Youtube imbedding

Always been a nightmare, especially on mobile.

The bbcode is supposed to be videoid, but it doesn't work.

To use your example - e-f-_Q0o598 (this is in youtube tags but nothing happens)

The only reliable way I've found is to simply post the full URL. You have to be careful with YouTube URLs because they have all sorts of addendums. Make sure to delete the & icon and everything that comes after it so you just have the basic URL.

To find the full URL you will probably need to open the video in a web browser, force desktop mode to obtain the proper link, and then copy and paste to the forum. The shortened URLs do not work.

In addition, if you edit your post, it tends to unembed the video. I've noticed this a lot on mobile. To make sure this doesn't happen you have edit your post in desktop mode, too. Sometimes you have to open the "full version" of the forum and also tell your mobile browser to use desktop mode. It's really finicky.

Literally the only way I find it works is to copy the full URL, go to where I want to make my post, turn off the little light switch (first icon in the top row of the coding icons above the posting box), paste the URL, then turn the switch back on. It should then be embedded.

My way

• Open youtube in a browser
• Start the video
• Copy full URL from the browser line - not by selecting via a click from the video
• Post the URL in my post and it is embedded

Everything happens on a Windows 10 installation on a Laptop, using Opera.

Select the URL after pasting and click on the broken chain link icon. 

Just copy the link and put it in the text editor and that's it.

FNLN, I think you're copy and pasting the wrong thing. Don't copy from the share button on Youtube, copy the address in the task bar. If you're copying on a mobile, you will see m. at the start of the address, remove the m. Paste it directly into the post box, don't use any BB codes. That code you've posted is what comes up in the youtube share facility

What you need to be pasting looks like this FNLN, Don't use any code, paste directly into text box.  In fact, if you type what you see in my screengrab, into the text box, you will see that the video embeds.

As this thread is demonstrating there is more than one way to embed a you tube link.

For example I used Myrvold's link and using Chrome, right clicked on my mouse and pasted it as plain text.

Don't right-click on the video. Just copy/paste the address from the address bar of your browser.

either I'm a dumbass (not impossible), or this should be a lot easier.

Your embeds didn't work because they were hyperlinks. Perhaps your laptop is recognising them as URLs and making them hyperlinks. I went into your post to edit them. All I did was click the "unlink" button (looks like a broken chain) and they worked.

I'm using a Macbook and use a browser called Brave (used to use Opera), and there's not much I can't figure out, but this one has stumped me for donkey's ages. Obviously it's easy, but I am missing something hiding in plain sight.

Nah... not working here either.

As more folk use phones etc these days, it’s a shame the direct links from YT don’t work... my phone seems to Chuck me off the browser version and into the app... hence the use of the shorter links.
