Me:

Robert Wickens, because I want to learn where he takes all this strength from. (Yeah, his amazing wife of course, but still...)

Dario Franchitti, because he seems to be an all around great fellow. And he knew Greg Moore. And because he's a fan of Jim Clark.  But most of all because he is Dario effing Franchitti.

Damon Hill, because life always meant more than motor racing for him.

A driver I definitely wouldn't have a beer with:

Kimi. I would end up comatose and wouldn't remember sh*t. Totally not worth it.  :rotfl:

Why only former?

I don't drink alcohol so I'd like to drink can of red bull with Alonso, Max, Kimi, Ricciardo, Hamilton

Of former Jean Todt (to teach him something), Toto Wolff, Binotto (to ask him something about engine)

Seconded. I'd love to just sit down and have a chat with him over a pint or two, though racing would have to be on the agenda, at least in part.

For me it would be Romain Grosjean, Nico Rosberg (although I'd prefer a beachside coffee house for these two) and Jacques Villeneuve in a pub in Kitzbuhel, Austria after a day of skiing.

Mark Donohue  (again- last spoke with him at Pocono Porsche Parade in 1974),   Seppi Siffert,  of today's  drivers,  Seb Vettel...  and yes, Dario  for love of motor racing history.

Don't drink either, so guess it would be Red Bull (?) , but not with Seb :)

All likeable characters with interesting stories to tell.

Damon, Jenson and DC would be my top choices.

Vettel of the current lot. Stories about Ferrari and I’ve always liked the way his personality comes through in interviews, I suspect he has a light hearted mischievous sense of humour.

Well Im going to share because I think this is the funniest dream I ever had.

<Am I not a Kimi fan>

Dream starts with me walking to a bar, where I see Kimi with a flock of women.

Im at the bar getting a drink, and it turns out to be the same as Kimi's he yells "Well looks like you know what you are doing!" so I walk over and say hello.

Dream cuts to party at my house with various people from the bar all drinking listening to music etc.

Dream cuts to the next morning, people passed out all over the house, me hung over as all get out, but for some reason dead set on mowing the lawn.

I fire up the lawn mower to get going at which point Kimi comes out of the garage pushed me away from the lawn mower and mumbles "Leave me alone I know what Im doing".

Seriously not kidding I had this dream.

So I'd drink with Kimi just to see if this happens =)

Prost has always been my hero, so definitely him. My other absolute no brainer choice would be Keke. That man has so many stories to tell.

Out from the current crop, it would be Vettel, hands down. He seems to be the most intelligent and thinking one. Also, he seems to be the most "old school one" in many ways. It has long been a pet peeve of mine that modern drivers have one-size-fits-all personalities, interests and hobbies.

Back in the old days, you had people like Reutemann, who was always interested in politics. You had Cevert or de Angelis, who were classically trained piano players. Jackie Stewart was an excellent skeet shooter (almost made it to the Olympics!), Hunt was into breeding budgerigars, Mansell is a trained aerospace engineer, etc. So many aspects, so many interesting stories, interests, hobbies, backgrounds.

But nowadays, the drivers' personalities are seemingly made from the same mould. Note that this doesn't mean they are exactly the same. But how many would say that they are interested in being classically trained as a pianist? How many are avid readers of literature? How many pursue interests like breeding birds or spending time studying engineering?

Ask any of them what their interests are, and you basically have shallow, superficial and very similar answers. Hanging out at parties (surprising!), spending time on social media (wow, original - every teenager does that). They like scuba diving (which rich person doesn't?), they like sushi (how unique), and they don't really seem to be interested or knowledgeable in anything that requires time, attention or devotion. I'm not sure what the reason for this is, but it might be a generation thing. It's not that they need to be college-educated intellectuals. But at least some variety in their interests or hobbies or pursuits or pastime activities would be nice to see.

Anyway, the point is: Vettel seems to be the only one who is totally different. He is not active on social media; he doesn't have an entourage or a Twitch account; he likes reading about F1 history, he is interested in seemingly unusual things for an F1 driver like going to the theatre to watch a Little Britain show. I can't name any other driver who has good general knowledge about F1 history or who would go to the theatre in their free time.

I was definitely thinking Webber, but if we're including former drivers then I guess I'd pick Vettel.

Note: this beer meeting is definitely not with both of them at the same time. That would get awkward.

Probably Damon and Jenson. Seem to be very intelligent and likeable both of them. Something also tells me that Emmo would have some fantastic stories from the 70's to tell.

A couple of "I don't drink alcohol so Red Bull" comments. One of the reasons I don't drink alcohol is taste-related, so that rules out non-alcoholic disgusting drinks too! Next time you're in a pub, try lemonade with lime cordial. You're welcome.

Anyway, Prost was my favourite driver growing up, so him. Damon Hill would be good too. Martin Brundle would be interesting.

Does Vettel count as a former driver?

Edit - I see noikeee already did that joke.

Clearly, the only sensible answer is: "Gerry Marshall and Tony Lanfranchi in the Kentagon bar".

But I probably wouldn't survive the experience.

Thirding Damon Hill. He just always seems so incredibly decent and nice!

And plenty of people did have a chat with him when he took part in Club 100 kart races with Joshua after his retirement from F1. (Must admit I stood next to him but didn't speak, not wanting to waste his time). He certainly is decent, nice - and humorous, as the friend who asked him what he thought of Michael Schumacher found out.

I would not go out of my way to talk to a former driver .... they are great at what they do but they are (generally) very limited people. And the ones that seem somewhat interesting come out with the most dickish statements every so often.

I would want to talk to former team bosses. Much more rounded and balanced people.

There is a guy called Matthew Carter who appears on the Missed Apex podcast from time to time on a series called Diaries of an F1 Boss - or something like that - he was CEO of Lotus for a couple of years ... now, there is an interesting guy. Listen to any of episodes with him on and you will see what I mean.... He gets more relaxed and open as the series goes on and so reveals more and more insider info. The last episode was something else.... just the most crazy info stated in the most matter of fact and casual way. My jaw was on the floor.

Edit - someone like Marc Priestly who was a senior mechanic at Macca in the noughties has way more to say - and more interestingly - than pretty much any driver.

Just my opinion ... not "dissing" the drivers... or the folks who have a different view from me on who is interesting and who is not.

Haven't mentioned James Hunt...he'd be too distracted by any crumpet nearby :drunk:

Back in 2004, I stood behind Damon in a sandwich shop one lunchtime, he was with others so didn't speak to him... ):

For a beer I'd pick a less successful driver, those are often more analytical than the very successful ones. As examples, Stefan Johansson, Alex Wurz, Pedro de la Rosa and Nick Heidfeld have all seemed like personalities I'd enjoy having an intelligent conversation with. Of those currently on the grid, both Sainz and Gio seem like pleasant dudes to spend an evening out with, as would several drivers on the Indycar side.

Then there's the guys I'd just let speak and tell me all their stories - Keke, Emmo, Dario, Mario, A.J. Foyt, Jacky Ickx...
