to say. But it shouldn’t really be a question, should it?

“That’s where we are. If you ask me right now, I don’t know. Depending on the track I would tell you one or the other. [But] this is not going to happen.

“The degradation on some compounds was better. Being able to run lower pressures also helps you. So those are the positives. But it’s not what you would dream of.”

As long as they are not based on the tyres that worked better for Mercedes than others, anything is an evolution.

Well, they managed to turn things around after struggling with the tyres massively in early 2017 for instance, without any changes. It's definitely possible if you have the resources.

Christian Menath from Motorsport-Magazin (Germany) said that many believe that Pirelli mandated lower tyre pressures for the 2020 tyres than the 2019 tyres in order to lure teams into deciding for the 2020 tyre.

Only Grosjean and Ocon talked, Grosjean was critical; Ocon avoided the tyre topic entirely.

So he asked engineers and they say that the tyres have similar issues as the 2019 tyres (overheating, etc.), but that they are on top of it much slower (some say up to a second), though he thinks that it's maybe down to them having more experience with the 2019 tyres, so that they could be naturally biased.

He thinks that the lack of media sessions is down to political reasons: If a driver says that the tyre is good and then the team discovers that the tyre isnt to the teams liking it would look odd if they vote against it.

They have a mix of 19/20 tyres but this also tells us what tyres they set the fastest time on

Cars were designed and optimised for the 19 tyres though.

don't get why Nissany is wasting money on testing an F1 car when he will never race in one (well probably goes for Gelael too)

I don;'t think Romain's comments must be taken seriously. I mean this dude whines at every damn thing. 

What were the 2020 tyres designed and optimised for? A double decker bus?
