Domenicali is supposed to replace Chase Carey before the start of the next season.

If you have shares in F1, sell them now.

I'm only okay with this if he grows Chase's moustache and rocks Bernie's haircut.

No, seriously, I understand we see very little of the actual jobs of these guys, he could be a genius behind closed doors, but all we know is he wasn't much successful at Ferrari. So this sounds a bit weird?

Seriously another ex Ferrari person in a leading role.

I really hope Toto Wolff replaces Jean Todt as FIA boss when his time is up.

He inherited an incredible structure inside Ferrari and managed to screw it up in a couple of years. Not the best choice IMO.

This and “Rory Byrne is working on next year’s Ferrari”. Those two sentences cost me about 10 years of life.

So much negativity.

I'd say why not. Stefano seems like a good dude. Perhaps the most down to earth leader Ferrari has ever had. And he understands racing better than Carey ever will.

They fought for 2 titles to the last race.

Haven't done that since he left.

It wasn't him.

Luca di Montezemolo lost the plot and Sergio Marchionne decided to write his own.

I always felt like he was one of the good guys, although I am a dyed-in-the-wool McLaren fan. So I remain optimistic until proven wrong.

Jean Todt was still at Ferrari in 2007. And it was Domenicalli inhability to lead a team that made them lose the title in 2008, when Kimi was leading championship 5 races in, with Massa in 2nd. and then came ultra-competitive 2009 car. And ended with the super-fast 2014 one.

I'm not sure what relevance Kimi leading after 5 races has, Massa fought for the title, only losing by 1 point. Domenicali also managed to get Alonso into the team, which really sealed their competitiveness. Something they haven't really recovered from losing.

You do know that he was working with ferrari way before he was appointed as TP ( since 1992 ) ? No you dont.

Ross Brown...

Remember gang running a race team isn’t like running a commercial rights racing company.  Functionally FOM is as much a media company and production house as it is promotion and marketing.  That’s why Carey was brought in.  He was the media business guy.  Bratches was the media operations guy.  The two year debacle of F1 TV sealed his fate.  If Domenicalli doesn’t work out there’s a guy in Indianapolis that has race promotion experience.  His family sold their business earlier this year so he might be looking for a gig.  His sisters don’t work for Liberty so they couldn’t fire him this time.

Mostly due to RB reliability and mistakes in 2010, and Alonso’s monster of a season in 2012.
They were almost always third fastest team pace wise.

Since his Ferrari days, Stefano Domenicali spent time working for the FIA on motorsport, and spent time at Audi before heading to his current position as Chief Executive of Lamborghini. He's got a lot more experience than just Ferrari team principal. I quite liked him personally, for what it was worth.

When Liberty first came in they put in place a trifecta with two media men and a Formula One guy. Now we've got the Formula One guy and another Formula One guy, with a sidestep into motoring. Interesting change of approach.

Personally I wouldn't hire anyone from Ferarri to run a go kart team let alone F1. The culture seems too hierarchical, bureaucratic, old school. You need someone with an open mindset that will bring a flat management style and open the door to new ideas. Someone like Toto

Stefano always struck me as a somewhat of a weak leader. I remember in 2011 during that short blown diffuser ban that he was pushing for compromise for the interest of sport bla bla. He might have been right in that regard, but when you are running a team, you push for policies that are in the interest of your own team.

Agreed completely. But it was his management that got Alonso into the team and as a team they really gelled and got the maximum from each other.

I remember the "This is the most beautiful" message after Alonso's win at Malaysia 2012.

Yeah, I definitely give him credit for hiring Alonso. And race operations were decent. However, they were just unable to build a properly fast car.

So what? It seems that according to you the only responsible in a team for success is the TP. Wel no. Far from that. He s been appointed in key roles during the Schumacher title seasons.

As long as the man will be impartial, he might actually do a good job, as he knows the drill inside out. Plus, now would be the time to throw the book at the teams and really do things for the good of the sport.

👋mr Domenicali, if you’re reading this, welcome onboard and please put in a good word to get rid of skyscraper front wings for us. 2 plates should look nice enough on any car. Pretty please with a cherry on top?

Meh. He's a nice guy and it showed during his time as the Ferrari TP but from what I've read he's done very well as the Lambo CEO.

Liberty needs a boss who knows F1, someone the teams know, now they've got one.

Who else was in the frame?

Flavio Briatore
Vijay Mallya
Eddie Jordan
Ron Dennis
Maurizio Arrivabene
Claire Williams
Martin Whitmarsh
Christian Horner
Helmut Marko
Cyril Abiteboul

Best of luck if it had been any of them.

BTW - the EJiot didn't predict this one did he!!

...and I'm sure, the first thing Flavio would've taken care of is to bring back grid girls!  :rotfl:

Care to explain?  The teams don't hold the purse strings, don't own the tracks or set the rules,  So where is their power?

Benson appears to like him!

Domenicali is a highly respected and well-liked figure in F1, a charismatic and genial character with a strong track record in management.

He is the last team principal under whom Ferrari won a world title - the constructors’ championship in 2008.

He resigned in 2014 after refusing to comply with then-president Luca di Montezemolo’s wish for him to sack Ferrari's engine head after the team badly underestimated the requirements of the new turbo-hybrid engine regulations.

I often wonder what makes him want in.
