Apart from the WTCR finale this weekend, the motorsport off-season sees this forum die down a little.

But to keep it going a bit, lets discuss and see what out favourite races and moments from this decade (that's 2010-2019 but I probably just insulted your intelligence).

It can be any series, from the old F1 to GTs and touring cars, to other single seaters and MotoGP and rallying.

Lets celebrate this motorsport decade.

This is actually so hard to think about, especially if you watch more than 2 or 3 motorsport series. There have been so many incredible moments.

I'll give my thoughts at some point once the brain starts working.  :D

For me one of the best was Kimi finally winning a race again in Ferrari. So usa 2018. Also Rosberg winning the title was pretty great too for me :)

Otherwise some rallystuff, like Irc was great. Proper oldskool rally stuff with lots of action and competition.

One of the highlights for me has to be the brief golden age of LMP1 when Audi, Porsche, and Toyota were all running factory squads. Those machines were incredible pieces of technology, the racing was fairly close, and the supporting classes had plenty of factory entries and variety as well.

Phillip Island 2015. The most incredible and impactful MotoGP race of the decade.

I can't decide between Max Verstappen winning his first race for RedBull, Dan Wheldon leading only the last 200 yards at Indy in 2011 or Alexander Rossi winning the 2016 500 `on fumes`. (the Indy options selected because I was in the grandstands)

Not a best moment but one of the most not to believe moments ever in the decade is Toyota losing the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2016 in the last 5 minutes of the race. I was/am a Porsche fan but this was no victory for them to feel proud of or celebrate very enthusiastic.

That sprint race win for Leclerc in 2017. Bit of a strange one but I remember watching F2 every so often back then but I remember being amazed by what he did, and I’m not even a Leclerc fan. Maybe not the best moment but something that has just stuck with me

The sodden 2015 Petit Le Mans and the perfect combination of Porsche, Michelin deep-cut wets and Nick Tandy taking the race overall from the noses of the DPs in a GTLM car.

Katsumasa Chiyo in the GT-R at the Bathurst 12 Hour in 2015 going from 4th to 1st on the last SC restart.

LMP1 hybrid meltdown at Le Mans in 2017 nearly handing overall victory to the Jackie Chan/Jota LMP2 Oreca.

Back at Bathurst, Scotty McLaughlin's TWO otherworldly pole laps (discounting the fact that the engine on the second one was a paper-thin clearance out of tolerances).

Oh, and if we're going for the full decade, what else could be the moment of the decade but the titanic battle that was Le Mans in 2011? After two monstrous crashes, a lone Audi against 4 Peugeots and the tightest racing finish at La Sarthe in decades. 13.854 seconds after 24 hours.

I could list loads of moments from the decade, but if I had to pick just a singular highlight, it would be this race. My palms are still sweating.

EDIT:

The sodden 2015 Petit Le Mans and the perfect combination of Porsche, Michelin deep-cut wets and Nick Tandy taking the race overall from the noses of the DPs in a GTLM car.

I worked that race, and it was absolutely miserable. Visibility sucked and the drainage around the track failing was the nail in the coffin... there was mud overflowing all over the Turn 2/3/4 area where I worked. The finish more than made up for it, though.

And while I'm talking finishes, I'm going to put this in here:

Land Motorsport's Nurburgring 24h victory in 2017 with the Audi. Leading for most of the race, dropping to 3rd with 2 hours to go due to an electrical reset, final pitstop with 20 minutes to go on the same lap as their rivals, refuelling botched badly which lost them about 30 seconds. Crucially, it was in those 30 seconds that the heavens opened, so they swapped to wets while their rivals ahead had to stick to slicks for a full 26km lap. Two disasters that led them into a golden decision which won them back the race.

EDIT: And the 2016 race being halted for 2 hours after the first few laps because of a hailstorm.

What has stuck with me the most, is something only Muricans do best: Honor the fallen.
The tribute lap done by the remaining cars after Wheldons death still gives me the goosebumps till this day.

That it ever could get that far at all that particular weekend is still the most disgusting moment of the decade, at least for me. (Others wil likely rate Bianchi higher)

This wasn't a perfect storm out of nowhere, this was looking for Tornado Alley in the `right` time of the year

I'm trying to think of anything really big from F1 this decade that will stand out as an all-time classic moment, and all I can think of is Maldonado and Max's first wins in Barcelona.

3 F1 memories stand out to me:

1) Jenson Button going from last to first to win in Canada 2011, including passing Seb on the final lap. I was there, went nuts, best race I've seen in person. Also featured Schumacher running in a podium position until the final couple laps, and a LOT of rain.

2) The first 7 races of 2012 being won by 7 different drivers from 5 different teams. Yea, it was something of an aberration because of tires, but it was fascinating.

3) The "arrival" of Danny Ric at Red Bull in 2014 when he convincingly beat Seb and took 3 victories against a vastly superior Mercedes team. Yea, he ended up getting shaded by Max, but it made me an immediate and ongoing fan.

We should probably have a separate thread honouring the ones we lost in action over the decade. Wheldon, Simoncelli, Allan Simonsen, Sean Edwards, Bianchi, Hubert... the list is long.

So many to choose from, but if there’s one that stands out for me it’s Maldonado winning the Spanish Grand Prix in 2012, and doing it so convincingly too.

I haven't had time to stick with Formula E after them but the first two title deciders have stuck with me. Seb Buemi blasting around the empty track after the FT points after di Grassi's attempt to torpedo him & getting the title. And of course Nelson Piquet jr of all people winning the inaugural one.

Kyle Kaiser and Juncos Racing knocking out Fred and McLaren will stick with me too.

Oh yes. Even as someone who sort of likes Alonso as a driver, the unbridled joy for Juncos and Kaiser at that moment will forever be enshrined in Indy history.

My "Top 3+1", all F1.

1. Kimi's last Ferrari win .... "I guess it's better than finishing second".

2. Rosberg's WDC.

3. Alonso's LeMans victory.

Stroll's podium at Azerbaijan ... hey, I'm Canadian.

Sorry Lewis fans, but Nico Rosberg winning the F1 title in Abu Dhabi despite all Hamilton’s fun and games trying to back him into the pack and driving round like that all race....at the time I found that an immensely satisfying result because quite frankly, I thought Hamilton’s driving was unbecoming and their friendship turned toxic rivalry was painting Nico as the aggressor in the British press despite, you know, not being that simple. So regardless of nationality, regardless of past and future opinions of either driver, I thought that was the right result.

Worth saying that since then, Hamilton has been THE cleanest and best driver in F1 and barely put a foot wrong while Nico has rather gone against his “I want to get away from F1 and raise my family” thing by jetting around to every GP inflicting his opinions on everyone.....but we’re talking ‘in the moment’.

The 2016 WEC season. Will remember that similar to the 1998 BTCC, as a glorious high water mark in a great championship, with strong manufacturer teams fighting through the field, amazing looking cars, great races and an uncertain championship situation. The whole drama of Toyota losing out on the very last lap at Le Mans, the controversy of the #18 Porsche crew lucking into two wins early on then driving around for points the rest of the season, the final year of Mark Webber, the first year of the Ford GT and all the Indycar drivers like Dixon, Bourdais etc popping over the form the Le Mans superteam, it was great and that years Audi R18 looked absolutely badass. Loved it all.

The 2017 WRC with the new cars injecting life into a series that was, for me anyway, dying on its arse with uninteresting cars, one-team domination, politics and cutbacks. Three manufacturers throwing their weight into it with great looking cars, and an absolutely heroic privateer effort from Ford....the season opening Monte Carlo Rally (marred thought it sadly was) so exciting, so interesting, setting the tone for a great, great three years of top class rallying only now sadly under threat by Citroen's exit.

The 2015 MotoGP title race between Lorenzo and Rossi was a classic too, with all the finger pointing at the end.

Surely one of the most controversial moments - and one that received a huge amount of discussion - was the Marquez/Rossi Sepang incident. Well, I suppose you can include the build-up and aftermath to that too. 2015 was an extraordinary year for MotoGP. I just wish the title had gone in Rossi's favour...

As far as the most dramatic - the finish to Le Mans in 2016 has to be right up there. I've watched a lot of motorsport over the years, from a lot of different categories, but I've never seen anything quite like this before.

Honourable mention to JR Hildebrand throwing away the Indy 500 on the last corner of the last lap too. I still get a lump in my throat watching this, for knowing what follows. RIP, Lionheart.

I need some help here , can someone with better puter skills  post photos  of two of my top moments of the past decade

One     would would be the 4 wide finish  at Indy in that Indy Lights race,  (2016ish?)

And the shot of Indy cars  coming down the Pocono  straight  SEVEN    wide in 2015 .    Pity that race was ruined by Justin Wilson's crash later on.

I would add the last stage of the Catalunya rally this year where Tanak ended the glory run of fifteen straight WRC titles between the two French Sebastiens. Not because he did it, but because of the way he did it. I mean, he could have taken it easy and not clinched it there and then, driven without risking everything going for the super special stage points, knowing it would have been extremely unlikely if not bottom line impossible for Neuville to catch him at the last event in Australia anyway. But Ott decided against playing it safe, went at it balls deep instead.

Tanak not only bossed the SS and took the 5pt to confirm his title, but also did it with such a huge margin that he actually also passed Sordo for 2nd on the full standings too which also sufficed at confirming his title. Something which nobody had even speculated with because he'd been so far behind to start the stage, and which came as a surprise even to the Estonian!

I'm going to have a proper think about this but the one I immediately thought of was the 2010 Korean GP.

The lead up was weird with the start being delayed and then opening laps were under the SC before a red flag.

Then when the race got going it was crashes and wheel banging. I remember screaming the house down with delight when Vettel's engine went with 10 or so laps to go

It's not spectacular moment but Kimis "Leave me alone" could not have happened in better way.

Buttons win in Canada sounds like it's taken from benched script of Driven 2.

There have been spectacular moments but I can't remember them.

How about the whole Mid Ohio 2018 Indy race? No yellows and possibly the most action packed Indy race I ever remember. Rossi dominated but I still finished the day with the certainty I had seen one of the best races in a very long time.

I remember being a kid and waking up in the morning to a red flag and my dad asleep on the sofa (obviously bored of waiting for the race)😂. Was even more excited when Webber binned it personally. Brilliant race

Great idea for a thread - but how on Earth is one to answer the question? I'm going to be parochial, and pick two races from my local track (Brands Hatch) on the basis "I woz there". Was also able to rewatch them on TV. There may have been more significant events in the decade, but for quality racing on a fabulous circuit...

One from early in the decade. Local Sarf London lad Tommy Hill, on what he called his Yammerar, took the 2011 British Superbike championship on the last lap of the last round, beating the brilliant Californian John Hopkins by a gnat's whisker.

And now for something completely different from 2019. I have a huge irrational bias in favour of Formula 3 and other small single seaters, so nothing was going to stop me attending the final round of the W Series. Breathtaking racing, with Alice Powell, rescued from retirement by the series, fighting through and showing the class she'd demonstrated years earlier in club-level F3. While Powell was winning, things were tense for championship leader Jamie Chadwick and her challenger, Beitske Visser.

In terms of racing is was nothing to write home about: The crowd reaction to Tonys Kanaan's win at the 2013 Indy 500 was my single stand out moment in an otherwise pretty dull decade.

This. One of the last memories of him, with the Valencia podium.
